ThinApp Project 2013

$

Dear community,

We're trying (hard) to make a ThinApp Package of Microsoft Project 2013. We want it to work on an image where Office 2013 is installed (master).

We've tried it many times but we're always block by the production activation (No licence can be found, bla bla and then the program closed). We already have followed plenty of tutorials but with no success:

Re: Thinapp Visio 2013 / Project 2013

VMware KB: Packaging guide for ThinApp 5.x and Microsoft Office 2013

Last tries were done like that:

1) Copy Project install folder (French and German) to ThinApp machine

2) Configure config.xml file with

     - "Accept EULA" -> YES

     - MAK Key + Auto activation

3) Disconnect NIC adapter

4) Prescan

5) Install software with command line setup.exe /config prjww.std\config.xml (for both languages)

6) Stop osppsvc.exe

7) Launch application once (already tried without starting the app)

8) Postcan

9) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USERS modifcations

If anyone has any clues, it will be welcomed.

Regards,

VMware ThinApp Enterprise silent installation... ¿?

Hi.

I'm having complications with the ThinApp 5.x installer. My intentions is to perform a silent installation of ThinApp in a Virtual Machine to save time manually installing applications, then, after analyzing the MSI propertys, I've discovered the required property  names and values, so I'm launching the application with these arguments:

VMware-ThinApp-Enterprise-5.1.1-2722044.exe /silent /noSilentReboot /debug /verbose /log ".\Install.log" /msi_args EDITION=ENTERPRISE LicenseKey=CENSORED LicenseDisplayName=Elektro EULAS_AGREED=1 ADDLOCAL=ALL

However, the license dialog with name ThinAppLicenseKeyDlg still appears:

Captura 1.png

What more I need to do to ignore that dialog?.

PS: I'm using a valid license key, that is not the problem.

Maybe I could set other value for EDITION property to install a free edition to avoid the license dialog? (what values are supported for that parameter?), then after installation has finished add a registry key to validate my enterprise edition or some other workaround?.

how to edit existing thin app application?

dll - the specified module could not be found

Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help, having issues ThinApping an application which uses C++ runtime dll's. The application in question is a calibration tester for gas detectors and isn't available for public use. The application launches fine but when you choose to edit a calibration file, which is literally just a file, you click edit and Windows Explorer launches to browse for the file, you can choose the file and then following error pops up:

Unable to load mfc80.dll - The specified module could be found

I can see the above dll within the winsxs folder so it exists, I have also tried copying the dll file to the %systemsystem% folder, when copied to the %systemsystem% folder the above error disappears but then a new error pops up:

Runtime Error!

R6034 An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.

And at this point I'm stuck. I have read up a bit about dll's not being loaded/found and implemented some of the suggestions on this forum including:

- ThinApping the application with C++ Redistributable Package 2005 (2005 appears to the C++ package with this specific dll in it)

- Adding ExternalDLLs=mfc80.dll to the package.ini

- Copied all the dll's (not just the one dll which appears to be causing me problems) within the winsxs to the relevant %systemsystem% and %systemsystem(x64)% folders

ThinApp was done on Windows 7 x64 capture machine, using ThinApp 5.2.1 and target VDI desktop is also Windows 7 x64.

I can run the ThinApped application fine from various other Windows 7 desktops including the machine it was captured on and my own personal laptop, appears to be an issue with target VDI desktop we wish to deploy to.

Anyone else had any experience of this? Any suggestions?

After upgrading to windows 10 creator update these applications crash.

Every time the event viewer shows an error 1000, Application crash, Faulting Module c:\windows\system32\oleaut32.dll.

We tried with thinapp 5.2 and 5.2.2.

Is this a known issue with the creator update ?

