Fatal Application Exit - Google Chrome

$

Hi All,

I have recently tried to package Google Chrome (55.0.2883.75) and keep receiving an error message "Fatal Application Exit - ThinApp has encountered and unexpected error" it displays some PID (1944) and create process.cpp (1949) numbers, clicking retry the message comes up again, PID=5236, create process=4444  but then says "unexpected exception in RelaunchUsingCreateProcess"

One place I found this error in another forum, the OP said it was an isolation issue left the post unanswered and didn't say any more.

The quickest way to reproduce this error is to thinapp Chrome, change MSIIs64 to 0 and the MSIInstallDirectory to Google\Chrome\application.  I am installing the thinapp to the same location as the physical location so the shortcuts users have setup continue working.  The next step was to change the name of the thinapp EXE, but found it failed at this point.  In fact it failed just by changing the MSIIs64 and MSI install dir to Google.

Opening the Entry Point cmd.exe I can run browse all the internal locations, run DIR as many times as I like, run copy con and create a short txt file inside the thinapp/sandbox but if I run chrome.exe it crashes and takes the cmd window with it. I can open the EP I created for windows explorer that opens at Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\application and browse, once again can't run the chrome EP without crashing both chrome and the thinapp EP of explorer.exe

I have found running the uninstalled EXE EP seems to work, but as soon as it is installed, the EP fails/crashes.

The version I created for a pilot release worked, with very little modified in the package, but someone tried to open a DOCX file from a link and received the same error as my tests above.  I had to withdraw the pilot at this point.

I have attached both the pilot and experimental package.ini files for anybody to have a look.

Most of the paths in the package had the default attributes file.  The last version I created unmodified, I built it, tested/worked, modified MSIIs64=0, built/tested/worked, changed MSIInstallDirectory=Google, built/test/failed.  I have even played with wow64 and AltArchitectureShortcut to see if any of this changes things.

Background behind Google Chrome - I have packaged for our company Chrome for the last year and a half, built the MST and modified it for fixing the shortcut errors in Windows 98.1 because of the metro interface and the way it uses classes.  I contribute on a ninja site for packaging under Chrome, so I know "how to Chrome stuff"

The installer might be 64bit, but it installs into PF (x86), so Chrome is not fully 64bit.

I am hoping someone might know how to help with this problem.

Thanks

Lee

16bit application

We are trying to build a thinapp package for a 16bit (Paradox) dos application.  When I try to build, I get the error that the "pdoxrun.exe" file is not a 32bit executable.   Of course it's not, that's the whole point of this exercise.  Any ideas how I can build a package to run this ancient DOS application?

Thanks

Hello,

I am evaluating Thinapp to distribute our software. For this I've captured a complete working SQL Express Express 2005 on a clean Virtual PC. after I try to logon to the database using the "SQL Server Management Studio" from the build I get the following error message "A connection was successfully established with the server ... during pre-login handshake (Shared Memory Provider, error:0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe) (Microsoft SQL server, error: 233)"

Does anyone recognize this problem or can help me with this problem?

Hi All,

I am very new to VMware Fusion.  I just installed MAYA 2009 on my PC guest. wich is running windows XP pro.  It works a little slow, but I can live with that.  I was able to map the insert key in the VMWare Fusion's key mapper but the alt key doesn't seem to work.  Any MAYA user will know this is crucial.  Does anyone know how to get the alt key working?  Thanks for your attention....

Hi,

we deploy a ThinApp with Word 2003. When a user is forced to update to "Creator Update" the ThinApp does not work anymore.

I think there would be the need of a fix from VMware, ist there something in the near timeline?

Sage Accpac Client

I'm trying to Thinapp the Sage Accpac Client.  On the build computer it runs and works fine, prior to building.  I build and then copy the .msi file to my workstation.

I install the .msi file on my workstation, and the accpac.exe application appears to run.  However, it requires a secondary process a4wsignon.exe to run in the background, and this is the piece that isn't working.

It crashes, and I get this message:

System error. Cannot connect to Sage Accpac Signon Manager.

Write down the message.  Exit Sage Accpac and Windows.  Restart and retry the operation.

Take a screenshot function in Firefox 68.x not working with ThinApp 5.2.x

Tried to capture Mozilla Firefox 68.0esr and 68.8.0esr using ThinApp 5.2.7.

The "screenshot capture" function no longer works in the virtualized app even though it works in the native install.

Does anyone know why? Is it some screenshot component (like a library) that ThinApp is not capturing?

