Update registry

I have to update a ThinApp, but the original source code used to create the ThinApp can not be found.

All I have is the original ThinApp PROJECT FOLDER.

To update the file system, I think I can just modify the PROJECTS files/folder (i.e., %AppData%, %ProgramFilesDir%), then run BUILD again.

But how best to modify the registry, is it just a matter of modifying HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.txt or HKEY_CURRENT_USER.txt found in the PROJECT FOLDER, then running BUILD?

Virtualizing RSAT with ThinApp 5 - MMC MSC problems

$

Hi All,

After a few months of browsing, I am finally posting something because I need help!  If I can get this problem solved, I plan on publishing a new recipe here to the discussion boards to benefit those who are running into the very same problem.

I have done *tons* of searching on this topic; add command-line attributes to the Package.ini file; use the /32 switch for MMC...none of which are working for me:

- ThinApp version 5.0.0-1391583

- Windows 7 SP1 x86 (clean install, joined to domain, using admin account to package apps)

After installing RSAT to my VM, when attempting to start AD Users and Computers, I get this error message:

"MMC cannot open the file C:\Windows\system32\dsa.msc

This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC.  This may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the file"

My ThinApp and target VMs are both running the exact same Windows 7 SP1 x86 build, so I know it's not a platform issue (and people have done this before me, so....)

For what it's worth, Active Directory Administrative Center works fine, so does the PowerShell snap in.

AD Domains and Trusts, AD Sites and Services, AD Users and Computers, Certification Authority, DFS, DNS, File Server Resource Manager, and Group Policy Management all exhibit this error.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

An issue with ThinApp on Windows 10 1709

Hi All,

This is my first question in this community. I'm currently evaluating VMware ThinApp, version 5.2.3.

I'm trying to pack our desktop application for running it later from a CD. The final product will hold some medical data given to our customers along with a viewer to open the data.

We're planning to use ThinApp to pack our software that reads from the registry, so that it works without having to use registry keys on customer's computers.

Now, all this works very well on Windows 7. However, when I try to run the packed program on the latest Windows 10 (Fall Creators Update, build 1709) I'm getting these errors:

Error.JPG

Followed by:

Error2.JPG

I'm running the packed application from a desktop computer (not a CD, yet).

I've tried everything I could think of and I'm a bit clueless...

Does ThinApp 5.2.3 actually support Windows 10 build 1709? Or is it something else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Application.StartupPath Does not return actual path

I am actually a "paying" customer of Thinstall, but I continue to have a problem that I do not know how to resolve. I am really stumped, and while I do have Thinstall incidents, they appear to be too busy to help so I am turning to this community for ideas. So I am hopeful that someone in this forum may know the best approach.

I use Thinstall to create a 0-install footprint for our customers, I need it to interact with the users' desktop  and system, so in previous versions, I was able to use Application.Startuppath and everything worked fine.  But now, if I reference the application start up path, it is returning the internal path and not the external path.  For example, once I have Thinstalled my application where I have referenced Application.StartupPath and I then burn it to a CD and put it in my CDRom drive, my thinstalled application continues to show the Application.StartupPath as C:\program files\<application folder>.

This is not good as my application also needs to write to the users' temp directory.  So is there a solution?  Does the current NorthStar Beta provide a fix or workaround?

MANY HUGE THANKS for any feedback.  Best Wishes to All!

Re: Generic Sandbox path.

We have a VMWARE VDI environment where we are in the initial stage of application virtualization. Most of the pools are Floating VM pool. I have a doubt about how to give the path for Sandbox so that it is loaded into individual user profile itself. Is there a way by which the sandbox path can be made Generic?

Thanks in advance for the replies .

Visio 2010 Thinapp issue

$

Hi,

I am packaging Visio 2010 for a client to run on Windows 7 64bit. I have tried packaging it following the various guides I have found such as:

VMware KB: Packaging guide for ThinApp 5.x and Microsoft Office 2010

ThinApp Microsoft Visio and Project 2010 while locally installed Microsoft Office 2010 | VMware ThinApp Blog - VMware Bl…

For the most part the app works. However the user's My documents directory is redirected to a network location, and Visio throws "an error (126) occurred during the action Save." whenever you try to save to that directory or one of the sub directories.

The file will save successfully either locally, or to any non-redirected network location.

The user has full control access over the folder, and can manually copy the file to the directory after successfully saving the file elsewhere.

This appears to be an issue with thinapp and the folder redirection. Locally installed Visio does not experience the same issue.

This issue is not happening to the Project 2010 thinapp that was created following the same guides.

Any suggestions?

Slow Open Dialog folder listing

Hi.

I have an issue with Open dialog and folder with a large number of subfolders in thinapped application.

