Thinapp 5.0.0 can't be installed on Windows 7 SP1 Professional x86

Today I wanted to try out my evaluation copy of TA 5.0.0 on a freshly setup and never before used version of Windows 7 Professional SP1 incl. all updates (x86) - 0614_0311.2013_1835.png

I downloaded the standard Thinapp 5.0.0 Enterprise .exe (VMware-ThinApp-Enterprise-5.0.0-1391583) from VMWare three times to elimiate possible CRC errors, but I wasn't able to manage to get it installed.

The first time I start up Thinapp this is what I get: 0613_0311.2013_1834.png (No matter if I start Thinapp as a normal user or with elevated rights as administrator)

Standard compatibility error - "Reinstall using the recommended settings" or "This program installed correctly"

No instances of Thinapp or anything related to it running in taskmanager.

If I try to start the installation file a second time, I get absolutely nothing.

Since we have no physical Windows 7 machines, I could only try to run the setup on our physical Windows 8.1 machines and there it runs flawlessly... However I can't explain to myself why Thinapp 5.0.0 installation won't start on a virtualized Windows 7.

Any ideas?

Hello,

I have Horizon workspace 1.5 setup in our lab. When I try to sync thinapp applications with workspace, I get the folowing error.

Category: Import

Error: Error importing thinapp package. No exe/dat files.: ThinApp package: Firefox

Recommended actions:

Verify that at least one .exe/.dat file exists in the bin folder of the ThinApp package.

Verify that the package contains the "main data container" file.

I have configured the network share as "Thin-packager.vcloud.com\horizon apps\Adobe Reader X\Adobe Reader X.exe"

There is no bin folder and I have put both .exe and .dat files in the share.

Can somebody please help me with this?

Dear All,

I have a problem when using thinapp to packaged an reader app called "apabi reader", it opened a self defined format .ceb file for reading e-books. This app install an ActiveX control on IE, and use IE to download .ceb file then launching the "Apabi reader" for users to read the .ceb books.

I have packaged the "apabi reader" with thinapp, it could open the .ceb file. But when I try it in IE, browser the e-book and click read, IE it prompt me that "Apabi reader" is not installed. How should i let the IE to know that this app is installed and use thinapped "apabl reader" to open it, please advise, thank you!

Tried to go through the build process and everything appeared to go well however when i try to launch Word or Excel (the only ones i tried) from any computer, even the thinapp computer, I get the following message. "Microsoft Office Standard 2010 configuration dud not complete successfully" And all I can do is close. If I do it on the Thinapp computer after that message i get this one " Microsoft Office Standard 2010 cannot verify teh license for this application. A repair attempt failed or was canceled by the user. The application will shut down." I added the license info from the KB article to the Package.ini file.

I just got done packaging some applications for thinapp and now found out that I needed the msi files

Is there a way to edit the package.ini file and re-run build.bat instead of having to start the process form scratch and select msi in the wizard.

Fingers crossed

ThinAPP with AppSense

$

Has Anybody attempted to use ThinApp captured applications in an AppSense managed environment?

The issue I am having is that using a option within AppSense Environment Manager called Application Personalisation with a ThinApp'd application causes the application to terminate almost immediately on execution. If I blacklist the applicatioin within AEM everything works OK as AppSense is essentially ignoring the app. If I turn on the management of all processes then within AEM then the app crashes and fails to start. This is because the AEM is attempting to intercept reads to the registry and there is obviously some conflict with the app and its communication with the Sandbox and virtual registry files.

I just wondered if there is a setting in the Package.ini that I can enable that makes the application less susceptible to crashing in this environment or better still, allowing AEM to manage the registry settings of the the application

Thanks in advance

Thinapp stuck in 'Pending Install' in View Administrator

$

Hello,

So I've got a ThinApp that I assigned to a desktop in View Administrator, then I un-assigned it for testing.. Now I want to re-assign it but it's status on this VM is 'Pending Install', it's been pending all day now. I've rebooted the VM, made sure that the ThinApp is indeed removed from the VM.

