SAP Business One

Curious to know if anyone has sucessfully gotten SAP B1 working with addons running.  I've tried every variation on the install and am having troubles.  B1 itself runs smoothly, but any addons increase the time to perform operations between 70%-130%.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

error building ThinApp Sandbox

I am evaluating ThinApp and am not very impressed so far.  I cannot build my first Sandbox.  I get the following error:

"SandboxName cannot contain '' or non-filesystem characters"

I am using a simple one-word file name like "test.msi" for my Sandbox, so this is clearly not the issue.  If I am unable to evaluate this product, then I guess that I'll just stick with the my current virtualization solution...

Any ideas?

FYI - ThinApp 4.0.1 can wrap Warcraft 3

As a fun project I tried to ThinApp Warcraft 3 to a USB stick because I wanted to play through the entire campaign again.  It amazingly pulled everything together fine.

From a fresh XP SP 2 virtual machine, I ran setup/capture ... installed WC3, Frozen Throne Expansion, did the battle.net updates and finalized the package with fast compression to my USB hard Drive.

It packaged just fine the first time through, runs like a champ.

ThinApp SQL Server 2005 Express

I am trying to ThinApp Sql Server 2005 SP 2, but so far have not had success.

I've followed the suggestions in the following links, and the database works fine on my clean PC, but I get errors when I try to run the ThinApp on other machines.

For testing, I am starting with a clean copy of 32-bit Windows XP with SP3 and all updates installed (host system is XP x64). I start the ThinApp capture and then run a custom installer that installs SQL Server 2005 Express SP2 on the computer and creates a server instance called SQLEXPRESS_CQSG2 with an sa account and password.

I then install the SQL Server Management Studio SP2 and create the ThinApp using all the defaults including merged isolation mode.

When I attempt to run the management studio on a Windows XP 32-bit box, it starts up but cannot connect to the server instance:

http://communities.vmware.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/4852/SqlServerError.JPG

I checked, and the server instance does allow remote connections. I also get connection errors when I try to run the Configuration Manager and the Surface Area Configuration program. Also, attempting to connect to the database using the Native Client ADO provider fails with a connection string (Provider=SQLNCLI;Server=.\SQLEXPRESS_CQSG2;Uid=sa;Pwd=xyzzy) that works fine in a non-ThinApp environment.

I checked the log file in C:\Documents and Settings\Fred\Application Data\Thinstall\Microsoft SQL Server 2005\%ProgramFilesDir%\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\LOG\ERRORLOG and it contains:

Using cmd.exe in the ThinApp, I checked and the mssqlsystemresource.mdf file does exist when I CD to c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\DATA\ and do a DIR.

Thanks to evilone's help, starcraft and Broodwar (and Insurrection) worked after updating battlenet. However, I could not play battlenet. It gave an error:

"Battle.net was unable to properly identify your application version..."

Here are the minimum files required to play the campaign.

I've split them up and linked them using "OptionalAppLinks=*.exe"

compression = fast

--

Starcraft.exe (75.28mb)

maps\

Local.dll

Smackw32.dll

StarCraft.exe

StarDat.mpq

battle.snp

patch_rt.mpq

standard.snp

storm.dll

Starcraft Campaign Editor.exe (1.1mb)

EditLocal.dll

SEditENU.loc

StarEdit.exe

Brood War.exe (40.25mb)

maps\

BrooDat.mpq

StarCraft.exe

Insurrection.exe (100.4mb)

It be great if optionalapplinks can also detect iso files as virtual cdrom. Then there's no need to mount the iso file first using 3rd party tools.

Loading .dll

hi

does ThinApp have problems loading a huge ammount of dll's?

i captured a programm from siemens called simatic. and it always crashed on startup.

if i start the programm a second time you can see the popup with "loading dll" an the name of the dll

which thinapp is loading. if i add the dll to "ExternalDLLs"  which thinapp is loading  while the programm crashes

and rebuild it. it crash on an other dll. if i dont do that it will crash always on the same dll.

the problem is that the programm use ~2000 dlls so i hardly can at all the dlls into the package.ini.

maybe someone can give me a hint about that?

Adobe Acrobat - "There was an error opening this document. The file cannot be found"

Guys,

I have a virtual layer for Adobe Flash player, with an entry point of Internet Explorer. Outside of this, we have used Thinreg to associate pdf files with a Thinapp'd copy of the Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 (Using the allusers switch). What we find is that when trying to open pdf files from the internet, Acrobat Reader loads then presents the error "There was an error opening this document. The File cannot be found". If we save the file and open it works fine.

I'm positive this is a isolation issue somewhere in the Acrobat Reader layer config, but have not been able to track it down. Presumably the issue is the Acorbat layer is not looking outside of itself for the temporary internet folder which contains the pdf IE has cached?

