ThinApp "APPCRASH" issue. Our internal Lab product's ThinApp fails on Windows 7 and windows 2008R2.

We have our internal products and we are working on to make them as ThinApp. One of our product is compatible with Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 2008R2 (compatible with all windows x86 and x64 OS). We are using ThinApp original license (tied up with VMWare) to create ThinApps.

The error is following:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem signature:

  Problem Event Name:     APPCRASH
  Application Name:     Config Laboratory.exe
  Application Version:     7.0.0.1
  Application Timestamp:     510cc364

These are the following inputs I'm providing here:

1. ThinApp of this product works fine on Windows XP (ThinApp created using XP box) without any issues.

2. If we create ThinApp of this product on Windows 7 and on Windows 2008R2, the above error we get.

3. We have checked that the folder "C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Roaming\Thinstall\Application Folder" is cleared.

4. ThinApp is captured sucessfully, because the above config laboratory.exe is running in sand box but after building the exe which comes in bin folder is not running, so the problem is after build only.

5. We are using original thinapp license, no trial.

Any suggestion would be appreciated very much.

Thanking You,

ThinApp Oracle Client v10.2.0.4 and Uniface

I am trying out ThinApp and am still learning many of the Ins and Outs n' such.  My first project is to ThinApp the Oracle v10.2.0.4 client.  The Oracle client is used in conjunction with an application that runs off of a network drive mapping.  Prior to  completing the build on my ThinApped Oracle I tested the networked application after the Oracle Client was captured and I was able to logon to it.  However, my ThinApped Oracle will not allow access to the Uniface based application.  This is the error message:

Unable to load uora62: error 126 (The specified module could not be found).

The DLL could not be loaded either in the USYSBIN directory or via the PATH variable .

Check if its directory is in the correct place in the Path Variable.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Thinapp loads but does not open

I have an application that I created a thin app for, not compressed, with an msi file. It was working fine, then I forgot about it for a few months. Now I am where I need to deploy it (it has been re-linked along with the other thinapps when I upgraded to version 4.7). All of the other apps work fine, but this one, it deploys fine but when I click on the desktop shortcut, the thinapp pop up loads, then nothing. No error message, just nothing. I saw another post with the same problem, but it referred to  capturing on WinXP and deploying on Win7. I am capturing on Win7 and deploying to Win7 also. I did check for the files that the other post said were causing the problem, but my packages did not include those files. So I am at a loss, I suppose I could recreate the app, but would prefer to understand what is causing it to not work all of a sudden.

Thank you!

Custom Application Crash (c0000005)

Hi,

I'm having a problem with the virtualization of an application under Windows 7. That application is working fine under Windows XP (both local install and Thinapp). Under Windows 7, the local installation is working but the Thinapp crash with a c0000005 exception. Please note that I tried packaging it using WinXP SP3 and Win7. Both version are giving me the same error. When I'm using Thinapp Log Monitor, I find that  GDI32.dll is throwing that error. I tried to copy an xp version of the GDI32.dll to %systemsystem% folder on the capture but the application is not starting on both XP and Win7.

Can anyone guide me through resolution since I think I know what is causing the problem but I don't know how to solve it.

Thank you

How to properly integrate .net framework into a package?

$

Hello, I am having a very hard time trying to get the .net framework included in a package to run a .net application. My biggest problem is that there is very little documentation on how to build a .net application into a ThinApp package. I've muttled my way through a couple of trial-and-error steps and I think I figured out the most part but I just can't seem to get it working. Here is what I've done so far.

  • Built a clean Windows Vista machine

  • Removed Framework 3.0 (turn features on/off)

  • Installed ThinApp

  • Ran pre-scan

  • Installed Framework 3.0 (turn features on/off)

  • Ran post scan

  • Compiled package as cmd.exe

  • Added my .net application in the %ProgramFilesDir%

  • copied package to another Vista machine (one without the framework)

  • ran cmd.exe (which did build my directories and place my application in the right spot)

  • ran application

When I run the application, I get an .dll not found message (usually mscoree.dll) which tells me that I didn't get the .net framework captured correctly.

Did I do the integration correctly or is there some magic trick I don't know to make this easier? Or a better question, are there any step-by-step walkthroughs available for integrating a .net application into a package?

Thanks!!

ThinApp and IIS withing Windows XP

I have been working on a few applications with many linked virtualized applications like .NET, JRE, SQL, MSDE, etc and have been able to get most of them working.  The ones that I can not seem to get working deal with IIS.  I know it is going to be a pain and or not possible right now, but has anyone come across a solution for applications that use IIS and or even a good work around?  Thanks!

Problem with capturing Techsmith Snagit 9

$

I've been trying to Thinapp Snagit 9 and I'm running into some issues.  By default, Snagit wants to install its own print driver -- this caused the app to crash on startup.  After figuring that one out, I removed the snagit printer from the install and now I can get the main SnagIt program to load, but the Snagit Editor crashes every time you attemp to perform a screen capture or launch it manually.  I get the following error:

"Failed to initialize the SnagIt datastore.  Make sure the sqlce dlls are in the SnagIt directory."