The ThinApp admin guide says for this situation to go to Inventory -> Thinapps, then click the thinapp name, then go to the Desktop tab and click Retry Install, but all 3 of the buttons on that screen are grayed out so I can force removal of the status or reinstall.. So what do I do now??

Thanks!!

ThinApp IE 8 crashing

$

Hello, I have been working on ThinApp-ing IE. ThinApp IE6 and IE7 were pretty straight forward and simple. However, when it came to IE 8, it is a whole different story.

Here are the things I did:

1. I started out with a clean Windows XP, SP3, 32bit, Workgroup, VM.

2. I did all the Express security updates, not the Optionals.

3. Installed ThinApp 4.7.2

4. Pre-Scan

5. Do a windows updates, go to Optional updates.

6. Installed IE 8 from Windows Updates.

7. Open IE 8, change the homepage, uncheck the box so it will not check and see if IE will be the default browser.

8. Close IE

9. Post-Scan, Capture, Build

10. Tested it on Windows 7, 64bit, our production base image.

11. IE 8 opens, but you can only see the outline of the IE, then it closes immediately.

I tried download the offline version of IE 8, failed.

I tried to install Java and/or Flash with the IE, failed.

I tried to update to IE7, PreScan, update to IE 8, failed.

I tried to PreScan, update to IE7, update to IE 8, failed.

I tried to leave all IE 8 setting as default, didn't open it before PostScan, failed.

Is there some sort of log I can check and see what is causing my IE8 crashing?? I did read about the protected mode, but I do not see that anywhere in Internet Options in IE8.

I used the procedure in http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1026674

I am using the latest ThinApp, I think, 4.7.2

Please help!! Thanks!

Windows 8.1, Thinapp 4.7.3 - Flashplayer not working, leads to error 0x000007b

Hey guys,

I'm running Windows 8.1 and Thinapp 4.7.3 on one of our testing machines.

A thinapped version of Firefox (stable channel) and a thinapped version of Flash player (no matter which version - from 11.5 to 11.9 beta all version are affected!) produce an error when displaying any flash content on a website.

See screenshot0621_1309.2013_0800.png

Upon launch of any flash content I get a svchost.exe Error 0x000007b and Firefox hangs and the flash plugin stops working.

Seems as if Thinapp 4.7.3 isn't ready for Windows 8.1

Any ideas or suggestions on what to do?

Excel Plugin and KMS licensing

$

I am trying to ThinApp a plugin for Excel called PowerPivot. I have tried two major approaches; Excel and the plugin virtualized together in a bubble and capturing just the Plugin. In both instances I get the error: "Microsoft Office cannot verify the license for this application. A repair attempt failed or was canceled by the user. The application will now shutdown." We are using a KMS server for our MS licensing.

The bubble version had lots of issues and was huge. When I captured just the plugin it launches and I can see the tab from the plugin before the error pops up so I believe if I can get it to register its license it has a good chance of working.

My process:

I referenced this KB article: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2007144

Copy Office and PowerPivot to Desktop of clean Win7 capture machine.

Disable NIC, Install Office ProPlus 2010.

Stop OfficeSoftwareProtection service.

PRESCAN

Install PowerPivot

POSTSCAN

I tried both WriteCopy isolation and merged isolation.

Add to Package.ini:

[excel.exe]

source=%programfilesdir%\Microsoft Office\Office14\excel.exe

shortcut=PowerPivot.dat

disabled=0

In project folder: Go to %ProgramFilesDir% create "Microsoft Office" folder. Inside that folder create "Office14" folder.