Anyone come across something similar and has a fix?

RemoveSandboxOnExit problem

$

I have just upgraded from ThinApp 4.02 to the latest version 4.03.

It seems that with this new version, the sandbox tends to stay on the system even if I set "RemoveSandboxOnExit =1" in the package.ini file.  My application is using .net 3.5, and those assembly files besides other things stay in the sandbox after the application exits.

Does anybody experience the same behavior?  Anything I could do to make sure the sandbox is cleaned upon exit?

Thanks.

Thinapp + local installed program

New to ThinApp but heres what I got so far:

We have a rather large program installed on numerous PC's that needs to be updated every week or so.  Within this program, it sends parameters to a locally installed scanning program which in turns uses a locally installed scanner driver.  I've got our large program thinapped to run off a network share, lauch the scanning program, and work fine; but when you try lauching the scanning utility for the 2nd time (never closing the thinapp) the locally installed scanning program errors citing it can't load the scanner driver.  I did a merged isolation with sandbox on the local user PC.  In the sandbox, thinapp brings files for both the scanning program and scanner driver in.

It seems that once thinapp brings the files into the sandbox and uses them once, they no longer work again unless I close the thinapp, delete the sandbox, and re-launch the thinapp.  I truly believe thinapp is where we need go as far as application support but won't get it in the budget till this one works.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

64 Bit ThinApp apps on XP64?

$

We are beginning to set up our View (VDI) environment, and are trying to determine the best strategy for exercising ThinApp...

In the "physical" world, we are an XP64 shop since several of our CAD/Engineering apps require significant memory (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, MATLAB, etc...) only available on the 64 Bit OS. This requirement would spill over into our View implementation.

I spent a couple of days trying to ThinApp MATLAB (64 Bit) unsuccessfully before I took a closer look at the System Requirements for ThinApp:

ThinApp does not support the following operating systems and applications:

16-bit or non-x86 platforms such as Windows CE 64-bit applications running on 32-bit or 64-bit Windows operating systems 16-bit applications running on 64-bit Windows operating systems

My boss said that he has talked to VMWare reps who claim that 64 Bit apps CAN be configured to work on XP64 (with a little bit of work)...

Has anyone successfully deployed a 64 Bit app on XP64 using ThinApp?

Thanks,

Eric

can you upgrade an old thinapp to thinapp 4.0.4

I have some apps I did on an older version of thin app..

so they dont work on windows 7. I no longer have the package to just re compile, So Id have to repackage again.

There was mention at vmworld this year of having a tool to upgrade the older thin apps to the new version of thinapp that would

be windows 7 compatible.

Any one know of this tool or how I can take an older thinapp package and upgrade it to 4.0.4.xx and hopefully get it working on win 7 without having to repackage the app!

cheers

I've seen this packaged before with ThinApp so it can be done but there are some issues with the one I have seen so I need to check before I consider doing this myself.

1 -  The packaged version isnt my licenced version so I'd rather not use it anyway - I have a licence myself and would want to package my own licensed copy

2  - The packaged version I've seen doesnt work under W7 (as with many apps) but I understand this can be fixed by using the latest ThinApp - obviously he did his for XP and with earlier Thinapp

3 - The version I've seen loads 3 DLL files (LocalizedGraphics.dll, MFC80ENU.dll and msvcp80.dll). I have no idea why but any version my friend has built with ThinApp won't work so we assume there is some trick to load those 3 DLLs. The "working on XP" package has a message about loading those 3 DLLs. How does it do that? The DLLs sit in the normal VRD install directory so I would assume would be packaged as normal but they are not?

Any ideas? Don't want to shell out for my own ThinApp without knowing it can be used for my application(s).

ThinApps fails to start - corrupt virtual registry

$

Since updating all our apps to ThinApp v4.0.4 packages we've been getting problems where suddenly random applications fails to load. They start the splash screen and then hang.

Only way for us to get it working again is to kill the process, and then in the %AppData%\Thinstall\APPLICATION folder delete the registry.* and merge.* files (except the backup) and rename the registry.tvr.backup file to registry.rw.tvr.

Then it works again...

Anyone else experienced similar crashes? All apps were captured with 4.0.3 and then rebuilt with 4.0.4 on Windows XP SP3 (and running on Windows XP SP3 aswell). Since it's random it's a bit hard for me to debug - but I'm in the process now of aquiring a "failed" appdata-container for one such application.

Hi all,

Just having some trouble creating a thinapp of some ms-dos programs. The process i used is no different from a regular app. I go through the pre-scan then copy the necessary files to the pc and create shortcuts to the desktop and then do the post scan. From what I can tell the capture, captures the files files I copied to the PC and then I create the thinapp package. Once I do that when i try to run the thinapp i get an error

filename.pif is not a valid win32 application. any help is appriciated.

