ThinApp 4.6.2 and Adobe Acrobat Professional

$

I was excited to read about ThinApp 4.6.2 this morning but I am hoping someone could clarify the release notes in particular in the resolved issues section.

Point no. 2: Virtual Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot create a PDF file from a native Microsoft Word or native Microsoft Excel document. ThinApp does not support virtualization of printer drivers.

Does it mean VMware resolved this issue by not supporting the feature? or the other way around. Thank you.

Unable to Send Email As Attachment From Adobe Reader 10.1

Adobe Reader 10.1.1 (Full Install)

Windows 7 64Bit

Office 2010 32 Bit

IE8

When I open a PDF, and go to Tools - Send Files, Attach to Email (with Outlook open), when I click attach it says Launching email application and eventually comes back with the error "The file Z:\users\username\appdata\local\Microsoft\Outlook\username.ost cannot be opened.".  These are dedicated desktop pools and Z: is where the persistent disk is stored.

I have tried everything on the forums I can find, I have compared permissions on that folder with that of my regular desktop (which works fine) and they all match.  I even rebuilt the ThinApp from scratch with the latest version of ThinApp.  I am out of ideas.

I have attached the package.ini file in case that helps anyone.

Office 2013 will not Activate after building package using ThinApp 5.0

I have a clean Windows 7 64bit system, Thinapp 5.0 installed.   I have followed the procedures provided ( VMware KB: Packaging guide for ThinApp 5.x and Microsoft Office 2013 )  for creating an Office 2013 32bit Thinapp but continue to have licensing issues.   Office shows as activated on the capture machine so it's hitting the KMS correctly.  I have stopped the OSPP service before the capture.   I have added the required config lines to the config.XML before the installation of office.  I have modified the registry file for HKLM before running the build.

After the build is complete I can open the applications for a couple minutes before they try to finish configuration and fail.  Using the debug option to enable CMD and Regedit I have verified that my KMS server is in the registry correctly.   When I run OSPP.VBS from the CMD prompt it shows no products that need to be registered.   I played around with things for a while trying to use the /ACT switch and other things and once, somehow in the combination of playing with things it started working.  I could launch Word, Excel, Outlook etc.   After I logged out, logged back in and tried to load the Thinapp again I received the same failed results again and the apps close.

Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong or what could cause this issue?

Winzip unable to view contents of re-directed My Documents folder

Hi,

We have ThinApped WinZip 14.0 Pro version. However when we try to use WinZip to compress files in My documents, it can't see anything in My Documents folder, however there are files and folders in My Documents. We have tried using ThinApp 4.7 to ThinApp WinZip, however we still have the same issue. Can someone please contact me on how we can fix this issue.

I am attaching the pacakage.ini file for your reference and a screen shot of what empty My Document through WinZip. Also, we have re-directed My Documents folder to a network share. Even the Favourite folder does the same thing. The isolation mode on the %personal% folder is not working. The same thing happens with all our apps.

However if we do not re-direct the My Documents folders then the virtual Winzip can see contents of My Documents. We would really appreciate if someone can get back to us as soon as possible to fix the issue. we tried the same thing with ThinApp 4.6.0 and 4.6.1,it works fine. However with ThinApp 4.6.2 and 4.7 the issue persist.

Let me know if anyone needs more information.

Thanks,
Anand

Microsoft Mappoint 2013 license issue

Hello,

I have installed Microsoft Mappoint on a clean Win XP SP3 VM in folder C:\Mappoint.

I have used merged isolation mode.

While using Thinapp packager I got this info:

While Scanning Windows Installer info: "This procedure is only valid for products which are currently installed" (translation)

When I start the virtualised app I got a similar error mesage like this:

A Licensing initialization error has occurred, Contact the support to get help. 0xc004D301

searched google: support.microsoft.com/kb/951632/en-us

While installing Mappoint you don't have to enter a serial.

Does anyone please could help to make the app running?

Registry double readed?

Hello,

We have an application that has an option in a screen to create tabs, these tabs are written to a HKCU\software key. I see the tabs in the key only once. But when I open the screen in the application some tabs ar appearing twice or three times?

I can not figure out why this happens. If I export the HKCU key and import it on the local client where the installation is done local, everything shows up only once.

