SPSS 22 Thinapp very slow

$

Hello Thinapp community,

I'm trying to create a Thinapp package for IBM SPSS 22. The package works but is very slow. Starting the program takes about 3 minutes and working in SPSS is very slow, especially with large files.

We use VMWare View desktops with Windows 7, 32 bit, linked clones, non persistent.

When I install SPSS directly on a View desktop it works fine, so the problem seems to be in the Thinapp package.

Anyone has any experience with this? Or maybe an idea what the problem may be?

With other Thinapp packages we don't experience this problem.

Thanks in advance.

ThinApp Applications which also install MS Office Addins/Plugins

Help Needed!!!

I am using VMware ThinApp version 5.1 and I am trying to ThinApp a few applications that also install MS Office Addins/Plugins.  The software I am trying to ThinApp includes but is not limited to DYMO Label Software and Adobe Pro 11.

I can ThinApp and deploy the application with no issues but the Addins which were captured during the ThinApp process are missing when I start Word, Excel, Outlook etc.

I know you can create custom entry points for Word, Excel, Outlook etc but this then stops our natively installed addins (like Enterprise Vault) from loading.

So this question is more of a general question of how do you make the Office Addins available when the ThinApp Application is deployed?

Our Setup is as below:

Capture machine:

     Virtual Machine

     Windows 7 Enterprise

     VMware ThinApp Version 5.1

Have tried capture process with and without Office 2010 installed

ThinApp being deployed on:

     Virtual Linked Clone Desktops

     Office 2010 natively installed.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

ThinApp Filezilla client doesn't open and hits 99% CPU

I am trying to ThinApp the FileZilla client (FileZilla_3.11.0.1_win32-setup) and no matter what I do it does not want to work. I install it on my capture machine and everything runs fine native. No matter what order I do things (run post capture scan before opening app for first time/after app opened) all that happens are two filezilla.exe processes appear and one sits there taking 99% CPU most of the time. The GUI never appears and I have to end the process. This happens on both the original capture VM and my actuall VDI.

Any idea what I could do to try and resolve this? It was supposed to be a nice simple capture, but seems nothing like that.

Thanks,

Adam

Error opening link in package

HI folks,

I'm relatively new to ThinApp but I'm trying to package IE8 and link it to another package that uses Java 1.7 for some of our internal sites.  I've gotten this mostly working successful however I've encountered a problem launching a link in our app.

I've narrowed it down to the IE8 package.  When I click on the link it's supposed to open a new page into another app and pass some information along.  It looks like it's using javascript and calling WshShell to open the new page.  Whenever I try this I get 'ClassFactory cannot supply requested class'

Anybody have any clue what dll I need to include to make this work?

thinapps and horizon view 6.2 agent

I have a handful of thinapps that when launched, close immediately when run on a virtual desktop with the Horizon View 6.2 agent.

If I launch these apps on a desktop that has the 6.1 agent I don't have any problems.

Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions on this?

Thanks,

Don

SAS 9.2 with Enterprise Miner 6.1

Anyone here who has packaged SAS 9.2 with Enterprise Miner 6.1.

I have packaged the application but only SAS and Enterprise Guide work. The Enterprise Miner is a critical component which is required in the install.

The recommended SAS version of java client is packaged with the application but itdoes not work.

The application uses CMD prompt to start some services and I have created these as entry points including Java. Thinapp creates executable out of these files (eg: the file: AnalyticsPlatform.bat start is now Analytics Platform Server - Start.exe

Any recommendations or suggestions will be highly appreciated.

MSI error 110 - files not found in c:\windows\installers but streaming entry points work ok

I'm packaging an app called SAS 9.3

When I've come to install from the MSI I get an error stating 'internal error 110...msiname'. Launching via entry points is fine.

When installing msi with a verbose log generated it states..

There are indeed a series of msi's that exist in c:\windows\installer and they have been included in the Thinapp, but it seems these files are dynamically named and so 4c1ab3.msi does not exist! For example I just tried to install the msi again on the same machine and the log now states this..(everytime I try to install it tries to locate a different msi name)

MSI (s) (78:E4) [16:02:36:655]: Note: 1: 1310 2: 131 3: C:\Windows\Installer\88982c.msi

The system cannot open the device or file specified.

Any pointers welcome...this isn't specific to just this app, I had the same problem with Adobe CS6 and that was convieniently solved by excluding Acrobat from the package. I don't have the option to remove anything else from this package. I should perhaps mention that it is a 4.1GB MSI and a 4.2GB DAT in case it's relevant, but I'm using msiexec v5 on Windows 7 SP1.

DEP Error Thin App 5.1

.Hi

Visio 2013 app works well until a large multi page Visio diagram is opened If you click print preview it crashes with a StackHash_d6cf error which gives an error message of a fault in an unknown module.

Reading round the subject it appears it is a DEP issue. If I turn DEP off completely on a test desktop it work fine for large Visio file.

I do not want to do that in a live environment. In Thinapp 4.7 it suggests adding AddPageExecutionPermission=1 to remove DEP for the package. I notice in the 5x documentation that is no longer listed as a parameter. I added it and rebuilt but the error is still there is the option valid in Thinapp 5 or is there an alternative ?

ThinApp Microsoft Office 365 Elements (Visio and Project)

Hi,

I have tried many times to thinapp visio and project (part of Microsoft office 365 click-to-run version). I have captured them on both machine that has got Office 365 click-to-run installed and with the one that had no office installed. Vision and Project are not deployed on our build image (Gold image) and this will need to be packaged so we can delopy them to the some selected users. Has anyone managed to thinapp any of Office 365 products.

