Firefox3 error (RelaunchUsingCreateProcess::CreateProcess failed)

On XP-sp2 I've had success with Firefox 2.  But when I try to ThinApp Firefox3 I get an error when I launch it:

RelaunchUsingCreateProcess::CreateProcess failed

I have even tried Thinstall v3.382.  Also I've tried various things such as ChildProcess "External".   I'm not sure what this error relates to, when I googled the error, I see a couple of references to Vista, but this is XP-Sp2.

Any thoughts?

Your Runtime License has Expired

I have a customer who downloaded and installed the 60-day Trial of ThinApp... by the 45th day or so, she liked it so much that she had

already virtualized about 3 dozen or so Apps... The License file was, of course, the Trial license...

Well, she just purchased and received her ThinApp "real" License, but not before the Trial one ran out...  So now, every time she launches

a ThinApp'd app, she immediately gets a small screen that says, "License Error:  Your Runtime License Has Expired"... She can only

click "OK", and that's it... Nothing else...

Where can I tell her to go, to input the new Production license file that she has just purchased, so that all her Apps "work" again?

Is she just hosed?  Will she have to re-virtualize all those Apps again?

Thanks.

ThinApp data security questions

Securing corporate data comes up in discussions when talking about installing packaged 3rd party apps to user’s laptops and home computers.

I haven't used ThinApp yet - but I don't see anything in the documentation that addresses issue #1...

1. User data encryption?

      a. Is user data encryption on the roadmap anytime soon?  (For the files stored in the virtualized directory structure)…

      b. If so, is there anything on that roadmap for securely handling data that gets swapped through the Pagefile?

2. Has anyone successfully packaged encryption applications like TrueCrypt or PGP Desktop Storage?  (Obviously, using their file encryption capabilities - Not their disk partition encryption)

Thanks in advance,

Bruce

Concise description of isolation modes

I am finding the documentation for ThinApp on isolation modes is a little confusing and seems a tad incomplete. I wanted to confirm on my understanding of isolation modes and fill in some gaps in my understanding as they relate to packages, the registry, and file folders.

Scope: Am I correct that all of the isolation modes (Full, Merged, and WriteCopy) can all be used in all of these places, and if not, which can be used where?

Package.ini - To set the defaults when not specified on the folder or registry key.

K_KEY.txt files* - For each registry key. Keys not specified default to ??? isolation, does it default to the package.ini setting?

##Attributes.ini files - For each folder inthe sandbox - Default to parent directory settings if not specified. Default to package.ini settings if not specified for top level folder?

Usage: Can you please confirm my understanding of each of the isolation modes and that they are applied the same way for both the registry and folders?

Full: Read and write from the sandbox only, do not access resources outside the virtual bubble for this item.

WriteCopy: Attempt reads from sandbox, but fall-back to the host machine if a key or folder doesn't exist. All writes go to the sandbox only.

Merged: Read from the sandbox if an entry is available, but fall-back to the host machine if a key or folder doesn't exist. No idea on the logic for writes.

Cisco Jabber Client 9.0.x ThinApp Issues

I am currently having an issue with Cisco Jabber Client ThinApp running on Windows 7 remembering the login credentials on startup.

BACKGROUND:

We are in the process of updating our VDI environment to Windows 7. Our current environment is running Windows XP SP3 in a non-persistent configuration.  Initially I built the thinapp using ThinApp Version 4.7 on a clean Windows XP VM.  The ThinApp works fine under Windows XP but for some reason on Windows 7 it refuses to remember the login information from session to session.  If I open it, log in, exit and then relaunch it remembers it in the same session.

I have also installed Jabber on the Parent VM and it has the same issue.

I am just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue?  Is anyone else using the Cisco Jabber Client?

Thanks,

Jon

iTunes 11 with ThinApp problem?

Anyone experiencing problems ThinApp'ing the newly release iTunes 11 (32-bit)? I am unable to get a build that works. The message about the DVD/CD driver missing messages appear, even though I had already used the trick to import the CD/DVD driver registry into the build. In addition, .exe will NOT close properly even when app is truly exited. The only way is to force quite it from Task Manager. Tried in Vista SP2 and Windows 7 SP1.

Office 2013; capture on Windows 7, deploy on Windows 8 - activation error

Hey guys,

I tried to capture Office 2013 Pro Plus on Windows 7 SP1 x86, using TA 4.7.3 and deploy on Windows 8 x64

I followed every available instruction thats out there for Office 2010, which work great when captured on WIndows XP and deployed on Windows 7 or 8.

However none of them seem to work for Office 2013 and Windows 8 - as soon as I start an application Office tells me that activation isn't possible and quits. So pretty much the same thing that happens when you dont capture Office 2010 properly.

