Disable ThinApp Pop-up

Does anyone know if it is possible to disable the pop-up that appears in the bottom right corner of the screen when starting a ThinApp application? I've been searching through the documentation and the internet and I haven't seen anything on this.

Thinapp and Explorer Shell Context Menues

I'm trying to understand if i am doing something wrong or if it's just the way it is.

I'm practicing packaging application with thinapp, i tried Microsoft Office 2007, Winrar, Acrobat Reader 9, Firefox 3.0.7, Google Chrome and Skype 4.0 with success.

There are some differences in the user experience that i would like to solve, if possible:

1) when i right click on a .zip file i have no menues for unzipping it with Winrar;

2) PDF files are not previewed in Vista, you just get the regular PDF icon on files;

3) is there a way to hide the little popup windows on the bottom right when a thinapp application is fired?

4) when opening a PDF from the web using IE or any other broser you get the choice to save or open it, but it should actually open the file in the browser instead

I realized that these issued might not be because of my mistakes but just the normal behavior of thinapped apps; i am just thinking about all the support requests i will get once i will put this into production just because things are slightly different than a regular full desktop user experience.

Thanks for your support.

MS Office Enterprise 2007 x86 sanbox folder is locked. Help file is not working, as well!!!

Hi,

I'm trying to thinapp office 2007 enterprise with vmware thinapp 5.0.1.1801916 (latest release) on a clean virtual Win XP SP3, OS.

After some cleaning and minor adjustments to the project folder I managed to deploy the virtual app on my real desktop (win 7 ultimate x64).....with some degree of success!!!

However, I observed that I was not able to delete/remove the sandbox folder after all entry point exes were exited or shut down. I managed to find the lingering process in task manager, responsible for the lockdown of the folder. It's  a small system executable "splwow64.exe" that when I end this process manually it allows me to delete the sandbox immediately. This file does not exist natively in win XP x86 and I dont have this issue when I run the portable office on this OS.

I tried to use this vbs script from this blog to kill the lingering process but it didnt work.:

"Function OnFirstParentExit

    Dim objWMIService, objProcess, colProcess

    Dim strComputer, strProcessKill

    strComputer = "."

    strProcessKill = "’splwow64.exe’"

    Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" & "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")

    Set colProcess = objWMIService.ExecQuery ("Select * from Win32_Process Where Name = " & strProcessKill )

    For Each objProcess in colProcess

        objProcess.Terminate()

    Next

End Function"

I get this error on exit:

Source: (null)

Description: (null)

File: (null)

Line 21, Character 4

At:

I 'm eager to know if someone has an opinion on how to cleanly solve this little problem.

Another issue I have found so far with little testing of this package is that I'm not able to have the help file of any of the entry points in the thinapped MS Office to work correctly. Indeed help file doesnt launch at all, when I click the question-mark icon inside the program i receive this warning:

Microsoft Office Help Viewer, warning

"There are no help topic available that match your request".

Again, this problem is visible only when I deploy the virtual package in Win 7 x64 and Win 7 x86. In win XP Pro SP3 this feature is functioning as it should...

Why is Win 7 x64 crippling the functionality of the portable and what OS component/process may be responsible for this? Anyone, can give me a hint how to resolve this?

Thanks,

John

Hello,

i´ve tried to virtualize the Internet Explorer 10, but after the successful packaging, the exe-File does not start. It opens only the small usual notify window from ThinApp.
My packaging-environment consists of a blank Win7 32 bit VM.
ThinApp is installed in Version 4.7.3

Does anyone know what settings I have to make?

How to package MS Project 2010 on Windows 8.1 Update 1(64-bit) with native Office 2013 suite on virtual desktop image

Hi,

We have the following infrastructure:

VMware View 5.3 with non-persitent floating assignment pool

Windows 8.1 Update 1 image

Microsoft Office 2013 32-bit is installed locally on desktop image

Thinapp 5.1

We want to package Microsoft Project 32-bit on our platform with Thinapp.

I have tried all the tricks in the book when trying to package Project 2010 in our VMware enviroment. I have switched to 2010 version because Thinapp does not support Office 2013 on Windows 8.1 Update 1. But I start to suspect that our configuration is not supported by the fact that we have Office 2013 locally installed on our image..Good if someone can confirm that!

MS Project start, but hangs and is not "Not licensed" in Window toolbar. After trying to close the application we get a error message from: Microsoft Office Office 64-components saying that its can not find a MSI file. the name is 23a3267e.msi , but this filname is randomized and I cannot find anything when googling the filename.