Folder has over 12000 subfolders.

Default (not thinapped) application list subfolders in Open Dialog almost instantly.

But thinapped enumerates all subfolders more than 30 seconds (depends on view and filter).

I have replicate this issue on Windows Server 2012 (R2) and Windows 8 (8.1) using Thinapp ver 5.x.x

with applications that use standard Open Dialog (Adobe Acrobat).

Apps that use own Open Dialog opens folder as installed one.

Is this thinapp bug or there is some trick to resolve it?

Mozilla FireFox ThinApp - flash player not work

Dear all,

we are searching the correct way to ThinApp Mozilla FireFox version 45, we've tried everything that we found in internet, any user guide ..but it was useless.. no one of this works well.

Each time we want to start Adobe Flash Player version test, on this link https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html, we get this error;

************************************

Unable to load DLL

C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\FlashPlayerPugin_21_0_0_213.exe -> COMDLG32.dll

Access Denied.

************************************

We also tried to ThinApp Adobe Flash Player separately and link it to the project through package.ini with command "OptionalAppLinks=plugins\*.exe" but for Firefox doesn't work, it works very well for Internet Explorer.

As last test we've tried to install directly on base image on local machine but we get the same error message.

There are some suggestions ?

Very slow portable app to access a folder

$

Hi everyone!

I'm new in creating portable applications so this might be a newbie question.

I've created a portable app of an application which saves files on the pc. When the file is saved and displayed as completed, if i right click on the item there is an option to access the folder where the item is saved. When i do this, it takes over a minute to just open the folder.

When i try this with the installed application, it opens the folder instantly.

I am using Windows 10 Enterprise. I also tried this on the virtual machine and it still have this issue. When accessing folders through the app, it is extremely slow and sometimes it even crashes.

Anyone knows what might be the issue? What do i need to change in Package.ini to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

Hi All,

running the following

Windows 10 1607/1709

Appvolumes 2.13.2

UEM 9.3

Thinapp 5.2.3

so I have an issue java it’s a pain with multiple versions for multiple application.

anyway I started a thinapp with a java version all going well till I deploy it.

the application starts creating files in the %appdata%\thinapp directory im happy with that except Windows firewall has the jp2launcher.exe blocked.

Does thinapp have a way that when this application writes it can go to C:\programdata or C:\.

thanks in advance

What happens when my 60 day evaluation ends?

Hi, so far this product has been great. I've been having a ton of trouble getting a hold of sales for pricing, which is a bit crazy.

I am wondering though, what happens in 60 days after my evaluation expires? Currently I've just created one .exe for testing, but I was wondering if I purchase a license will I need to remake this .exe or how I tie my existing programs into a new license?

Or lets say I decide to go with a different product, will it automatically delete those old .EXEs?

or even say a few computers I have are offline only, using my PAID license to create the .exe, will it stop working after a set period of time if it can't contact the central licensing server? thank you very much if anyone has any answers regarding this

ThinApp incompatibility with Windows 10 (1909)

$

All versions of ThinApp does not work for Windows 10. The output file works only on Windows 7. I even tried to make portable with standalone EXE application and it wasn't able to run by returning error and user should kill the process from task manager.

I checked two computers. I tried ThinApp 5.2.3 and TinApp 5.2.6 - they all give me the same result. No matter where the portable is made (on Windows 10 or Windows 7) - both outputs have the same issue and same result (work for Win7, not work for Win10). How could this be possible?! You can check PhotoFiltre. Just get the main application and it will give you the same as whole program did. Home Page Download

HINT: PhotoFiltre have different interface skin for Win7 or Win10. Default skin was on Windows 7, new skin on Windows 10. Seems it wasn't able to read from somewhere. But my platform is same - Windows 10.

By the way - I found another issue for Windows 10 LTSC: ThinApp 5.2.3 can not accept legit registration key.

Google Chrome browser

Google's Chrome browse using a sandboxing technology which is not currently compatible with ThinApp (which also provides sandboxing)

http://dev.chromium.org/developers/design-documents/sandbox

I found you can disable Chrome's sandboxing mechanism using "--no-sandbox" command-line parameter and then it works under ThinApp. So here is a temporary solution:

1. During packaging process, after installing Google Chrome, add an extra shortcut to the startmenu that contains the Target command "Chrome.exe --no-sandbox"

2. Make sure to select this EXE as user-accessible entry point

Optionally, if you have the package already captured you can edit package.ini like this

http://Google Chrome.exe

ReadOnlyData=bin\Package.ro.tvr

Source=%Local AppData%\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe

CommandLine=%Local AppData%\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe --no-sandbox

WorkingDirectory=%Local AppData%\Google\Chrome\Application