Process (ifrun60.exe) remains active (Taskmanager) after closing thinapp under windows7 (xp works)

Hi,

I have installed "oracle forms6 runtime + reports" as a Thinapp. The Thinapp works fine. I can also open the thinapp a second or third time.

But when I close the Programm the process "ifrun60.exe" remains active (Oracle Forms Runform)!!

If I try to start the programm again it waits until i kill the "old" process. After killing the process the thinapp application starts.

The Problem occurs on Windows7 32bit and 64bit.

Under Windows XP the thinapp works fine.

I tried to build the thinapp and run the thinapp in compatibility mode (Windows XP SP3) but the problem was the same.

With Process Explorer i only found out that some Threads are running. (some with Wait:UserRequest some with Wait:wrQueue)

When I install the "oracle forms6 runtime + reports" as a regular application under windows 7 it works fine.

No processes remain open when I close the application.

Are there parameter/switches for the thinapp.

Any suggestions, ideas?

ThinApp Boot Loader Error - Mikromarc - Server 2016

Hi, I'm sure I have solved this before but I'm not able to find the solution for this now.

I'm trying to run it from network share as FQDN in UNC path, tried both DFS and without DFS, not working. If I copy the package locally it works fine.

Anyone knows what obvious thing I'm missing this time?

Also tried to enable the string SetVirtualModuleFileNameInPeb=1 as that worked for Chrome at some point earlier.

It's packaged with 5.2.2 on same OS it's supposed to be running on.

VMware-ThinApp-Enterprise-5.2.3 trial version installation problem for license

i have downloaded ThinApp trial ( VMware-ThinApp-Enterprise-5.2.3-6945559.exe) during installation it is asking for 25 character License key and License key Display name. my OS is Windows XP . i want to make virtual app of Internet explorer 8

Your Runtime License has Expired

I have a customer who downloaded and installed the 60-day Trial of ThinApp... by the 45th day or so, she liked it so much that she had

already virtualized about 3 dozen or so Apps... The License file was, of course, the Trial license...

Well, she just purchased and received her ThinApp "real" License, but not before the Trial one ran out...  So now, every time she launches

a ThinApp'd app, she immediately gets a small screen that says, "License Error:  Your Runtime License Has Expired"... She can only

click "OK", and that's it... Nothing else...

Where can I tell her to go, to input the new Production license file that she has just purchased, so that all her Apps "work" again?

Is she just hosed?  Will she have to re-virtualize all those Apps again?

Thanks.

Why does my Thinapp'd app try to open Excel as a different user profile?

$

I have Office 2007 installed locally on my Windows XP machine. Using ThinApp 4.5, I have thinapp's MS Great Plains 10, and for the most part it works great. Problem is when I try to do a smartlist and export the results to Excel, it fails saying that MS Excel is not installed. Same if I try to export to MS Word.

So I fire up the diag mode cmd.exe I created with the thinapp, and launch excel.exe.. It launches but goes thru the welcome wizard as if it's never been launched before.. and of course I've launched Excel locally several times. For some reason the thinapp is starting Excel as some other user profile. This is further confirmed by the fact that my 'Recent Documents" list in the locally launched Excel is different than if I launch Excel from the thinapp's cmd.exe. Running the exact same excel.exe mind you.. That's crazy.. Why does it do that?

I've managed a work around to get smartlist to actually export to Excel, by running appwiz.cpl from the diag mode cmd.exe and running a repair on Office 2007, it fails with an error 1719, but then I can export from GP to Excel, although still in some funky profile.. This work around would be fine if I only had to do it on a few PC's, but I have to do this workaround for every person that runs GP.. it's a pain!

Does this make sense? Why do locally installed Office apps not launch correctly from thinapp'd apps? Thanks for any help!!

ThinApp'ed Java application cannot open Excel 2016

$

Hello Folks,

We have ThinApp'ed into a MSI these applications:

- Mozilla Seamonkey, (32bit, FR, version 2.46)

- Java 8 (32bit, update 121)

We use it to access an in-house financial application at uses the Java Plugin.

Inside this application, Excel is used to generate reports.   Excel is installed locally on the workstation and is therefore not ThinApp'ed.

If we use Office 2013, everything works fine.   The secretary clicks the 'export to Excel' button in the Java application and Excel shows us the generated XLS file within Excel.

However, Office 2016 has a different behavior.  The Java application gives us an error saying that it could not open Excel 2016.   The only way to bypass this problem is to have an instance of Excel 2016 already opened.

Anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

Thank You!

I like to do odd things like back in the day I made packages of my games for learning/ reinstalling my applications when I format. I would like to virtualize my own applications but from what I am seeing to do it legitimatly it will cost me $5000 is this correct?
