VMware vSphere 6 Essentials Kit license issue

Hello,

I am completely new to all of this and looking around for help. I was trying to do vMotion of my VMs without vMotion using your software version 9.5.I tried in four different ESXi 6.0 servers and I get the same error: "Current vSphere license or ESXi version prohibits execution of the requested operation"

I've checked Software Explainer Video but I don't see the detailed. After that I tried to reinstall the vMware license but doesn't works, the workaround that I have used is: Go to licenses -> Install new license -> And I had installed the same version to re-apply the license. I didn't use a free license of vMware, why it's not working? .I went through many resources but did not find any solution for this issues. Please help me out.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you

Very slow portable app to access a folder

Hi everyone!

I'm new in creating portable applications so this might be a newbie question.

I've created a portable app of an application which saves files on the pc. When the file is saved and displayed as completed, if i right click on the item there is an option to access the folder where the item is saved. When i do this, it takes over a minute to just open the folder.

When i try this with the installed application, it opens the folder instantly.

I am using Windows 10 Enterprise. I also tried this on the virtual machine and it still have this issue. When accessing folders through the app, it is extremely slow and sometimes it even crashes.

Anyone knows what might be the issue? What do i need to change in Package.ini to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

An issue with ThinApp on Windows 10 1709

$

Hi All,

This is my first question in this community. I'm currently evaluating VMware ThinApp, version 5.2.3.

I'm trying to pack our desktop application for running it later from a CD. The final product will hold some medical data given to our customers along with a viewer to open the data.

We're planning to use ThinApp to pack our software that reads from the registry, so that it works without having to use registry keys on customer's computers.

Now, all this works very well on Windows 7. However, when I try to run the packed program on the latest Windows 10 (Fall Creators Update, build 1709) I'm getting these errors:

Error.JPG

Followed by:

Error2.JPG

I'm running the packed application from a desktop computer (not a CD, yet).

I've tried everything I could think of and I'm a bit clueless...

Does ThinApp 5.2.3 actually support Windows 10 build 1709? Or is it something else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

ThinApp 5.2.2 - Capture IE8 from Windows XP x64

$

To resolve a compatibility issue with document scanners and a specific application in our existing IE8 ThinApp captured from Windows XP x86, VMWare engineers recommended that we capture IE8 from Windows XP x64.

I have the capture process running fine, pre-scan with the VM running IE6, Install IE8, reboot and post-scan.

The browser will run on Windows 10 x64 without issue. It will not run on Windows 7 x64, and crashes with an error message of "Internet Explorer has stopped working". I have tried running the ThinApp log monitor on the Windows 7 machine, but the crash dump is so large it's hard to parse any data out of it.

Thinapp 5.2.1: Services file not correctly packaged in 32-bit application on X64 Windows 7

$

Again I have found an issue with Thinapp 5.2.1.

am busy repackaging software I made before for a 32-bit environment for a 64-bit Windows 7 environment.

ackages can be either 32-bit of 64-bit programs, but the Thinapp package is always made on a X64 Windows 7 system.

The problem description is as follows:
Was packaging an laboratory application called Glims (version 9.5.15) for our hospital.

This is 32-bit software using a 32-bit Progress database client.

All software is basically installed in folders located in the root of C:\

During the install, some services entries are added to the SERVICES (located in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc)

During the capture, the changed SERVICES file is stored in the %SystemSystem(x64)%\drivers\etc location.

However, after building the application, the SERVICES entry does not reappear in the correct location.

Instead it is relocated to the C:\Windows\WinSXS\AMD64_microsoft-windows-w..nfrastructure-other_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_nonte_6079f415110c0210-folder.

The result is that the program fails to start because the SERVICES-file cannot be found in the correct/expected location.

(For now, I have solved the problem to copy the \drivers\etc-entry from the %SystemSystem(x64)% also in the %SystemSystem%-location.

After rebuilding, the application now seems to be working ok

Still, is this behaviour by design or is this an issue?

Get the correct local IP address from java applet

Hello all, I have Problem go through it!

I would like to determine the local IP address from my java applet. The problem is when there are several IP adresses on the same machine, which has LAN and internet connections (palm, VMWare...).