Hello,

I am completely new to all of this and looking around for help. I was trying to do vMotion of my VMs without vMotion using your software version 9.5.I tried in four different ESXi 6.0 servers and I get the same error: "Current vSphere license or ESXi version prohibits execution of the requested operation"

I've checked Software Explainer Video but I don't see the detailed. After that I tried to reinstall the vMware license but doesn't works, the workaround that I have used is: Go to licenses -> Install new license -> And I had installed the same version to re-apply the license. I didn't use a free license of vMware, why it's not working? .I went through many resources but did not find any solution for this issues. Please help me out.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you

Very slow portable app to access a folder

Hi everyone!

I'm new in creating portable applications so this might be a newbie question.

I've created a portable app of an application which saves files on the pc. When the file is saved and displayed as completed, if i right click on the item there is an option to access the folder where the item is saved. When i do this, it takes over a minute to just open the folder.

When i try this with the installed application, it opens the folder instantly.

I am using Windows 10 Enterprise. I also tried this on the virtual machine and it still have this issue. When accessing folders through the app, it is extremely slow and sometimes it even crashes.

Anyone knows what might be the issue? What do i need to change in Package.ini to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

An issue with ThinApp on Windows 10 1709

Hi All,

This is my first question in this community. I'm currently evaluating VMware ThinApp, version 5.2.3.

I'm trying to pack our desktop application for running it later from a CD. The final product will hold some medical data given to our customers along with a viewer to open the data.

We're planning to use ThinApp to pack our software that reads from the registry, so that it works without having to use registry keys on customer's computers.

Now, all this works very well on Windows 7. However, when I try to run the packed program on the latest Windows 10 (Fall Creators Update, build 1709) I'm getting these errors:

Error.JPG

Followed by:

Error2.JPG

I'm running the packed application from a desktop computer (not a CD, yet).

I've tried everything I could think of and I'm a bit clueless...

Does ThinApp 5.2.3 actually support Windows 10 build 1709? Or is it something else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

"failed to create process default activation context" For some users and not others?!

Hello,

We are trialing thinapp to specificaly fix an issue we are having. I'm very new to Thinapp so please bare with me if theres thing you need me to check.

I have packaged IE6 with a version of Java. I did this on a bare XP workstation with nothing but VMware tools running. the XP workstation had a full windows update before the pre-scan was performed.

The application will be run on a Server 2008 64 bit citrix farm and when i log in and run the application it works fine as it does for my test user. I published this for testing by or users and a lot of them get the error "failed to create process default activation context".

From what I have read, this is due to a file missing from the package or something missing on the host OS however I'm not sure how this can be.

Any ideas?

Thinapp 5.2.1: Services file not correctly packaged in 32-bit application on X64 Windows 7

$

Again I have found an issue with Thinapp 5.2.1.

am busy repackaging software I made before for a 32-bit environment for a 64-bit Windows 7 environment.

ackages can be either 32-bit of 64-bit programs, but the Thinapp package is always made on a X64 Windows 7 system.

The problem description is as follows:
Was packaging an laboratory application called Glims (version 9.5.15) for our hospital.

This is 32-bit software using a 32-bit Progress database client.

All software is basically installed in folders located in the root of C:\

During the install, some services entries are added to the SERVICES (located in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc)

During the capture, the changed SERVICES file is stored in the %SystemSystem(x64)%\drivers\etc location.

However, after building the application, the SERVICES entry does not reappear in the correct location.

Instead it is relocated to the C:\Windows\WinSXS\AMD64_microsoft-windows-w..nfrastructure-other_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_nonte_6079f415110c0210-folder.

The result is that the program fails to start because the SERVICES-file cannot be found in the correct/expected location.

(For now, I have solved the problem to copy the \drivers\etc-entry from the %SystemSystem(x64)% also in the %SystemSystem%-location.

After rebuilding, the application now seems to be working ok

Still, is this behaviour by design or is this an issue?

Office 2010 License issue

I have created a thinapp of Office 2010 - (Pro plus + Project and  Visio). We have an enterprise license, and I have made sure it is  activated before creating the thinapp package. Thinapp created in Windows 7

I have run the Microsoft Office 2010 Deployment Kit for App-V on the target machine as recommended on a vmware blog.