Problem virtualising SolidWorks-2010-SP4

$

Hello,

We've captured the application SolidWorks-2010-SP4 using thinapp versions 4.6.0 and 4.5.0 on a clean

Win XP SP3 PC, a clean Win XP SP2 VM and a clean Windows 7 VM. All the prerequisites (.net 3.0 etc.)

are in the package. During the capturing and building on both OS's, Thinapp produced no errors.

I start the solidworks-2010.exe after building, but no mater what I try SolidWorks doesn't start and no

error messages are shown.

Then We've captured the application SolidWorks-2010-SP4 using thinapp version 4.0.0.2 on a clean

Win XP SP2 VM.During the capturing and building, Thinapp produced no errors. When i start SolidWorks-2010.exe it work on WinXP-Sp2 normally.

In order to use the last built (captured using thinapp-4.0.0.2) on Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit, I have rebuilt and relinked it using

Thinapp 4.5.0 and 4.6.0. Now, I start the solidworks-2010.exe, but no mater what I try SolidWorks-2010.exe  doesn't start and no

error messages are shown.

Thus the built of Solidworks-2010-SP4 worked alone using thinapp-4.0.0.2 on Windows XP, but this version of thinapp doesn't support Windows 7.

Can anyone help us ?

Getting error RelaunchUsingCreateProcess::CreateProcess failed when running a ThinApp in Vista

$

0

Hi all,

I've ThinApped an application in ThinApp 4.5 on a clean XP SP3 build and it runs perfectly on XP. The problem comes when running it on Vista; I get the error message "RelaunchUsingCreateProcess::CreateProcess failed ". I've tried ThinApping it on Vista and get the same error message running on Vista and a different error message when running on XP. I'm not concerned about it not running on XP as backward compatibility isn't strictly supported but I thought I'd try it just in case. I've also tried ThinApping it in 4.6 but get the same results. The package is linked to two other packages but I don't think that's where the problem lies as the error message refers to the executable of the main package.

I haven't been able to find much about the error apart from this post that seems to suggest it's a bug in ThinApp related to memory. The author's solve was to amend the exe of the app in question to address the memory issue. Unfortunately I don't have that luxury.

Does anyone know any more about this bug? Is there any way of solving the issue? Is it likely to be addressed in a future release?

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks!

Script to kill process in task manager

$

Hello,

I have a problem with a application that I have thinapped, when the user exits the program it remains running in task manager.

Then when the user tries to re-launch the program at a later time they recieve an error message that it is already running.

I am trying to create a kill.vbs script that will terminate the process after the user closes the program but I am having some difficulties getting results.

I have tried some different examples and functions found on the web and on here but the processes still seem to stay running.

Is there a way to determine if the script is executing correctly ?

I have been using the below script within different functions (OnFirstParentExit etc... )

Am I correct in placing this code in a 'kill.vbs' file and saving it to the root folder ?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Set colProcessList = objWMIService.ExecQuery _

For Each objProcess in colProcessList

Autocad 2008 on Windows 7 - Problem with "standard user"

$

Hello,

After strugling a bit, i finally made a portable autocad 2008 for windows 7. The problem is that only work with the administrator user (tested on several pcs). When i try with a standard user always gave the same problem: appHangb1 error.

This are the Steps made:

Virtualization of Windows 7 Ultimate with Parallels in Macbook Pro

Instalation of ThinApp 4.6

PreScan with ThinApp

Instalation of Autocad 2008

Autocad 2008 Activation

Autocad service Pack SP1 Instalation: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=10035892&linkID=9240618

Hotfix - Autodesk Activation Update: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=5620053&linkID=9240618

Copy Enu Dirs in "c:/Users/Administrator/Appdata/LOCAL/autodesk..." and "c:/Users/Administrator/Appdata/ROAMING/autodesk..." in a new "Setting" directory in autocad instalation dir: c:/Program Files/Autocad 2008/Settings"

Change al "User Paths" from Local and Roaming dirs to paths in new folder:  "c:/Program files/Autocad 2008/Settings"  (in Tools-Options-File tab)

Change autocad2008.cfg path (in Tools-Options-File tab-Help and miscellanius files names-Configuration File). Here, you cannot change de file path, you must change setting the ACADCFG enviroment variable:

on Autocad command Line write: (setenv "ACADCFG" "c:/Program files/Autocad 2008/Settings/enu/autocad2008.cfg")

PostScan Tof ThinApp

After creating the project: remove OLEAUT32.DLL from %SYSTEMSYSTEM%

Build Project

After all this the portable aplication runs on several pcs with windows 7, but only as an administrator. When i try with the Standard User, always gave me the same problem: The program hang, and if you see the error always sat "AppHangB1"

Someone could help me?? I dont know what im doing wrong, and i need urgently a portable Autocad in Windows 7. please.....