Here is my test :

public static void main(String[] args) {   try {   String hostName = InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostName();   System.out.println("HostName = " + hostName);   System.out.println("HostAddressLocal = " +   InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostAddress());   InetAddress[] inetAddresses = InetAddress.getAllByName(hostName);   for (InetAddress inetAddress : inetAddresses) {   System.out.println("hostAddress = " + inetAddress.getHostAddress());   }   } catch (Exception e) {  e.printStackTrace();   }   }

The result is :

  HostName = xxxx    HostAddressLocal = xx.xx.xx.xx    hostAddress = 10.10.11.51    hostAddress = 192.168.23.1    hostAddress = 192.168.106.1

where xx.xx.xx.xx isn't the correct address. The correct is 10.10.11.51.

EDIT in response to jarnbjo :

Your Crystal Report ball say the truth. You've understand my problem. The client can connect through a proxy so I can not use your first point. If I execute this code below on my computer :

Socket s = new Socket("www.w3c.org", 80);     InetAddress ip = s.getLocalAddress();     System.out.println("Internet IP = " + ip.toString());     s.close();

I have this result :

    >> Internet IP = /127.0.0.1

And not 10.10.11.51

.Net Framework application using Applink - have to launch twice before it executes

$

I have been trying to ThinApp the RSS Bandit application, a .Net Framework based application which requires .Net Framework v3.5.  I have created a separate ThinApp of .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 and then subsequently created a ThinApp of RSS Bandit.   Finally added an Applink (tried both optional and required) to the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 capture.  The capture was taken on a vanilla XP SP2 VMware Workstation image.  I am using ThinApp version 4.0.2866.

However when I run RSS Bandit for it spawns the license window in the bottom right hand corner and then a few seconds later disappears.  The RSS Bandit.exe process sticks in Task Manager at about 12-15MB of memory but utilising zero CPU.  If I run the process again it spawns a separate instance and the license window appears and stays visible longer and you can see it begin to process the .NET Framework elements.  The application then launches and functions as expected.   This has to be done everytime to get the application to launch.  You have to then manually kill the remaining RSS Bandit process.

I am also experiencing the same issue with Paint.NET application.  As I thought I would try a different .NET application to try and pinpoint the cause - this seems to point to it being the .NET Framework element, I think!

I have also attempted to capture the entire installation (.NET Framework and RSS Bandit) together without success but even if this had been unsuccessful it is highy undesirable as the application is intended for streaming via a network share.

Has anyone seen this type of issue before and can offer any advice how to resolve at all please?  it's doing my head in.  I must have recaptured .NET Framework and RSS Bandit a dozen times each by now.

Any advice gratefully received!  Thanks in advance.

Paul.

Unable to load required Type Library C:\Program Files\ThinstallPlugins\scripting.dll

$

Hi all,

I'm a newby for ThinApp, and I'm having this problem with a package, maybe someone could help with.

One of my packages runs perfectly as it is, but I need to add a vbs script to have it do something before the application starts. However, as soon as I add ANY script to the package and rebuild, I get this error on startup of the application:

Scripting System:

Unable to load required Type Library

C:\Program Files\ThininstallPlugins\scripting.dll

Error Code=0x8007000e

I can see scripting.dll being added to the build at the end of the building process, so that's not the problem.

The same thing happens when I build the application without a script, but applink it to another application that does have a script inside. (Although this second application runs fine when run on its own, and the script executes without problem).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Vincent

Thinapped Adobe Reader opening pdf's in a Local install of IE

We have a document management system which runs through IE which is installed onto the local machine.

I need to be able to see a PDF within the page of IE, at the moment it asks to open the file. Which does work as I have thinreg Adobe Reader and that all works fine. What i cant seem to do is get the local IE to see the ThinApped Reader.

It does work if I run the IE from within the Bin folder of Adobe Reader. I just dont know how to get them to talk, I guess its to do with the Applink command but not sure what i should be entering. Ive seen lots of questions like this but cant seem to get any of the answers to work. If someone could do a dummies guide on how to get this to work I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Chrome in ThinApp 4.6

I am trying to capture Google Chrome using ThinApp 4.6.

Unlike previous ThinApp version, the .exe of Chrome now runs without crashing! (yeah)

However, even when plugins mode is enable, I cannot get any of the plugins to work. Also, it refuses to install and extension, citing that it cannot create some temporary install directory.

Can someone please verify this and help?

ThinApp Script to terminate child processes

$

Working on virtualizing Quickbooks 2012 Premier with Eval version of ThinApp 4.7.