I really would ask VMWare to come up with a tutorial to deploy Office 2013 on Windows 8.

Did anybody try and succeed so far?

thanks

Frank

Accessing the local registry from a ThinApp bubble

$

Hi,

We're in the middle of packaging Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 with thinapp so one of our business lines can use it under Windows 7.  The reason we're using reader 5.0 is that the business line is relying heavily on Acrobat indexes and 5.0 is the last version to support it. To access the index list, the app is relying on registry values in the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\5.0\Search\cIndexes\cIndex" key.  We have about 50 users using it, and none of them uses the same index list. Since the list tops at 256 indexes, we cannot put all indexes in the same bubble.

So far, it will only fetch them if we put the information inside the thinapp registry.

Since we wanted to avoid making 50 bubbles, we're trying to have the bubble open the host registry to fetch this information.  What we first tried was to change the concerned keys in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER.txt file from "isolation_writecopy" to "isolation_merged", but it didn't work.  We then tried to remove the file, thus letting the application access the registry in writecopy mode, but that didn't work either.  We thought it might be because the keys are not in the Wow6432 node, but we have the same problem with the Thinapp running inside of Windows XP.

Is there something we're missing?

To help you help us, I provided the HKEY_CURRENT_USER.txt made by default by thinapp, and a .reg file containing an example of the registries specific to one of our 50 users.

Thank you in advance.

Google Chrome 28.0.XXXX.YY Not Responding....most of the time.

Thinapp Version 4.7.3

Build System:  Windows 7 32bit

Client systems Windows 7 32bit

Has anyone else had trouble thinapping the Latest Google Chrome?  I am having inconsistent results on launch.

Ultimately, I need a Google Chrome build with an app link to Java 7.25.  However, I cant seem to reliably get vanilla Chrome to launch everytime.

Symptom: (majority of the time when launched)  I launch the program and it thinks for about 2 seconds, then starts to not respond (the gray circle on the first tab freezes, then about 30seconds later, or when I click on the window the title Bar flips to not responding)  I can still kill the window with the red X and most times everything closes in Task Manager (no stray google chrome processes....if there is, I kill those).

Regardless, if it closes everything or there is a stray process, It will usually present the same behavior (9/10 times).  Every now and then, I *DO* get it to launch and can hit several different websites with no issues.  If I close the program (and verify that all Chrome Processes are dead) and relaunch, it may, or may not work again.

I'm going to attempt to try to outline my troubleshooting process below.  Take note, that I have tried adding or not adding the various things below.  Most all present the behavior described above and in other articles.

Before you ask.

Yes I have see some of the othere posts regarding Chrome.  Including the PDF for getting 20 to work.

Using Merged Isolation Mode (I assume, as that I think that is the default in the build process)

My Package.INI I add:

1)  SetVirtualModuleFileNameInPeb=1

I have added it to General Parameters as both the very first line and the very last line under General Parameters.

2)  Additionally, under [Google Chrome.exe] I may add the lines to connect to the Java applink.

3)  As well as CommandLine=%ProgramFilesDir%\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe --no-sandbox --disable-flash-sandbox.

4)  I've used both/either google chrome. exe and just chrome.exe as the entry point.  I let it use a .DAT and have also tried using one of the entry points as the thinapp.

Nothing is reliably changing the build behavior.

Right now, I'm not adding anything fancy.  So I'm not adding the CommandLine (#3 above), or trying to applink.  Just trying to get a vanilla Chrome to work with the SetVirtual<blahblah> added to general parameters as the only edit on the .INI

I have also tried just adding to the desktop short cuts (post build and install:  --no-sandbox --disable-flash-sandbox

When I add those, to the end of the target box on the shortcuts, chrome tends to run the very first time, after doing that.  Guaranteed to run exactly ONCE.  After that, it is inconsistent.  I do notice that if I EVER click the yellow box saying chrome turned off the sandbox the next open, (and subsequent few) ALWAYS fails (10/10).  If i never close the yellow box, it just usually fails (7/10 times).  THen behavior returns to failing 9/10 times when opening the Chrome THinapp

I may have missed a few of the previously recommended tips.  I'm pretty sure I have tried nearly every combonationi can think of.

I reliably built a chrome thinapp a few months ago following the adding of SetVirtualModule in the package.ini.  However that capture and build is long gone, and I had not yet successfully attempted to build an applink to Java.

What Am I missing?

OptionalAppLinks fails when using mixed 32/64 applications into a same package

$

Hi,

I have a issue that can be easily reproduced.

