ThinApp URL lock

$

0

Hello,

I successfully created a IE6 ThinApp to run an older version of Javascript required by our company application. I was wondering if there is a way to lock that ThinApp client so that it can only access one specific URL. We want our employees to use the ThinApp client for opening the company oracle app and nothing else. I am just not sure if that is something that i can do from inside ThinApp or if I need to administrate that from our Active Directory.

Thanks in advance.

Unable to save to a mount point folder?

Hi,

I'm using a NTFS partition (which has no drive letter) which I've mounted into a directory.

It's a 100GB partition on a SSD drive and it's mounted into the following folder:

D:\Users\Highend\Downloads

When I capture an application inside a clean VM (Hyper-V) and copy it to the physical

machine afterwards, the application is unable to write to this specific folder...

The build environment for this application contains an additional folder "%drive_D%

with an ##Attribute.ini file with this content:

[Isolation]

DirectoryIsolationMode=Merged

The application can write to:

D:\Users\Highend

flawlessly and interestingly to

D:\Users\Highend\Downloads\Test

as well.

But trying to write to

D:\Users\Highend\Downloads (the moun point itself)

results in an error message.

Is there any way to configure ThinApp (v5.0.0-1391583) to let the app have

access to this mount point folder?

Thinapp 5 Problem

I am trying to create a few Thinapps of Healthcare apps and running into some issues.  When I start the app after the build i get an error message related to a DLL file that is in the package.  The error message is "MIssing Ordinal C:\adv\app\comdil32.dll ->SHELL32.dll:158"  The DLL is in the appropriate directory.  So, what i did was tried to run the samy app from teh command prompt and teh app launched fine.  What is the difference between the two methods?  Any comments or suggestions are welcome.  Thanks

Visio 2013

Hello,

I have thinapped visio 2013, i followed the online guides.

When start the thinapp on another pc, the activaiton screen popus, wich offcourse make sense with a MAK key.

I do not want this screen to popup, so tried running a launch script (ospp.vbs /act) but within the thinapp the message: 'Error: The Software Protection Platform Service is not installed' appears.  But i can run 'net start osppsvc' and succesfully start/stop the service within my thinapp.

Anyone an idea how to fix this?

Thanks.

Extracting the tvr/tvr.vfhd files

$

Hi All,

I'm trying to write a utility that can see into a VMware thin app container, for the purposes of scanning/auditing. Basically, I'm concerned that users will be able to smuggle all sorts of nefarious content into my network hidden within a ThinApp container.

Examining the packaged format, I think it is a pretty simple task to extract the original tvr files from the ThinApp'd executable. Unfortunately, the format of these files appears to be proprietary and undocumented. Is there open documentation of the format anywhere?

I thought another possibility (although not ideal, as I would like to scan in-place) would be to first extract the files from the ThinApp container, using a supported ThinApp utility... I had a look at vftool.exe, which claims to be a "VMware ThinApp Virtual File System Compiler". This has tantalizing command line options like ListFiles and ExportDir, e.g.:

> vftool regfile.tvr ExportDir output_directory

However, these command lines don't work in the slightest... mocking me with their silence as my ship of hope is dashed on the rocks of robotic despair.

Is there any reasonable way to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Your Runtime License has Expired

I have a customer who downloaded and installed the 60-day Trial of ThinApp... by the 45th day or so, she liked it so much that she had

already virtualized about 3 dozen or so Apps... The License file was, of course, the Trial license...

Well, she just purchased and received her ThinApp "real" License, but not before the Trial one ran out...  So now, every time she launches

a ThinApp'd app, she immediately gets a small screen that says, "License Error:  Your Runtime License Has Expired"... She can only

click "OK", and that's it... Nothing else...

Where can I tell her to go, to input the new Production license file that she has just purchased, so that all her Apps "work" again?

Is she just hosed?  Will she have to re-virtualize all those Apps again?

Thanks.

Windows cannot find javaw.exe when launching thinapp

Thanks for taking the time to help out a ThinApp first timer!

I am trying to ThinApp a program called Infranet Portal 6.5 because of its java dependencies.

After I build the ThinApp, copy the .exe to my desktop and try to run the application I receive the following error:

Windows cannot find 'C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\PORTAL~1\JRE\BIN\javaw.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

It seems that during the software installation the main program files go in the folder: C:\Program Files\Portal Software\CustomerCenter\ and the java files go in the folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Portal Software\JRE\bin

How do I direct the application to look at the javaw.exe without installing it locally on my workstation?

