SideBySide Errors with ThinApp 4.5 not with 4.0.4

$

We have some packages captured with ThinApp 4.0.4 and rebuilded with ThinApp 4.5 and experience some problems.

Example: VMware Virtual Structure Client

Captured with 4.0.4 and making the build with 4.0.4 it works fine.

Rebuild the package with 4.5 or using relink.exe from 4.5 results in a package, which behaves a little bit sluggish, produces many SideBySide errors in the eventlog and the trying to open a console freezes the program in about half the tries.

Even more strange is, that i can't use the log monitor for debugging, because if the log monitor is open, the programm does not start, but I get a error message ts_log error 1.

The log monitor error I get also by packages captured and build only with 4.5.

The capture system is Windows XP SP2 German hosted on ESX 3.5.

The SideBySide Errors are:

Generate Activation Context ist für C:\Programme\VMware\Infrastructure\Virtual Infrastructure Client\2.5\vmware-remotemks.exe fehlgeschlagen. Referenzfehlermeldung: Der Vorgang wurde erfolgreich beendet.

The file is not allways the same, and:

Resolve Partial Assembly ist für Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls fehlgeschlagen. Referenzfehlermeldung: Das System kann den angegebenen Pfad nicht finden.

The errors also come up on the capture machine using the thinapp, but not when I start the installed program.

So, 4.5. seems to have an error, because with 4.0.4. I don't experience this problems.

Process (ifrun60.exe) remains active (Taskmanager) after closing thinapp under windows7 (xp works)

Hi,

I have installed "oracle forms6 runtime + reports" as a Thinapp. The Thinapp works fine. I can also open the thinapp a second or third time.

But when I close the Programm the process "ifrun60.exe" remains active (Oracle Forms Runform)!!

If I try to start the programm again it waits until i kill the "old" process. After killing the process the thinapp application starts.

The Problem occurs on Windows7 32bit and 64bit.

Under Windows XP the thinapp works fine.

I tried to build the thinapp and run the thinapp in compatibility mode (Windows XP SP3) but the problem was the same.

With Process Explorer i only found out that some Threads are running. (some with Wait:UserRequest some with Wait:wrQueue)

When I install the "oracle forms6 runtime + reports" as a regular application under windows 7 it works fine.

No processes remain open when I close the application.

Are there parameter/switches for the thinapp.

Any suggestions, ideas?

callback functions

Is there a callback function for thinapp that I could use to execute a command, from a vbs, when an application finishes loading?   Something like OnFirstParentFinish.  I know there are 4 built in call back functions (OnFirstSandboxOwner, OnFirstParentStart, OnFirstParentExit, and OnLastProcessExit), but none of these execute when the app has completed loading.

I need to cacls a folder after the application has loaded.

Any thoughts on this or is this not currently available in thinapp?

Thinapp stuck in 'Pending Install' in View Administrator

Hello,

So I've got a ThinApp that I assigned to a desktop in View Administrator, then I un-assigned it for testing.. Now I want to re-assign it but it's status on this VM is 'Pending Install', it's been pending all day now. I've rebooted the VM, made sure that the ThinApp is indeed removed from the VM.

The ThinApp admin guide says for this situation to go to Inventory -> Thinapps, then click the thinapp name, then go to the Desktop tab and click Retry Install, but all 3 of the buttons on that screen are grayed out so I can force removal of the status or reinstall.. So what do I do now??

Thanks!!

Mathematica Thinapp

Has anyone created a thinapp package of Mathematica? I have one created, but it won't perform the evaluations as it is supposed to. My understanding is that it uses what they call a math kernel, which is simply a seperate executable that is installed with the program. I have included this executable in the package as a second entry point, but it still will not perform the evals.

To explain a little further... If you typeformula into the program (eg.  22) you should be able to perform the evaluation of that formula by hitting a menu item or the shorcut shiftenter and the program automatically displays the sum.

Any help would be appreciated

Can a Thinapp captured on XP 32bit run in a 64bit (or 32bit) Windows 7 machine?