I have followed these guides:

https://communities.vmware.com/thread/471565

http://www.egroup-us.com/2011/02/howto-thinapp-microsoft-office-2010-known-issues-and-resolutions/

I have even tried this custom thinapp tool: VMware KB: Resolving licensing errors when deploying virtual Office to a system with Office installed natively.

Have someone managed to package Visio or Project on a similar enviroment before?

And can someone confirm that a Thinapped 2010 Office applications will work on a image with Office 2013?

Vmware ThinApp Licensing

I did a demo of the Vmware ThinApp product and loved it.  I can see alot of use for the product BUT i don't understand the licensing.  I went to buy the product and it shows that it comes with 50 clients.  What are these clients for?  Does each device I might use this thinapp on need this client software?

Hi,

I have created a shortcut for a thinapp package. The shortcut is located on a network share

I have added all the details to the package.ini The thinapp creates the entry point but not the correct target location

How can i change the target location for the shortcut created

Unable to Query the registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib\009 index 0

When I run the Thinapp Prescan I come up with this error message and was just wondering if anyone has encountered this same error message on a plain vanilla Windows 7 installation.

Thank you,

I have an application that when you open the printer setup dialog and select a printer, the printer you selected doesn't stick.  When you go back into the printer setup, it reverts back to the default printer.   Any idea of a good place to start looking?

ThinApp'ed IE6 issues with Temporary Internet Files.

$

Hi,
I am currently facing an issue with a Thinapp'ed IE 6 Module. We are trying to run a web based application Via a thinapp'ed IE6 Module. At one point during the functionality testing we need to download a report(both .xls and .pdf format) and open the same.
However, opening the same gives a "file not found" error. On further analysis we see that this files is getting downloaded to "Temporary internet files" folder and the file just gets deleted automatically before it opens.
We tried setting the isolation mode to "Merged" in the ##attributes.ini" file in %Internet Cache% in the project directory.
Also, we tried adding the below properties in Package.ini File, but no luck.
VirtualizeExternalOutOfProcessCOM=0
ChildProcessEnvironmentExceptions=WINWORD.EXE;EXCEL.EXE;POWERPNT.EXE;OUTLOOK.EXE;MOC.EXE
ChildProcessEnvironmentDefault=External
We are not sure how the file is actually getting deleted from Temporary internet files" folder automatically.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks a lot in advance.

java 7 update 10 and forwards.

Hi.

I am ving some issues packaging java since the security changes made in java 7 update 10.

I am packaging java versions to be used with the system installed IE. Until now Ive followed the guide here http://blogs.vmware.com/thinapp/2010/01/step-by-step-instructions-on-how-to-thinapp-newer-java-versions.html , and all been just fine. the build machine is a clean windows XP image with just thinapp installed.

The problem i am facing now is th following.

The thinapp's work in windows 8 and XP fine, but in windows 7 and vista it chrashes IE when i try to go to any java based page.

I can get it working when i right click and "run as administrator". This is not a viable solution though.

Ive tried changing the security settings in java itself to see if that would solve anything but didnt help me.

So my question is, have anyone here succellfully thinapped then new java versioons and got them running across all the windows versions?

And if yes, what i am i missing?

Has anyone managed to capture this application using ThinApp 4.7.3 on Windows 8?

I have successfully captured the application using ThinApp 4.7.3 installed on Windows XP SP3, but whilst this works on a clean XP machine it doesn't work on a Windows 8 machine.

I just get a blank screen.

I basically do the following when trying to capture on Windows 8:

- prescan

- install Adobe Acrobat Air

- reboot

- install Zinio Reader 4

- post scan

- build

Any help or advice in how I can get this to work would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Native Office Install with ThinApp Excel Add-In

I have a ThinApp of an Excel Add-In.  I created an Excel entry point that utilizes the native excel.exe.  However, is it possible that when the user goes to

the start menu Microsoft Office -> Microsoft Excel that it uses the ThinApp?

I am using a 64-bit Windows 7 OS with Microsoft Office 2010 32-bit.

I followed these instructions:  http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2007144.

This is what I have in the package.ini:

[Excel AddIn.dat]
Source=%ProgramFilesDir%\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE

[Excel.exe]
Source=%ProgramFilesDir%\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE
Shortcut=Excel AddIn.dat
WorkingDirectory=%ProgramFilesDir%\Microsoft Office\Office14

Disabled=0

I created the folders for the native Office install in the capture folders for the app.

