Folder redirection

$

Hi,

I've got an application called NetViewer / NetBuilder from Nokia Siemens that I'm trying to get working. The application itself is actually working fine, but if you run it in an environment where you have redirected your Desktop it will automatically create an AppData directory on that same location and write a lot of files, only 3.5 megabytes in total, but at 1 byte at a time. This generates a lot of IO and the application takes an hour or two to start.

Can we use some kind of trick in Thinapp to make the application believe that the Desktop has not been redirected?

High CPU overhead

After thinapping a quite IO intensive application, I've noticed that it was running very slowly and eating up lots of CPU time. Using Process Monitor, it appears that most of the time was spent on file operations, specifically open, close and "getting attributes" operations; reads and writes were fine.

The strangest thing I've noticed is that the faster the CPU is, the more time is wasted in these operations (for instance, it is unusable on my i7 (about 6ms for each of those operations) but only slightly slow on an Intel Atom).

This is the only application that seems to be affected by the issue.

Any idea how to fix this?

I'm using Thinapp 5.1 on Windows 8.1 x64 (problem is also present on Windows 7).

Your Runtime License has Expired

I have a customer who downloaded and installed the 60-day Trial of ThinApp... by the 45th day or so, she liked it so much that she had

already virtualized about 3 dozen or so Apps... The License file was, of course, the Trial license...

Well, she just purchased and received her ThinApp "real" License, but not before the Trial one ran out...  So now, every time she launches

a ThinApp'd app, she immediately gets a small screen that says, "License Error:  Your Runtime License Has Expired"... She can only

click "OK", and that's it... Nothing else...

Where can I tell her to go, to input the new Production license file that she has just purchased, so that all her Apps "work" again?

Is she just hosed?  Will she have to re-virtualize all those Apps again?

Thanks.

thinapp process Firefox 49.x kills

Hi everyone,

we're experiencing a problem with the thinapp of Firefox; since Mozilla Firefox 49.0, the thinapp process of the packaged application kills after a couple of seconds after starting the entrypoint. The problem occurs in 49.0 and 49.0.1 (x64).

We ran LogMonitor but couldn't identify the problem.

I copied he most important entries in the trace file into the end of this discussionentry.

Does anyone encounter the same issues?

And if so, and when solved, what was the solution to the problem?

Does anyone have an idea to the solution?

Is there a posibility to virtualize a Windows 7 application to run on Windows XP or you can only virtualize from a lower OS to a higher OS.

Thanks you!

ThinApp - Paint.NET problem.

Hello,

We have tried packaging Paint.NET but it did not work. We used a clean virtual machine while doing that but the resulting .exe file does not even work on the virtual machine although Paint.NET works on it.

.NET is packaged together with Paint.NET. The error is:

"Missing Import C:\Prpgram Files\paint.net\SxS\X86\ucrtbase.dll -> kernelbase.dll:CreateProcessA"

We have also tried copying .dll files in different directories but it is still not working.

Thanks in advance.

Note: Same problem with TortoiseSVN.

I have tried several time to Thinapp Google Chrome (version 15.0.874.121 m) but keep running into problems. I will run the prescan, then install flash player and java, then install chrome and make the changes i need to for the broweser, then run the postscan. i choose the top google chrome.exe as my main entry point and unselect everything else, then build my package. I build it with a .DAT and a .MSI package. i then copy the packages out to our file server and then try to run them from a view desktop and i get the following error "Google Chrome.exe - Fatal Application Exit Unable to open. I press OK to the message and it dissapears. i have tried to build the package with multiple entry pointes to see if it works with no luck. I have even tried to package it using the .EXE instead of .DAT. Can someone please walk me through the steps needed to get chrome thinapped? The simpler the steps the better i will be able to understand.

Thanks

Thinapp, Quickbooks and DFS

Hello,

I tried to thinapp QuickBooks 2011 and found such problem: Thinapped Quickbooks can't normally worked with user shell folders (My Documents, Desktop), which was remapped to network drives. Shares for network drives created with DFS, when used usual shares there is no problems. Thinapped application can see content of these folders, but can't writes to them.