1. launch a 32bit application (app_1) that use optionalApplinks

2. launch a 64bit application (app64_1) from the same ThinApp Application

==> it doesn't see any file provided by the optionalAppLinks

3. launch a 32bit child process from the app_1

==> it doesn't see any file provided by the optionalAppLinks

3. launch a 64bit child process from the app64_1

==> it doesn't see any file provided by the optionalAppLinks

Now, other test :

1. launch a 32bit application (app_1) that use optionalApplinks

2. launch a 32bit child process from the app_1

==> Everything is fine, the cild process can see all files that come with the dependency (optionalApplinks)

3. launch a 64bit application (app64_1) from the same ThinApp Application

4. launch a second 32bit child process from the app_1

==> it doesn't see any file provided by the optionalAppLinks

it is exactly the same if you start first the 64 bits application

I have joined sample project that shows the issue : (bug or misconfiguration ?)

on a 64bit windows OS :

     unzip OPTIONAL_ISSUE.zip

launch Build_testApp.cmd ==> it will create a new directory TEST_APP/

==> cmd.exe is the 32bits cmd  (the root package only contains the file c:\main_appli.txt)

==> cmd64.exe is the 64bits cmd   (the root package only contains the file c:\main_appli.txt)

into  TEST_APP/plugins :

     PLUGIN1.dat provides the file C:\PLUGIN1.txt

     PLUGIN2.dat provides the file C:\PLUGIN2.txt

----->  test to check if files from plugins are available : Dir c:\

Does anybody have the clue ?

Thank you

How to change the sandbox %AppData% folder structure and name?

Office 2013 ThinAPP - No Internet Connection

$

I appreciate there is already a discussion for Office 2013 but wanted to start a new thread as this is a different query.

I've followed the standard KB for Office 2013 with ThinAPP 5.1 which has worked fine. Office activates sucessfuly against our KMS server and performance is fine. However, none of the office applocations claim to have access to the internet, and under the 'account' option it shows 'No Internet Connection'. I can see this biting us when we roll out a pilot deployment and users try to access web based clipart and other online features.

Has anyone else come across this, or have a fix? I've created the package a few times and in different packaging VMs but get the same result.

Many Thanks

Pete

ThinApp Project 2013

Dear community,

We're trying (hard) to make a ThinApp Package of Microsoft Project 2013. We want it to work on an image where Office 2013 is installed (master).

We've tried it many times but we're always block by the production activation (No licence can be found, bla bla and then the program closed). We already have followed plenty of tutorials but with no success:

Re: Thinapp Visio 2013 / Project 2013

VMware KB: Packaging guide for ThinApp 5.x and Microsoft Office 2013

Last tries were done like that:

1) Copy Project install folder (French and German) to ThinApp machine

2) Configure config.xml file with

     - "Accept EULA" -> YES

     - MAK Key + Auto activation

3) Disconnect NIC adapter

4) Prescan

5) Install software with command line setup.exe /config prjww.std\config.xml (for both languages)

6) Stop osppsvc.exe

7) Launch application once (already tried without starting the app)

8) Postcan

9) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USERS modifcations

If anyone has any clues, it will be welcomed.

-Jacob

Problem with long filenames in packaging processes

Hi,

I have a quick question regarding packaging processes of Thinapps. I'm sure others have the same issues too, but it is not much info on it on the interweb.

certain application have alot of subfolders in program files etc. when the developers made the application they did not go over the 255 NTFS filename limit. but when working with the virtual filesystem we get additional subfolders. This makes it difficult to move project folders etc.

Does any have some fix on this issue other than using subst command everytime for each folder?

dll comctl32 error when packaging think-cell

I try to package think-cell (www.think-cell.com) but the 'show datasheet option' does not work.

think-cell is an add-in for Powerpoint to easily create charts.

It has to call Excel to show a modal form. The following error occurs.

thinkcell error.PNG

Toegang geweigerd is Dutch for Access denied.

When I open Excel (also has the plugin) and insert an chart into Powerpoint from Excel it works well and also gets back to Excel when click 'open datasheet'.

I tried to include the DLL in the package, calling the dll in the package.ini, first opening Excel and numerous other stuff (tried everything on Google) but nothing seems to be working..

Please help me on this one...

Hi.

Thinapped Adobe Acrobat X (XI) freezes on listing pdf file.

This happens only with ver. 5.1. Acrobat thinapped with ver. 5.0 and 5.0.1 works fine.

Pdf file has 400 pages (~20 Mb).

Maybe someone else faced a similar problem?

almost double sized package..

hi to everyone,

I'm facing a problem with the size of the created package with thinapp.

If I check the size of the folders of a captured application , and the size of the package, I see that the package is almost the double size!!

why is that?

any other app (i.e.  spoon studio, portable-apps etc) creates a package of tha same size (without compression) with the installed app.

Is there any setting or a hidden directory included in the package and makes it so big?

Thank you