%ProgramFilesDir%\Microsoft Office\Office14

The Attributes.ini in the %ProgramFilesDir% is:

[Isolation]
DirectoryIsolationMode=WriteCopy

Thinapp - Audacity 2.0.3 - RelaunchUsingCreateProcess::CreateProcess failed

Hi,

I am trying to Thinapp Audacity 2.0.3. However I capture this application, I am getting "RelaunchUsingCreateProcess::CreateProcess failed" when running the compiled Thinapp.

Looking at other forums this problem is referred to, but I can't really find a solution.

I have captured on both Win7 x86 and WinXP x86 using mainly Thinapp defaults and no changes to package.ini. Selected full isolation mode, restricted to an AD group and compression enabled - other settings left as default.

Does anyone have any ideas on this please?

Thanks.

Error creating ThinApp of SPSS, Mathmatica and Matlab

I am in the process of trying to ThinApp 3 applications and keep getting the same issue each time.  The 3 applications are IBM SPSS version 21, Mathematica 9.0.1 and Matlab 2008b.  We are using ThinApp 4.7.3.891762 on a clean image of both Windows XP and Windows 7.  Once I set up the application on the Thinapp machine and go through the process of getting it ready, I ThinApp it and move it to our server that the holds all of the ThinApp'ed applications.  My ThinApp'ed Matlab creates the following files in the Bin directory:

MATLAB R2008b.dat

MATLAB R2008b.exe

MATLAB (1).exe

javacpl (1).exe

javacpl.exe

I moved the top 3 files to the ThinApp folder on the server and get the following error as the client boots up (server name was changed in the error below to be generic):

Unable to register \\servername.server.edu\thinapp\MATLAB  (1).exe

and

Unable to register \\servername.server.edu\thinapp\MATLAB R2008b.exe

Occasionally I get the following error:

thinapp.jpg

Ideas?

I was successful at creating a ThinApp of Stata 12, so I don't think that my process has a flaw, but I can't figure out why I get this error.  We are running VMWare View Agent version 4.5.0.293049.

Thank you for any help that you can provide.

Hello everybody,

We tried to install Microsoft Visio 2013 as a ThinApp package for Windows 8 Clients. The installation looks good but when we start Visio at the Client, we get the following Error:
"Microsoft Office can't find your license for this application. A repair attempt was unsuccessful or was cancelled. Microsoft Office will now exit."

But if we start Visio 2013 at the ThinApp-Client the Software is activated by our KMS-Server.

We already tried following things, but it doesn't help:

- VMware KB: Issues with ThinApp and Microsoft Office 2010

- ThinApp Microsoft Visio and Project 2010 while locally installed Microsoft Office 2010 | VMware ThinApp Blog - VMware Bl…

We would be happy if you can help us.

ThinApp Package not using Working Directory

$

I have been attempting to package some of our applications that use config files for settings.  We would like to have the config file external to the ThinApp package but tell the package to use the config file in a folder we specify on our network.  My attempts at trying this have repeatedly failed for numerous packages I have tried to create.  In the package.ini I have the isolation mode set to Merged and WorkingDirectory parameter set to point at our network share but the package always fails.  If I do package the application with config file in the same directory as the .exe the package works fine.  Am I missing something?

ThinApp TightVNC Server

$
0

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone had managed to ThinApp TightVNC server?

I have rolled out a windows 7 version to a virtual desktop and get all of the icons that I need.

VNC viewer comes up fine, and I can even use the viewer from a virtual desktop to connect to my reference VM where TightVNC is installed (installed locally).

When I run VNC server (the thinapp version), it shows the icon in the system tray and also the IP address of the VMware View VDI VM, but when I try to connect to the VM via a thinapped viewer it prompts for the password but then nothing happens, and I eventually get the connection was gracefully shutdown.

The scenario is, we have a wallboard which comes from a desktop pool via a thinclient, and we need multiple users to be able to access the wallboard without killing the session on screen.

I didn't want to hard install VNC Server on to the desktop image because another pool uses the same image, and I also didnt want to create a separate desktop image (because that means its another desktop I have to keep up to date with patches), so the idea was to thinapp VNC server, run it, and then users could connect to it via the thinapp VNC Viewer (with AD rights applied).

The problem I think we have is that the thinapp version of VNC Server doesnt install the TightVNC Server service in to windows and that might be the issue, despite me being able to telnet to the port that VNC is using (5900)...

Anyone any suggestions?

Thanks!