Here are the settings I have used during the ThinApp and I have attached a copy of the package.ini file that I have not made any changes to:

Using ThinApp 4.6

Entry Point chosen: "Customer Center.exe"

Groups Authorized: "Everyone"

Isolation: have tried both "Full write access" and "Restricted write access"

Sandbox: have tried both "user profile" and "same directory as the application"

Inventory name: "Customer Center 6.5"

Project Locations: "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware ThinApp\Captures\Customer Center 6.5"

Package Settings:

* Use one of the entry points: "Customer Center.exe"

* NO separate .DAT

* NO msi generation

* NO compression

Thanks to anyone that can assist me here!

Office Communicator 2007 R2 (outloook integration error) on XP with Office 2010 SP1

$

So I have followed the document http://communities.vmware.com/thread/263969 to package Communicator 2007 R2. All running "tickety boo" except there is a little red blob on the task bar icon showing "Outook Integration Error". As expected the Outlook integration with status updates and the green/amber/red lights next to contacts is not shown...

Now, Microsoft says this is due to your primary SMTP not being the same in both Outlook and Communicator and that you can fix this error by adding the regkey:

KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator

create DWORD DisableEmailComparisonCheck=1

Despite the unlikelyhood of my primary SMTP address being different I have added this key to the project, rebuilt it but the error is still there.

I have then followed MS Method 2 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951644 of adding an adm file to the GPO and editing the "Disable email comparison check for Outlook PIM integration", still no dice.

The VM where I am trying to run this is a View 5 VM with XP SP3, Office 2010 SP1 is installed in the build. (Office 2010 is not thinapp'd)

I have also tested this on Windows 7 machine with Office 2010 installed, same results.

I have also tried changing the below section on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.TXT to "isolation_writecopy" instead of "isolation_full" - no difference.

As can be seen below, the DisableEmailComparisonCheck is also there and set to 1 which in theory should get rid of that error.

isolation_writecopy HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Communicator

  Value=EvalCleanup

Is anyone else experiencing this or can point me in the right direction?

Much appreciated!

MSISTREAM not working

Hello Group,

we are currently running into a issue.

We packaged Adobe Reader X with the MSIStream=1 feature. The compiled MSI is pretty small.

What then happens, that all of the files, including the DAT-File are copied locally. We thought, that only the Entrypoints are copied locally and the bigger Dat-File remains on the Network Share.

Can someone help me the lack in my brain.

Thinapp 4.7.1 Sharepoint Designer 2010 SP1 Licensing Issue

$

Hi,

Package Environment:

Clean Windows 7 German SP1 (32Bit)

Production Environment:

WIndows 7 German SP1 (32Bit)

Office 2010 natively installed

.NET 4 natively installed

After downloading and installing the new Version 4.7.1 I tried to package Sharepoint Designer 2010 SP1 on a Windows 7 32Bit SP1 German language platform.

I followed all the suggested steps like copy the deleted lines into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE text file, and added our KMS server to the config.xml within SharePointDesigner.WW. and all the other things mentioned.

KMS ist available and reachable (ping and rdp tested).

I also made sure that the Office Software Protection Service is stopped before the post scan.

I tried also to install the App-V package from Microsoft and configured the Sharepoint Designer before doing the prescan (offvirt.msi SPD=1).

But I still get the Licensing issue :-(

By the way: Since version 4.6.0 Visio and Project 2010 SP1 are running as thinapps beside a natively installed Office 2010 without any issues (not looking on cross over functions :-)).

It has just worked doing the following steps:

1.) App-V installed and regsitered Visio and Project (OffVirt.msi VISIOPREM=1 PRJPRO=1)

2.) Prescan

3.) Installed Visio/Project with SP1

4.) Start Visio / Project

5.) Stop the Office Software Protection Service

6.) Postscan

=> Both Visio and Project working fine beside the native installed Office 2010!

IE6 and Jinitator 1.1.8.19 not being called when IE6 is open

Hi Guys,

ive decided to post again as i think i have left out some details

At the moment we are running XP Pro SP3 we want to move IE6 and jinitator 1.1.8.19 plugin over to Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 i have packaged IE6 in VMware ThinApp Version 4.7.2-771812 it builds fine but when we try and launch the app on the windows 7 machine ie6 will open but will not call the jinitator plugin and keeps asking for it to be installed.

ive also tried packaging them both seperate and then linking them with in the IE6 package.ini file and still no joy. I have tried installing the .msi and just launching the app from the \bin directory can some one give me a hand please ive been trying and trying and trying on this with no luck.