BUILD

It sucks in the excel.exe from the build machine and places it in the bin folder. I feel that the excel.exe is looking in the .dat file registry to find its license so the fact that its already licensed on the image isn't registering with excel.exe. Is there something I can add to the package.ini that will tell excel.exe to look to the real registry for settings? We use a KMS server for Windows licensing. I have tried editing the config.xml file in the Office installation before installing Office on the capture machine to point specifically to our KMS server. That worked when I Thinapp'd Project and Visio standard but didn't work this time.

Environment: Windows 7 desktops linked clones with Office 2010 Pro Plus installed on the Gold image.

Plugin: PowerPivot for Excel.

Capture machine Windows 7 clean

Windows licensing is done with a KMS server.

Thinapp IE7 running on Windows 7

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to Thinapp IE7 (on an XP machine) and ultimately run on a Windows 7 machine. The Thinapp appears to build successfully, but crashes (on Win7) after the initial Thinapp splash screen appears at application execution.

The Thinapp was built using recommendations provided on VMware KB

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1026674

Thinapp 4.7.3 was used to build application

I have also tried using the wow64=0 option within the package.ini with no success

AppSync & AppLink interoperability?

$

Hello,

My users run a Thinstalled program that has various dependencies in the form of AppLinked Thinstall binaries:

Main_Program.exe

Dependencies/Foo.exe

Dependencies/Bar.exe

During normal operation, Foo.exe and Bar.exe are never run by the users, although they are in the RequiredAppLinks section of Main_Program.exe's package.ini.

My question is: how can I get Foo.exe and Bar.exe to update via AppSync? Do Foo.exe and Bar.exe have to be each executed individually, for them to be AppSync'ed?

Thanks

Running Internet Explorer 6 on Vista x64

$

I am unable to get IE6 to run on Vista x64 (with or without UAC enabled) - note that I haven't tried running it on Vista 32-bit. I've tried two different build states from which to package IE6:

The first build was done from a clean install of Windows 2000 Pro SP4 (w/ IE5). I installed IE6 via ie6setup.exe. This build works fine on WinXP SP2 (containing a different local installed version of IE6). However, I get the following error on Vista:

"Executable 'C:\Program Files(x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe' had the following unrecoverable error:

Missing Ordinal C:\Program Files(x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe -> SHLWAPI.dll:241"

It appears to be trying to run the local copy of iexplore.exe.

The second build was done from a clean install of Win XP Pro SP2 (w/ IE6). I uninstalled IE6 (via Components), rebooted, scanned the PC, reinstalled IE6 (via Components), and completed the build. Again, it works fine on the PC on which it was built (w/ the local IE6 uninstalled). When run from Vista, though, I get the following error:

"Cannot find 'http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=76277'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct."

After clicking OK, the error occurs again. After clicking OK on the second one, a basically broken instance of IE7 starts up (it can't even display 'about:blank'. Closing this and starting the local IE7 works find.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Halo 2 and ThinApp

$

I use Windows XP, and I bought Halo 2, hoping that I could use the Halo 2 XP fix to play it on my computer. It worked on 3 of my friends using XP that did the same, so why wouldn't it work on me?

...it didn't.

I decided to turn to VMWare. Having Workstation, I made a VM of Windows Vista Ultimate using a spare copy a friend at work gave me. In 10 minutes I was operating under Windows Vista Ultimate through VMWare. I closed it, used the special commands to enable 3D acceleration with 256MB VRAM (my graphics card is an Asus EN8800GT 512MB). 3D Acceleration didn't work at all. I couldn't even use Aero!

I don't want to dual-boot or install windows vista, because I formatted in January and I don't feel like formatting again.

So I thought of ThinApp. A friend of mine dual boots Vista and XP. I thought of installing Halo 2 there and using thinapp to capture the installation process. But since ThinApp kinda works like VMWare I'm afraid that 3D won't work...

I sent the above to the VMWare team asking wether there was any way to use my Graphics Card's power on VMWare or if ThinApp would do the trick.

I was told to ask here wether anyone has had any luck playing Halo 2 on XP with ThinApp.

Thanks a lot,

Teo