After capturing, It runs only in the task manager for some few seconds and goes off with not coming up.

Many Thanks

Application loses focus

Hi,

Just a quick question...

I have a ThinApp with a script. The script runs fine, but then once the script has finished, the login box for the application appears at the back of any other open windows. How do I bring the application login box to the front, so that as soon as the script completes, the user can login? I know that in my organisation, users are going to struggle to notice that the login box has moved to the back and will complain.

TIA

Not capturing after reboot

Hi,

I have an application which requires a reboot in between the installation of the application, so I start the Setup capture, start the installation, reboot and then after coming back from the reboot, the application installation starts immediately, before the setup capture continue screen appears. Is there anything that can be done to make sure the setup capture continues before the installation continues after the reboot? Or is there a way of making the application pause, to let the setup capture continue window appear so that I can click continue, before the application installation can finish off?

TIA

Unable to load required Type Library C:\Program Files\ThinstallPlugins\scripting.dll

Hi all,

I'm a newby for ThinApp, and I'm having this problem with a package, maybe someone could help with.

One of my packages runs perfectly as it is, but I need to add a vbs script to have it do something before the application starts. However, as soon as I add ANY script to the package and rebuild, I get this error on startup of the application:

Scripting System:

Unable to load required Type Library

C:\Program Files\ThininstallPlugins\scripting.dll

Error Code=0x8007000e

I can see scripting.dll being added to the build at the end of the building process, so that's not the problem.

The same thing happens when I build the application without a script, but applink it to another application that does have a script inside. (Although this second application runs fine when run on its own, and the script executes without problem).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Vincent

ThinApp Citrix Receiver 3.2

Hi Guys,

I am trying to create a ThinApp package of Citrix Receiver 3.2 for Windows.

Capture Machines:

- Windows 7 x86 SP1 with VMware ThinApp 4.7.1 installed;

- Full administrator rights;

- Nothing installed, windows updates, defender and those kind of services are disabled.

During capturing, I open the Citrix Receiver, close the receiver en then open the receiver again. Then do a postscan and capture the application.

The captured application is copied to a clean Windows 7 x86 SP VM.

I tried the following parameters:

- VirtualizeExternalOutOfProcessCOM=0

- AllowExternalKernelModeServices=1
- AllowExternalProcessModifications=1
- AllowUnsupportedExternalChildProcesses=0
Merged Mode for \%ProgramFilesDir%\Citrix
Eventvwr of Windows is showing the following error:
The description for Event ID 0 from source Self-service Plug-in cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

Self-service Plug-in exited unexpectedly. Exception was Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.    at Dazzle.Streaming.RadePnaDLL.LoadLibrary(String lpFileName)
   at Dazzle.Streaming.RadePnaDLL.get_IsInstalled()

   at Dazzle.AppMonitor.Control.Controller.Load()
   at Dazzle.AppMonitor.Program._Main(String[] args)
   at Dazzle.AppMonitor.Program.Main(String[] args).
So at the end, I still don't know how to resolve this issue... Does somebody has any experience with this?
Thanks in advance,
Krishan

VirtualComputerName

Im trying to package Graphpad Prism 6 which requires a serial key activated to something they call "MachineID". Though virtualizing the computername might not be enough to accomplish this I haven't got VirtualComputerName to work yet (I think).

When I include cmd.exe in the package and run it on another machine and type "echo %computername%" it returns the local computer name instead of the virtualized name I specified in package.ini.

Is this normal behavior or am I missing something here?

Nuance PDF Converter Enterprise

Hello,

We would like to Thinapp the above mentioned program. One of the feature is that it integrates in Windows shell and offers right click feature to convert a PDF in Word. We use a "clean" VM to capture applications. Before I captured the application the right click feature was available. Unfortunately when I deployed the application to a test machine the right click feature was not available. I leave the default option selected when I capture an application. I just selected to create a MSI to easily deploy the application with SCCM.

Any idea what why the right click feature didn't capture?

Thanks,

Edy

Lexacom 3 Dictation - "Fatal application exit - Unable to open"

Hi All,

we have a thinapp of the above software, which is deployed out to approximately 300 users using a thinapp "server" and thinreg.

A small percentage of the users have started to experience issues where the thinapp wont open and they receive the error:

"Fatal application exit - Unable to open."

Clearing the users thinstall folder in their user profile allow the application to function again.

I cant find much about this error message in relation to thinapp, so I wondered if anyone has experienced similar issues with other applications and maybe I have missed something in the package.ini file that is required. Odd that it doesn't affect all users though....

Acrobat X Pro ThinApp possible?

I have successfully thinapped acrobat x pro and the virtual application launches perfectly fine. The problem I'm running into is tripping the prompt to enter the install key or use it in trial mode. The real installation is installed with a valid installation key and is activated. But that activation either doesn't carry over or is not captured during the thinapp process. Adobe obviously has changed their activation process from acrobat 9 to acrobat 10. I was wanting to see if any one has tried thinapping this application yet or has any advice.

I'm trying to thinstall some tutorials from the "Professor Teachers..." series.

When I run then exe, I get "failed to create process default activation context".  The program seems to run fine, once you acknowelege the error.  I have checked the system logs, but the error isn't logged so I don't know what file or resource it is trying to access.  I am new to thinstall and I would like to know how to troubleshoot an error like this.  Thank you.