With processmonitor I only see that the registry.tvr file I read not the keys itself.

Does anyone have an idea what could cause this strange behaviour

thanks.

Rebuilding ThinApp: Class not registered.

I've been noticing over the past few years that sometimes when you re-build a ThinApp using a newer version of ThinApp it might not work correctly.

For instance, I have an in-house application (that is ThinApp'd) that I needed to change a single file on.  I copied my Captured ThinApp folder over to my ThinApp VM and modified the file, and re-built the ThinApp with the latest version 5.1.  Now when launching the ThinApp it gives an error saying "Class not registered."  If I click the OK button it seems to function just fine.  I tried re-building the ThinApp with version 5.0 and ran into the same problem, but when I tried re-building it with 4.7.2 the error message is no longer there.

I run into this from time to time with various applications, and when I can't figure it out I try different versions of ThinApp and that seems to fix the problem.

Anyone else run into this?

Google Chrome ThinApp download not working

Hi,

I have packaged Google Chrome (v1.0.154.48) successfully using the --no-sandbox option for Chrome's command line within package.ini.

Chrome runs and appears to be all working, except for the downloading of files - the download item appears correctly in the bar at the bottom of the page, however it reports no progress, and just sits on "Starting...".

I have tried packaging Chrome with Merged, WriteCopy and Full isolation levels but the problem remains...

Any ideas??

Alex.

Thinapp and Explorer Shell Context Menues

$

I'm trying to understand if i am doing something wrong or if it's just the way it is.

I'm practicing packaging application with thinapp, i tried Microsoft Office 2007, Winrar, Acrobat Reader 9, Firefox 3.0.7, Google Chrome and Skype 4.0 with success.

There are some differences in the user experience that i would like to solve, if possible:

1) when i right click on a .zip file i have no menues for unzipping it with Winrar;

2) PDF files are not previewed in Vista, you just get the regular PDF icon on files;

3) is there a way to hide the little popup windows on the bottom right when a thinapp application is fired?

4) when opening a PDF from the web using IE or any other broser you get the choice to save or open it, but it should actually open the file in the browser instead

I realized that these issued might not be because of my mistakes but just the normal behavior of thinapped apps; i am just thinking about all the support requests i will get once i will put this into production just because things are slightly different than a regular full desktop user experience.

Thanks for your support.

Application Link / Isolation Question

$

Hi All,

We are currently evaluating Thinapp, and I have a question about the isolation side of things.  Here is the situation:

1) Java 1.4.2_08 already installed as part of the OS build

2) Thinapp Firefox 3.0.8 and goto javatester.org and it reports Java version from base build (as expected)

3) Thinapp Firefox 3.0.8 again but this time including Java version 6 release 13 via Application Link - goto javatester.org (reports v6.13 as expected)

4) Leave Firefox from step 3 loaded, then load the original Firefox and javatester.org reports v6.13

Is this as you guys would expect?  I'd expected (hoped) in step 4 to see Firefox reporting Java 1.4.2_08 in one window and v6.13 in the other window.  But it seems that the first Thinapp'd Firefox to be loaded sets the standard.

Perhaps I'm missing something but I thought this technology would to be able to deliver multiple copies of the same app bundled with different versions of Java but it doesn't seem to be the case...

Any info greatly recieved.

Thanks,

Rob.

Hi,

I'm trying to thinapp autocad 2009 and thus far I've had no luck. The isolation mode is set to merged. Also, before i performed the second snapshot i made sure that the autodesk licensing service (AdskScSrv.exe) was stopped. The application build was performed on a completely clean Vmware workstation. When I try to launch the thinapped application on either the machine I did the snashop on, or on anormal machine i recieve the error message  FATAL ERROR:  Unhandled c0000096h Exception at 246149bh

Thinapped Adobe Reader opening pdf's in a Local install of IE

$

We have a document management system which runs through IE which is installed onto the local machine.

I need to be able to see a PDF within the page of IE, at the moment it asks to open the file. Which does work as I have thinreg Adobe Reader and that all works fine. What i cant seem to do is get the local IE to see the ThinApped Reader.