Ive coppied in the package .ini file just incase you guys can see something wrong since this is the first app ive ever done using this system.

SAP GUI Excel export

$

So I have my SAP LogonPad presented to my Linked Clones with ThinApp and everything is working great except for one thing. When using the export to excel function of reports, the file is being created in the proper location but Excel is not being opened with that file. The user can manually open excel and find the file, but I would really like to have the automation back that exists when everything is native installed. Office is native installed, and the OS is Win 7 x64. I'm wondering if the problem is that a) SAP was captured on Win XP and b) Office was not installed when SAP was captured.

Im wondering, even though it kinda goes against how a ThinApp should be captured, I should capture SAP on the master VM for the Linked Clones?  Office is installed, and the OS is obviously the same, but the drawback would be that this ThinApp capture could only be used on my Linked Clones and no where else.

Anyone have any thoughts or insight for me?

ThinApp Package not using Working Directory

$

I have been attempting to package some of our applications that use config files for settings.  We would like to have the config file external to the ThinApp package but tell the package to use the config file in a folder we specify on our network.  My attempts at trying this have repeatedly failed for numerous packages I have tried to create.  In the package.ini I have the isolation mode set to Merged and WorkingDirectory parameter set to point at our network share but the package always fails.  If I do package the application with config file in the same directory as the .exe the package works fine.  Am I missing something?

Is it possible to capture K-Lite Codec Pack?

I created a package of K-Lite Codec Pack but if a link a player to the package it can not find codecs to play the video files. Why the ThinApp package of K-Lite Codec Pack doesn't work?

Alternative thinapps

Hi,

Just getting started with Thinapp, and I've got what I think is a pretty basic question, but I can't think of a good way to google it.  In my case, about 80% of users need acrobat reader.  The other 20% need full acrobat.   I've got reader on the base image, and I can enable full acrobat for the other users through active directory.  Users entitled to full acrobat get it fine.  However, what I'm finding is and users that are not entitled, and should have reader do not get reader, but instead pdf documents are pointed to the secured full acrobat, which they can't run.  What am I doing wrong?  I'm sure I can have more base images, but I'd like to avoid having too many base images.  I'd prefer to entitle a thinapp to a user instead, if that's possible.

Actually, what I'd prefer is to have acrobat reader in the base image, and only replace it with the acrobat full for authorized, licensed users.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Rich

How to Keep Explorer.exe from Virtualizing

$

Hello VMware Team,

I hope this forum is still active although the good old Thinapp is not really a single package anymore.

Currently I've ran into a problem with Thinapp:

With all my, so far virtualized, packages, the explorer process is also virtualized.
How does this happen you might ask?
I virtualized Dropbox and Firefox (for example), when I double click the DropBox icon, I get a virtualized explorer.exe and not the one from my actual computer.

Now with DropBox this isn't really a problem, but with Firefox it is.
Whenever I download something with Firefox and I execute the download from within Firefox, the download will open virtualized.

If the download is an installation package for whatever software, the software will get installed into the sandbox (somehow).

What am I doing wrong? Is this default behavior?
How do I work around this?

Thanks in advance for the information!

Issue with VB6 using ThinApp'd Access 97 using SHELL

$

Hi,

We are piloting a solution of ThinApp'ing our Access 97 - All is well with ThinApp Access 97 running on its own, we are able to open DB's, run Macro's , printing , edit , Save - no issues...  but the problem we discovered is in a scenario where,

Operating system: Windows 7 (64 bit)

All these run in 32 bit process..

1) The front end was written using VB 6

2) VB6 app interacts with a MDB file - no issues

3) There is a piece of reporting code in VB 6 which

  • Opens Access ( can see my ThinApp'd Access launching) - this is done via a SHELL command within VB6
  • VB6 app then interacts with this instance of ThinApp'd Access  by issuing commands  like inserting / querying data - not an issue
  • It then fires a report which should pick up the default printer and present with Printer Dialogue - Issue lies here - it just doesn't do anything..
    • Bear in mind that if I launch ThinApp'd Access 97 on its own - I am able to do what I need to - can see printers - can print....no issues

Suprisingly, this features work if I install Access 97 (not ThinApp'd version) - though my application still interacts with ThinApp'd Access...

Tried all sorts of debugging techniques, like Process Monitor, traces - but no joy..

Would seriously appreciate any help which might help us get over this issue...

Regards,

Nav