Hello All,

I just captured an app on an XP Pro (32bit) machine, the app in question is not compatible with Windows 7 or XP 64bit in a physical environment.

I have tested the thinapp on another XP destop and it works fine, but I cannot get it to work on Windows 7 32bit or 64bit - am I right in thinking that it is possible for this to work, or will it never work?!

Thanks All,

Compatibility Mode

After searching through the forums, I wasn’t able to find a clear answer to my question.

I am trying to thinapp an old windows 98 title, which runs on windows XP when Compatibility Mode (windows 98/ windows ME) is used. Then after capturing the image, this setting doesn't thinapp into the EXE.

I have tried changing the setting on the EXE after building the package. I also changed the compatibility mode on the file in the capture directory before building the package. Neither worked.

Is there any trick to force Compatibility Mode to capture correctly?

Thanks!

mailto protocols not registering properly

Has the mailto protocols issue be resolve with thinapp 4.6?  Does Thinapp 4.6 automatically recognize and set the proper mailto protocol entries in the registry when you install Office 2007 with Windows XP SP3, or do you still need to set this from the OS level in order for the capture to work correctly?  If I just virtualize office 2007 (with word, excel, outlook all package together), the office app will use outlook (versus outlook express) as its default mail client.

However, when I start to mix Office 2007 core thinapp package with other Office 2003 thinapp packages (i.e. Word 2003, Project 2000, Visio 2002), any other office app outside of the office 2007 bubble, it default the mail client to Outlook Express!  Any feedback would be appreicated

Office 2010 License issue

I have created a thinapp of Office 2010 - (Pro plus + Project and  Visio). We have an enterprise license, and I have made sure it is  activated before creating the thinapp package. Thinapp created in Windows 7

I have run the Microsoft Office 2010 Deployment Kit for App-V on the target machine as recommended on a vmware blog.

When I try to launch one of the apps, I get an installer window that  says "configuring Microsoft office..." It fails with the message "Error  1719. The Windows installer service could not be accessed. This can  occur if the windows installer  is not correctly installed. contact support personnel..."

An  error window follows this failure stating "Microsoft Office Pro Plus  2010 cannot verify the license for this application. A repair attempt  failed or was cancelled by the user. The application will now shut  down."

Office obv thinks its an unlicensed version

Any suggestions?

ThinDirect

I have a virtual IE6 package with several plugins. Everything is working fine. I am trying to implement ThinDirect for this. The location of the server the URL is pointing at is inside out network, but it uses a specific port number. Initially ThinDirect works to go to the main URL. After logging in, i get redirected again, but i am not sure where it is trying to go. The URL also gets appended with a randomly generated string each time it is accessed.

The syntax i have tried in the ThinDirect.txt file is:

servername1234*

servername1234.ourdomain.com*

http://servername1234*

http://servername1234.ourdomain.com*

http://servername1234/*

http://servername1234.ourdomain.com/*

http://servername1234*/*

http://servername1234.ourdomain.com*/*

http://servername1234:5000/*

http://servername1234.ourdomain.com:5000/*

http://servername1234:5000*/*

http://servername1234.ourdomain.com:5000*/*

All of the above redirect me after i login to the web based application.

Any ideas what i am doing wrong?

Thank you,

Kevin

Installing .msi file created by ThinApp: still unable to locate Win32Data.qtr

I set up Workstation on my host Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit PC, ans installed a 32-bit virtual Windows XP clean machine with Workstation. I installed Starry Night CSAP on the virtual XP machine, and it runs fine. I used Setup Capture from ThinApp to create an msi image with 1.5GB  dat file, using Restricted Write Isolation Mode, and "same directory as application (USB drive/portable media)" for Sandbox location.I copied the result C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware ThinApp\Capture\Starry Night CSAP(5)\ folder to my Windows 7 host machine, installed the VMware version of Starry Night CSAP by double clicking the msi icon. When I ran the result by double clicking the Starry Night CSAP icon on the Windows 7 desktop, the original error "cannot locate Win32Data.qtr. Pls reinstall" from trying to install and run Starry Night CSAP on the Windows 7 PC without VMware, recurs. I also tried User Profile for the sandbox location and Full write isolation mode, both without success.