The most interesting in this situation, that all works fine with previsions version of Thinapp (4.6.1). If application build with 4.6.2 there is above problems, if with 4.6.1 - everything OK. Doesn't matter which version used for capturing.

Is this bug in new version? Or this can be fixed by some settings?

Disallow apps write to Event Log

Hi.

Maybe that is stupid question but...

Is there some way to disallow or isolate thinapped applications write to Event Log?

Usually thinapped application generates a lot of "warnings" and "errors" in Event log

but works fine. Event log turns into garbage dump.

Maybe, someday developers create Package.ini parameter to do this.

Hi,

we deploy a ThinApp with Word 2003. When a user is forced to update to "Creator Update" the ThinApp does not work anymore.

I think there would be the need of a fix from VMware, ist there something in the near timeline?

Hi.

I have create file associations for few thinapped applications (Adobe Reader, Microsoft Word).

First file is opened as expected. But next time I click on file it start new process of

thinapped application, after few seconds it closes and file opens in existing windows.

It is significantly slows down opening files in thin application.

Is it normal operation? Is there any way to open files in existing window (process) at once?

TASurrogate.exe is not unloaded

Hi.

In thinnaped application there is feature to create thumbnails of files.

To create thumbnails app use COM surrogacy.

Consequently, thinapp use TASurrogate.exe to do it.

The problem is that TASurrogate.exe doesn't unload after operation and some times even after main application exit.

Is there same way to force TASurrogate.exe unload?

Running multiple versions of Acrobat Reader

Is there a way to get multiple versions of Acrobat Reader to run at the same time. We have some old legacy apps that require Acrobat Reader 4? We have created a thinapp package for Acrobat Reader 8 and it works great. However, we can not run both Acrobat Reader 4 and Acrobat Reader 8 (thinapp) at the same time. If Acrobat Reader 8 (thinapp) is running and you try to open Acrobat Reader 4, it opens Acrobat Reader 8. If I close Acrobat Reader 8 (thinapp), then we are able to open Acrobat Reader 4.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

White screen in thinapp of Firefox, thinapp not working - Firefox version 50 and higher

Hi everyone,

we're experiencing another problem with the thinapp of Firefox; since Mozilla Firefox 50.x, the thinapp the packaged application only shows a white screen, even without the menubar.

We've seen this problem in Firefox versions 50.0.2, 50.1.0, 51.0 and 51.0.1.

Thinapps of Firefox versions 49.0.2 and lower, work fine.

We've tried:
- 32b Firefox
- 64b Firefox
- Thinapp 5.2.2
- Thinapp 5.1.0
- base image (only OS)
- production image
- and all combinations of the above

Our OS is Windows 7 (Enterprise N), SP1, 64b.

As a build option in the package.ini, necessarry since Firefox version 49.x, we added
ExternalDLLs=ucrtbase.dll

We ran LogMonitor but couldn't identify the problem.

Does anyone encounter the same issues?
And if so, and when solved, what was the solution to the problem?

I attached a printscreen of the empty/white firefox screen and the LogMonitor-file.

Does anyone have an idea to the solution?

Thanks

Thinapp Packages Not Ending Lately

$

Hi

Not sure if anyone else got this problem, but lately I see many packages that worked fine before not ending as they should anymore.

Normally it would be some subprocess locking the session, that you uncover by showing Original names in ProcessNameBehaviour and add the kill scripts.

However I don't see any other EXE file locking it, it only the Thinapp package itself and it's own EXE file that creating as a New process instead of killing itself.

Anyone else having issues With this and know how to get around this? My VBS skills is not good enough to come up With a solution.

Normally wouldn't be a huge issue as when they log off the lingering exe would be closed, but in a Citrix Published App scenario it keeps the session open instead of loging off.

Thanks for any help on this.

EDIT: Packaged With 5.2.2 and another app With 5.1.1, same results. Haven't started looking through logs yet, just wanted to ask if anyone have seen the same.

Hi all

Today I tried to package office 2016 (with KMS). But somehow the licensing made some problems.

I tried the guides of 2013 (Guide) and 2010 (Guide) but either didn't help.

Was anyone able to do this successfully (with KMS)?
