Process can't terminate after exit?

Hi all,

It seems my application can't terminate itself upon exit. It does fine if running natively but after Thinapp packed the ThinApp image will left in process list and refuse to exit itself. I searched on forum and Google for a possible solution and possible cause but no luck. I came across someone mention using a VBscript to kill application by name after the firstParent exits, but it seems not a very reliable solution to me. Can anyone suggest a solution or a way to troubleshoot my thinapp? Or to breakdown the problem:

1. Is there a way to list all the process "inside" the virtual environment in run-time?

2. Is there a way to find all child process of a ThinApp instance?

3. What's the exit condition of ThinApp environment? all process terminates?

Setup Capture not restarting after prescan

I have now experienced this happen a few times on applications that force a reboot. Has anyone else had this problem ?

After doing a prescan and installing the application a forced reboot occurs. When the application restarts the setup capture does not recognise that a prescan has taken place.

Can anyone tell me what the command line syntax is to launch a post scan ?

I have also noticed that the HKEY_CURRENT_SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\RUN is empty as if its been wiped. Any help on this would be welcome

Preserving File Associations During ThinApped Application Upgrade

$

I'm struggeling to get this to work correctly. Does anyone have a howto or a link to a good doc that shows how to maintain file associations with an upgraded (new) thinapp when you remove the old thinapp? i.e. I have an application being used by some View desktops. I update the application and provide it to the desktops for testing / training. Then once the users are happy and are using the new version of the thinapp, I remove the old thinapp that is no longer being used and the file associations are being removed even though the new thinapp was using them.

Thanks!

Unable to start virtual service on physical machine

HI,

While attempting to check our application on thin-app virtualization, we have reached a state where after installation of packaged Windows XP application, we are able to see the services listed in Windows 7 but we are not able to start them.

At this point we need some guidance on –

1. Are we doing right? Is there anything else to be done other than registering the service?

2. How to start those services on physical machine (currently getting timeout error when attempted to start).

3. Relevant users and groups are not created on base machine( Win 7), so should we create them manually or should the virtual package be allowed to handle it?

Can you please direct us,so that we can progress further with some help?

Thinapped Quickbooks Pro 2014 and updates

$

I have successfully thinapped quickbooks pro 2014 and rolled it out using managed msi thinapps from Horizon view console (Thinapps V5, View Version 5.2, windows 7) It all works fine until I try to run QuickBooks update from R4 to R5. If I try to run the update now from within quickbooks it seems to download and update some of the areas, but then you have to close QB and restart it. At this point it tells you it has an update waiting and gives you the option to install it. If I click install it starts the process and very quickly fails with an error 1601. If I download the patch file manually and run that I see the QuickBooks webinstaller decompress several files and then try to update them It then fails saying there is no quickbooks installed.

I went back to the master install machine, recreated QB thinapp package, manually installed this on the test machine, both updates still failed. I then tried both methods of updates (auto and manual) on the master machine at the point just after post capture, and on both occasions it worked.

Has anyone else managed to update QB 2014 when it was thinapped, and if so how please?

Creating portable VST plug-ins

I've used ThinApp for portable VST plug-ins development. Using .exe as entry point everything works fine. But .dll files of VST plug-ins saves almost all data in registry and don't use the sandbox. How to make .dll file of VST plug-in portable? Is it possible to create an entry point of the .dll file?

External Client Access to ThinApp Program

$

I'm new to the whole ThinApp/VMWare environment, so sorry if this is a little vague or has been covered already someplace else.  I can get any answers you may need or am fine with simply being pointed to the appropriate information.  We currently have several applications that we have setup with Citrix that clients are able to access from an external internet connection.  We use a Citrix Access Gateway appliance that the clients log into via a web portal and displays the applications they have access to.  They can then launch whatever application they need to run.  I'd like to move away from Citrix and to a ThinApp solution, but I'm not sure if there is a product out there similar to the Citrix Access Gateway that would allow secured access from external internet clients into our network (DMZ) for access to the applications.  What products are out there that we could use?  Is there something built into VMWare or would we need a third party software product/device to accomplish this?  Thanks in advance!

2 versions of Mozilla Firefox: local and virtualized

$

Here is my problem:

I have to virtualize mozilla firefox version 3.6, but should also be on the user's computer the latest version of mozilla Firefox (15.0).
The user executes the application locally installed firefox, then launches the virtualized ... the virtualized package starts well but opens a second firefox with version 15.0.
How could I do to get Mozilla firefox 2 launched a version 15 (local) and the other virtualized (3.6)?
thank you

Office 2013; capture on Windows 7, deploy on Windows 8 - activation error

$

Hey guys,

I tried to capture Office 2013 Pro Plus on Windows 7 SP1 x86, using TA 4.7.3 and deploy on Windows 8 x64

I followed every available instruction thats out there for Office 2010, which work great when captured on WIndows XP and deployed on Windows 7 or 8.

However none of them seem to work for Office 2013 and Windows 8 - as soon as I start an application Office tells me that activation isn't possible and quits. So pretty much the same thing that happens when you dont capture Office 2010 properly.

I really would ask VMWare to come up with a tutorial to deploy Office 2013 on Windows 8.

Did anybody try and succeed so far?

thanks

Delete old Sandboxes in \Roaming\Thinstall

$

Hello,

Does anyone know how to permanently delete old sandboxes in the \user\appdata\roaming\thinstall directory? If I delete them wait for some time for Persona to record changes, restart a new floating desktop, all of the sandboxes I deleted are back. These are to Thinapps that are no longer being served by View, and therefore the package was a test and has long been deleted itself. I now find my roaming profile filled with obsolete sandboxes, and one sandbox that causes my current Thinapp to fail so I need to get that one deleted as well. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Possible to disable ThinApp pop up upon launch?

Office 2013 will not Activate after building package using ThinApp 5.0

$

I have a clean Windows 7 64bit system, Thinapp 5.0 installed.   I have followed the procedures provided ( VMware KB: Packaging guide for ThinApp 5.x and Microsoft Office 2013 )  for creating an Office 2013 32bit Thinapp but continue to have licensing issues.   Office shows as activated on the capture machine so it's hitting the KMS correctly.  I have stopped the OSPP service before the capture.   I have added the required config lines to the config.XML before the installation of office.  I have modified the registry file for HKLM before running the build.

After the build is complete I can open the applications for a couple minutes before they try to finish configuration and fail.  Using the debug option to enable CMD and Regedit I have verified that my KMS server is in the registry correctly.   When I run OSPP.VBS from the CMD prompt it shows no products that need to be registered.   I played around with things for a while trying to use the /ACT switch and other things and once, somehow in the combination of playing with things it started working.  I could launch Word, Excel, Outlook etc.   After I logged out, logged back in and tried to load the Thinapp again I received the same failed results again and the apps close.

Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong or what could cause this issue?

Rebuilding ThinApp: Class not registered.

$

I've been noticing over the past few years that sometimes when you re-build a ThinApp using a newer version of ThinApp it might not work correctly.

For instance, I have an in-house application (that is ThinApp'd) that I needed to change a single file on.  I copied my Captured ThinApp folder over to my ThinApp VM and modified the file, and re-built the ThinApp with the latest version 5.1.  Now when launching the ThinApp it gives an error saying "Class not registered."  If I click the OK button it seems to function just fine.  I tried re-building the ThinApp with version 5.0 and ran into the same problem, but when I tried re-building it with 4.7.2 the error message is no longer there.

I run into this from time to time with various applications, and when I can't figure it out I try different versions of ThinApp and that seems to fix the problem.

Anyone else run into this?