Could an expeienced software designer who had the same issues please share their knowledge in solving this problem?

Many thanks,

Thinapp Log Monitor and vReg Viewer

First time posting. Had a couple of questions. I tried a search and didn't find anything so I apologize in advance is someone already posted a similar question.

First, is there anywhere on the net that I can learn how to read Thinapp Log Monitor logs? It looks like a gibberish to me and even procmon is sometimes hard for me to parse through. I was just looking for some articles that break down what everything means in the Log Monitor or if VMWare has some type of training class I can pay for to go to etc.

Second, are there any updated versions of vReg viewer? The one I have is a beta version that always locks up when I try to use it.

Thanks.

Adobe Reader X - Protected Mode issue

$

Has anyone been able to ThinApp Adobe Reader X and have Protected mode work? I have the ThinApp, but each time I open it I get the prompt asking how I want to proceed. Open one time with Protected mode disabled, Always open disabled, or Never open disabled (which closes the program).

I see on Adobe's site that it could be an issue with opening from a network share. I thought that when it it opened, the OS could not distiinguish where it was running from, and thought it was running locally as a native account. I would like to have this work, because our regular desktops will be deployed with this feature turned on (they are running a native install for now).

"failed to create process default activation context" For some users and not others?!

Hello,

We are trialing thinapp to specificaly fix an issue we are having. I'm very new to Thinapp so please bare with me if theres thing you need me to check.

I have packaged IE6 with a version of Java. I did this on a bare XP workstation with nothing but VMware tools running. the XP workstation had a full windows update before the pre-scan was performed.

The application will be run on a Server 2008 64 bit citrix farm and when i log in and run the application it works fine as it does for my test user. I published this for testing by or users and a lot of them get the error "failed to create process default activation context".

From what I have read, this is due to a file missing from the package or something missing on the host OS however I'm not sure how this can be.

Any ideas?

Is this possible with thinapp?

We have a 16 bit in-house app that we are trying to run on windows 7.  Certain functions of this app will not run on Windows 7 if UAC is  enabled.  I ran the application using standard user analyzer and found  that it fails on the below:

SetWindowsHookExA 1 (WH_JOURNALPLAYBACK) called to set a global Windows hook.

SetWindowsHookExA 1 (WH_JOURNALPLAYBACK) failed to set a Windows hook with error 0x5.

I have no experience with thinapp. Would it be possible to package this application as an thinapp package?

I know med-v is probably what we need to to, but wanted to see if it was possible with thinapp

Thank You

Adobe Reader 10.1.1 (Full Install)

Windows 7 64Bit

Office 2010 32 Bit

IE8

When I open a PDF, and go to Tools - Send Files, Attach to Email (with Outlook open), when I click attach it says Launching email application and eventually comes back with the error "The file Z:\users\username\appdata\local\Microsoft\Outlook\username.ost cannot be opened.".  These are dedicated desktop pools and Z: is where the persistent disk is stored.

I have tried everything on the forums I can find, I have compared permissions on that folder with that of my regular desktop (which works fine) and they all match.  I even rebuilt the ThinApp from scratch with the latest version of ThinApp.  I am out of ideas.

I have attached the package.ini file in case that helps anyone.

Sage Accpac Client

I'm trying to Thinapp the Sage Accpac Client.  On the build computer it runs and works fine, prior to building.  I build and then copy the .msi file to my workstation.

I install the .msi file on my workstation, and the accpac.exe application appears to run.  However, it requires a secondary process a4wsignon.exe to run in the background, and this is the piece that isn't working.

It crashes, and I get this message:

System error. Cannot connect to Sage Accpac Signon Manager.

Write down the message.  Exit Sage Accpac and Windows.  Restart and retry the operation.