When I try to launch one of the apps, I get an installer window that  says "configuring Microsoft office..." It fails with the message "Error  1719. The Windows installer service could not be accessed. This can  occur if the windows installer  is not correctly installed. contact support personnel..."

An  error window follows this failure stating "Microsoft Office Pro Plus  2010 cannot verify the license for this application. A repair attempt  failed or was cancelled by the user. The application will now shut  down."

Office obv thinks its an unlicensed version

Any suggestions?

Unable to Send Email As Attachment From Adobe Reader 10.1

Adobe Reader 10.1.1 (Full Install)

Windows 7 64Bit

Office 2010 32 Bit

IE8

When I open a PDF, and go to Tools - Send Files, Attach to Email (with Outlook open), when I click attach it says Launching email application and eventually comes back with the error "The file Z:\users\username\appdata\local\Microsoft\Outlook\username.ost cannot be opened.".  These are dedicated desktop pools and Z: is where the persistent disk is stored.

I have tried everything on the forums I can find, I have compared permissions on that folder with that of my regular desktop (which works fine) and they all match.  I even rebuilt the ThinApp from scratch with the latest version of ThinApp.  I am out of ideas.

I have attached the package.ini file in case that helps anyone.

OCX Files in ThinApp 5.1.1

$

I'm using ThinApp 5.1.1-2722044

In the release notes for this version it says that OCX files are now registered. However I've captured an application which upon launch fails with the error CodeJock.DockingPane.Unicode.v11.2.2.ocx or one of its dependencies is not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

During the capture, I can launch the installed application correctly without error.

After the packaging, I can launch the virtual application on the capturing machine without error.

If I launch the virtual application on a different machine, it errors as above, and if I roll the capture virtual machine back to a pre-install snapshot, it also generates the error.

So it does seem that OCX files are part of the install and ThinApp has missed them.

Any ideas how to go about resolving this one?

.Net Framework application using Applink - have to launch twice before it executes

$

I have been trying to ThinApp the RSS Bandit application, a .Net Framework based application which requires .Net Framework v3.5.  I have created a separate ThinApp of .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 and then subsequently created a ThinApp of RSS Bandit.   Finally added an Applink (tried both optional and required) to the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 capture.  The capture was taken on a vanilla XP SP2 VMware Workstation image.  I am using ThinApp version 4.0.2866.

However when I run RSS Bandit for it spawns the license window in the bottom right hand corner and then a few seconds later disappears.  The RSS Bandit.exe process sticks in Task Manager at about 12-15MB of memory but utilising zero CPU.  If I run the process again it spawns a separate instance and the license window appears and stays visible longer and you can see it begin to process the .NET Framework elements.  The application then launches and functions as expected.   This has to be done everytime to get the application to launch.  You have to then manually kill the remaining RSS Bandit process.

I am also experiencing the same issue with Paint.NET application.  As I thought I would try a different .NET application to try and pinpoint the cause - this seems to point to it being the .NET Framework element, I think!

I have also attempted to capture the entire installation (.NET Framework and RSS Bandit) together without success but even if this had been unsuccessful it is highy undesirable as the application is intended for streaming via a network share.

Has anyone seen this type of issue before and can offer any advice how to resolve at all please?  it's doing my head in.  I must have recaptured .NET Framework and RSS Bandit a dozen times each by now.

Any advice gratefully received!  Thanks in advance.

Paul.

Chrome in ThinApp 4.6

I am trying to capture Google Chrome using ThinApp 4.6.

Unlike previous ThinApp version, the .exe of Chrome now runs without crashing! (yeah)

However, even when plugins mode is enable, I cannot get any of the plugins to work. Also, it refuses to install and extension, citing that it cannot create some temporary install directory.

Can someone please verify this and help?