I double checked to make sure all the same sqlce dlls are in the capture as were in the original install -- and they are.  Anybody run into this before?

Access is denied error message when triing to start application from cmd.exe

$

If somebody could help here, it would be very appreciated.

I thinapped Office 2003.  I installed also a grammar checker plug-in in the package.  I have difficulties with this grammar checker (Antidote RX) with my Thinapp package.  Here's one of the symptoms that is the most meaningful beside that the application doesn't work normally :

When I start cmd.exe in the isolated environnement and then I start WINWORD.EXE, then no problem, WINWORD.EXE starts normaly.  But as soon as I start the grammar checker, everything in the isolated environment becomes locked ...  I then cannot start WINWORD.EXE, I receive an "access is denied." error message.  I could not start any EXE.  If I close my grammar checker, then it will come back to normal and I will be able to start other EXE's in the isolated environment from CMD.EXE.

It seems my Thinapp package becomes locked (even for reading).  How to prevent that ?

If I do the same thing with CMD.EXE in a normally installed Office 2003 with this same grammar checker, there's no problem.

Applications dependent on system-level DLLs

$

I have a legacy application that is dependent on certain system32 DLLs (hardcoded API calls). My ultimate goal is to make this application OS independent (at least between XP SP2 and Vista SP1). So... I have a dependency chain as follows:

App.exe -> NETAPI32.DLL -> MSVCRT.DLL -> NTDLL.DLL -> ADVAPI32.DLL, etc. etc. (All XP-based DLLs)

With the goal being OS independency, it seems that I should include at least some of these DLLs in the virtual bubble.  I know this can be dangerous, considering the differing API calls, etc.

So I guess my question is:  has anyone else run into this problem?  My experience so far is that when I start including these system DLLs in the package, the errors come pooring out.  Is there another solution?

Thanks,

Clint

Google Chrome ThinApp download not working

$

Hi,

I have packaged Google Chrome (v1.0.154.48) successfully using the --no-sandbox option for Chrome's command line within package.ini.

Chrome runs and appears to be all working, except for the downloading of files - the download item appears correctly in the bar at the bottom of the page, however it reports no progress, and just sits on "Starting...".

I have tried packaging Chrome with Merged, WriteCopy and Full isolation levels but the problem remains...

Any ideas??

Alex.

thinapp crashing during build process when processing filetypes. tlink.exe error

$

Having a problem building a program named "ApplicationXtender". During build it errors out at "writing boot image" for exe entry point "AppXtender Document Manager.exe". It throws an error message "Linker has encountered a problem and needs to close". Click more info and tlink.exe ver 4.0.2.3089 is the culprit.

So I narrowed it down to the FileTypes parameter that entry point in package.ini. If I rem the param out the build succeeds, but unless I'm missing something those file types will no longer be registered by thinreg, right? So I've also tried them one at a time, build fails on both types. Just for fun I added .doc and the build succeeds.

Here is the problem area:

AppXtender Document Manager.exe

Source=%ProgramFilesDir%\XtenderSolutions\Content Management\Aex32.exe

Shortcut=AppXtender.dat

WorkingDirectory=%ProgramFilesDir%\XtenderSolutions\Content Management\

Icon=%SystemRoot%\Installer\{5CF78860-9ACB-4EF4-8933-4A676BC34182}\Icon5CF788601.exe,6

;FileTypes=.aex.aeq

Shortcuts=%Programs%\ApplicationXtender Desktop

Any ideas? Is this a bug?

IBM ISeries Client Access, Can't Get It to Virtualize

$

I have been working on trying to get the 5250 emulator part of the ISeries Client Access to work as a virtualized application. It builds without errors, but I get this before building:

Could not copy file C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat -> O:\ClientAccess\%drive_C%\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat

Could not copy file C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat -> O:\ClientAccess\%drive_C%\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat

I tried to manually copy the file and re build. Since the files are hidden, I copied with UBCD4Win and then copied to the locations in the %drive_C% locations. The build takes place but nothing occurs after the Thinapp splash screen.

I am using VMWare Workstation witha fresh basic image.

I have seen a post from 2005 or so that said that ISeries Client Access won't virtualize, and then in the information about Thinapp version 4.0.2 that a Client Access bug has been fixed.

thanks for any help.

Windows Installer Pop-ups appear whil running my application

$

I'm currently demoing ThinApp.  I've been able to create simple apps (IE7, 7Zip, ect) but I'm having trouble with a more complex app.  The application I'm talking about is called Raisers Edge (not sure that matters).  When you run the setup executable it searches for the prerequisite applications, installs what you need, then installs the main application.  The prerequisite applications it checks for are MDAC 2.8, Dot Net 2.0, Visual Basic 2627.01, Crystal XI Runtime.  We still run quite a few Windows 2000 machines so I created the ThinApp on a clean W2K VM.  The application runs but I get these Windows Installer pop ups anytime the app loads or I perform a query.  The pop-ups are more like flashes that go away without closing them.  I do not see the same condition on the machine I captured the install on.  The package is large (1.6gb).  I'm not sure if that's part of the problem?