QB leaves 3 or 4 processes running after closing QB that consume too much RAM to keep running indefinitely in a Remote Desktop environment, so I'd like them to terminate along with QuickBooks. My experiments thus far show no ill effects from doing so, aside from longer QB load times. And it has the side-benefit of preventing background QB updates, which, here, is desireable.

I am including a VBScript with my package that works correctly outside the bubble, but does not work at all when run from the OnFirstParentExit callback. The relevant code follows:

Function OnFirstParentExit     Dim objWMIService     Dim colProcess     Dim objProcess     strComputer = "."     Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")     Set colProcess = objWMIService.ExecQuery("SELECT * FROM Win32_Process")     For Each objProcess in colProcess          If InStr(UCase(objProcess.Name), "QUICKBOOKS") > 0 Then               objProcess.Terminate          End If     Next
End Function

I've verified that closing QB does, in fact, run this procedure, by adding a Wscript.Echo statement.

Is it not possible to terminate these processes from a script within the bubble? If so, is there a way to have OnFirstParentExit run this procedure outside the bubble?

TIA

Thinapp 4.6 - Scanner is busy

Hi,

We have a weird problem.

When we use a Cannon DR-2510C scanner (32bit driver) on a windows 7 32 bit client from a virtual application everything works fine.

On a windows 7 64 bit client we receive the error 'scanner is busy operation cannot be completed - 4437'.

The scanner can be used on a windows 7 64 bit client from a local application.

The scanner doesn't have a 64bit driver.

Any ideas on how to make this work?

Greetings,

Lindsay

MSI error 110 - files not found in c:\windows\installers but streaming entry points work ok

I'm packaging an app called SAS 9.3

When I've come to install from the MSI I get an error stating 'internal error 110...msiname'. Launching via entry points is fine.

When installing msi with a verbose log generated it states..

There are indeed a series of msi's that exist in c:\windows\installer and they have been included in the Thinapp, but it seems these files are dynamically named and so 4c1ab3.msi does not exist! For example I just tried to install the msi again on the same machine and the log now states this..(everytime I try to install it tries to locate a different msi name)

The system cannot open the device or file specified.

Any pointers welcome...this isn't specific to just this app, I had the same problem with Adobe CS6 and that was convieniently solved by excluding Acrobat from the package. I don't have the option to remove anything else from this package. I should perhaps mention that it is a 4.1GB MSI and a 4.2GB DAT in case it's relevant, but I'm using msiexec v5 on Windows 7 SP1.

Thinapp file associations.

$

We are in the middle of piloting VMware view for our virtual desktop.

We have a Windows 8.1 gold image with Office on and we thinapp all other apps.

The problem I am having is with file associations. I have read a lot of posts about thinreg, but that doesn't seem to work.

Our apps are registered in Programs and features (add/remove progs).

For example, Visio 2007. The user wants to double click on a vsd file and have it launch Visio.

The thinapps are on a network share.

Is it a Windows 8.1 problem? Can anyone else open a vsd file in Visio?

How to package MS Project 2010 on Windows 8.1 Update 1(64-bit) with native Office 2013 suite on virtual desktop image

$

Hi,

We have the following infrastructure:

VMware View 5.3 with non-persitent floating assignment pool

Windows 8.1 Update 1 image

Microsoft Office 2013 32-bit is installed locally on desktop image

Thinapp 5.1

We want to package Microsoft Project 32-bit on our platform with Thinapp.

I have tried all the tricks in the book when trying to package Project 2010 in our VMware enviroment. I have switched to 2010 version because Thinapp does not support Office 2013 on Windows 8.1 Update 1. But I start to suspect that our configuration is not supported by the fact that we have Office 2013 locally installed on our image..Good if someone can confirm that!

MS Project start, but hangs and is not "Not licensed" in Window toolbar. After trying to close the application we get a error message from: Microsoft Office Office 64-components saying that its can not find a MSI file. the name is 23a3267e.msi , but this filname is randomized and I cannot find anything when googling the filename.

I have followed these guides:

https://communities.vmware.com/thread/471565

http://www.egroup-us.com/2011/02/howto-thinapp-microsoft-office-2010-known-issues-and-resolutions/

I have even tried this custom thinapp tool: VMware KB: Resolving licensing errors when deploying virtual Office to a system with Office installed natively.

Have someone managed to package Visio or Project on a similar enviroment before?

And can someone confirm that a Thinapped 2010 Office applications will work on a image with Office 2013?