It does work if I run the IE from within the Bin folder of Adobe Reader. I just dont know how to get them to talk, I guess its to do with the Applink command but not sure what i should be entering. Ive seen lots of questions like this but cant seem to get any of the answers to work. If someone could do a dummies guide on how to get this to work I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Lotus Notes 8.5, notes2.exe process

We have virtualized Lotus Notes 8.5 with ThinApp 4.5,  Writecopy iscolation. It is working well, but a notes2.exe process takes a long time to end after quitting Notes. If the desktop session is logged out of when notes2.exe is still running, get the Windows message to "click to end now."

Has anyone seen this before? If so, was anything able to resolve this?

I could use a vbs script to end the process on shutdown, any one know of any pitfalls with that?

The build was done on a clean XP Pro SP2 vm.

Thank You.

Alternative Icon for File Associations

So, I've thinapp'd Orca, the, I can't live without it, MSI editor from the Microsoft SDK.

Orca, being an MSI editor, associates itself with .msi files.  You right click on an msi and you get Install, Repair, Uninstall, Edit with Orca.

No Probs, thinreg handles that very nicely.

Problem.

All .msi's now have Orca as the default icon instead of the default icon from msiexec.exe

Is there a way to prevent thinreg from overwriting the existing DefaultIcon for the file association?

or

Is there a way to specify the default icon for FileTypes?

Aesthetics can make all the difference to the end user experience.

Thinapp'd Microsoft Office 2010 not closing all processes

$

I posted this on the VMware Thinapp Blog  but I wanted to make sure the VMware discussions had it as well.

I've virtualized Office 2010 with Thinapp 4.6 and all the applications seem to run "buglessly" however xxx.dat remains open in memory after closing out of everything (Office 2010).  I've added the VBscript to close xxx.dat on LASTPROCESSEXIT but the process continues to run in memory.

The VBscript works flawlessly on other Thinapp'd packages I've created.  See below:

Function OnLastProcessExit

               Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

               WshShell.Run "taskkill /F /IM Office.dat"

               End Function

Any suggestions?

Thinreg Unregister when ThinApp Missing

$

Hi there,

What's the best way to unregister ThinApps that are missing from the ThinApp network share?

For example, I want to remove a ThinApp from all users that previously register it, without having access to the source ThinApp.exe.

Is there a way to unregister all apps, without passing the ThinApp share as an argument?

Thanks.

Autocad 2008 on Windows 7 - Problem with "standard user"

$

Hello,

After strugling a bit, i finally made a portable autocad 2008 for windows 7. The problem is that only work with the administrator user (tested on several pcs). When i try with a standard user always gave the same problem: appHangb1 error.

This are the Steps made:

Virtualization of Windows 7 Ultimate with Parallels in Macbook Pro

Instalation of ThinApp 4.6

PreScan with ThinApp

Instalation of Autocad 2008

Autocad 2008 Activation

Autocad service Pack SP1 Instalation: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=10035892&linkID=9240618

Hotfix - Autodesk Activation Update: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=5620053&linkID=9240618

Copy Enu Dirs in "c:/Users/Administrator/Appdata/LOCAL/autodesk..." and "c:/Users/Administrator/Appdata/ROAMING/autodesk..." in a new "Setting" directory in autocad instalation dir: c:/Program Files/Autocad 2008/Settings"

Change al "User Paths" from Local and Roaming dirs to paths in new folder:  "c:/Program files/Autocad 2008/Settings"  (in Tools-Options-File tab)

Change autocad2008.cfg path (in Tools-Options-File tab-Help and miscellanius files names-Configuration File). Here, you cannot change de file path, you must change setting the ACADCFG enviroment variable:

on Autocad command Line write: (setenv "ACADCFG" "c:/Program files/Autocad 2008/Settings/enu/autocad2008.cfg")

PostScan Tof ThinApp

After creating the project: remove OLEAUT32.DLL from %SYSTEMSYSTEM%

Build Project

After all this the portable aplication runs on several pcs with windows 7, but only as an administrator. When i try with the Standard User, always gave me the same problem: The program hang, and if you see the error always sat "AppHangB1"

Someone could help me?? I dont know what im doing wrong, and i need urgently a portable Autocad in Windows 7. please.....
