ThinApp - Paint.NET problem.

Hello,

We have tried packaging Paint.NET but it did not work. We used a clean virtual machine while doing that but the resulting .exe file does not even work on the virtual machine although Paint.NET works on it.

.NET is packaged together with Paint.NET. The error is:

"Missing Import C:\Prpgram Files\paint.net\SxS\X86\ucrtbase.dll -> kernelbase.dll:CreateProcessA"

We have also tried copying .dll files in different directories but it is still not working.

Thanks in advance.

Note: Same problem with TortoiseSVN.

ThinApp 4.5 Released

Just a quick reminder, that ThinApp 4.5 got released.  Here are a few quick links:

Download: http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/desktop_downloads/vmware_thinapp/4_5

Release Notes: http://www.vmware.com/support/thinapp4/doc/releasenotes_thinapp45.html

What's New

The 4.5 release adds the following features to improve usability, performance, and updates:

  • Support for Windows Server 2008 R2, 32-bit Windows 7, and 64-bit Windows 7 operating systems.

  • ThinApp version updates to incorporate the latest features or support enhancements without rebuilding packages. The relink.exe utility updates existing packages.

  • Compression of MSI packages that uses the MSICompressionType parameter to improve the ThinApp SDK performance.

  • Reduced memory consumption and page file usage to improve startup performance. The OptimizeFor parameter works with the CompressionType parameter to customize memory performance and startup time.

  • Anonymous collection of statistics to expand the support for applications. You can use the Setup Capture wizard or the QualityReportingEnabled parameter to help VMware build support for applications and help you migrate more native applications to a virtual environment.

  • Loading of DLL files as virtual DLL files without using API functions. The ForcedVirtualLoadPaths parameter loads external system DLL files that depend on DLL files inside the package.

  • Product interface updates to improve usability and link to video and documentation information. German and Japanese versions of the ThinApp User's Guide are available.

Jonathan

I have tried several time to Thinapp Google Chrome (version 15.0.874.121 m) but keep running into problems. I will run the prescan, then install flash player and java, then install chrome and make the changes i need to for the broweser, then run the postscan. i choose the top google chrome.exe as my main entry point and unselect everything else, then build my package. I build it with a .DAT and a .MSI package. i then copy the packages out to our file server and then try to run them from a view desktop and i get the following error "Google Chrome.exe - Fatal Application Exit Unable to open. I press OK to the message and it dissapears. i have tried to build the package with multiple entry pointes to see if it works with no luck. I have even tried to package it using the .EXE instead of .DAT. Can someone please walk me through the steps needed to get chrome thinapped? The simpler the steps the better i will be able to understand.

Thanks

Thinapp and browsers (Chrome and Firefox), lots of issues

$

Hello:

Are there some guidelines or best practices for capturing Chrome and Firefox?  The reason I am asking is that we are having a bunch of issues with each.  In more detail:

Chrome: We thinapped the latest version of Chrome, without any additional plugins, with and without the --no-sandbox option per the KB article here:

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2104409VMware KB: Google Chrome fails when capturing Google Chrome with VMware ThinApp

This one works fine on the initial run, but after it is closed and opened a second time, it will not work properly after that.  It crashes, then upon re-launching it will consume 100% cpu and its window never opens even though the process is running.  If I clear the Thinapp sandbox folder for Chrome, it will open up fine for the first time, but when opening a second time the same issue comes back.

Firefox: We thinapped the latest version of Firefox, along with the latest Java 1.8.x, latest Flash, and VMware client integration plugin.  It worked fine for about a week then all of a sudden one day it no longer launches (and we haven't changed anything) with the error: Fatal Application Exit, Unable to Open.

I've been looking around and the information is fragmented.  I've seen posts with similar issues in the past but supposedly they were resolved with later versions of the Thinapp setup capture program which we are using the very latest and greatest version (5.1.1).  To my knowledge we are using best practices and using a bare minimum Windows 7 VM to capture with.  Any help would be appreciated, if there have been known working solutions or combinations of versions that work.

Thanks in advance.

Application detects debugger

$

Some applications don't want a debugger running when they are launched.  I recently experimented with packaging an application that uses SafeDisc protection, assuming that the user would have a legitimate copy of the application install media.  For some reason, this application claims that a debugger is present and exits when launched as a ThinApp 4.5 package.

I did some searching online and found an old newsgroup posting that pertained to Thinstall 2.x in which someone claimed that Thinstall used some code called OEP Finder that SafeDisc detects as a debugger.

My question is whether this is still relevant to ThinApp 4.5, and if so, is there a workaround?

Hello,

I have thinapped visio 2013, i followed the online guides.

When start the thinapp on another pc, the activaiton screen popus, wich offcourse make sense with a MAK key.

I do not want this screen to popup, so tried running a launch script (ospp.vbs /act) but within the thinapp the message: 'Error: The Software Protection Platform Service is not installed' appears.  But i can run 'net start osppsvc' and succesfully start/stop the service within my thinapp.

Anyone an idea how to fix this?

Thanks.

Hi,

I'd like to create this software CAD as portable.

At the end of the ThinApp wizard, ThinApp pre-select some entry points of my application.

How can I decide if I need to select other entry points ?

Usually I don't change anything, and when I test this application, an error occur '....impossible to load c:\Program files\SolidWorks Corp\SolidWorks\SolidWorks.exe....'

This software need some prerequisites, as Microsoft Search, Microsoft .net and other.

I red that I need to capture any prerequisites singularly.

I need to lunch this before my CAD portable or I can integrate together ?

Some suggestions ?

ThinApp XenApp 6 Management Console

$

Hello

I have been having issues trying to package the Citrix XenApp 6 Managemnt Console in Thinapp.  I was using ThinApp 4.5, and just tried on ThinApp 4.6.1 that was released recently.  Neither work, but have different symptoms.  In my ThinApp 4.5 packages the mmc.exe console cannot see the virtual file system, and will error with a file not found message.  In the ThinApp 4.6.1 packages I have tried the mmc.exe (32bit version) process spawns and closes over and over again using 100% cpu until I logoff or do a "taskkill /im mmc.exe /f" to kill them all.

I have also tried copying the mmc.exe file(s) into the virtual file system and also calling the MSC via a MMC.exe command line instead of using the launch exe the consoles uses by default.  So far I am not getting anywhere.

I have seen one other poster in another forum mentioning having similar problems before with the MMC console (for something else not xenapp, in Windows 7).  so I must wonder outloud in this forum, is this a known issue with MMC plug-ins on either Windows 7 or Windows 2008r2?  Has anyone packaged the XenApp 6 console before in ThinApp?  I have packaged XenApp 5 console in Thinapp 4.5 without any issue before.

The relevant difference I assume is the platform, which is of course Windows 2008r2 (which is 64-bit).

Thanks,

Bruce

Thinstall and SonicWall NetExtender

$

Hello,

To make a pre-configured environment for our tele-workers, we are exploring the possibilities with Thinstall. The aim is to have a kit on a USB the would allow them to truly work from anywhere without installing anything on their PC.

I tried making a package with the Sonicwall NetExtender application. This application opens the connection to our SSL-VPN gateway.  Package creation went smoothly without any errors or warnings.

Upon execution however we get the following error message "An damaged version NetExtender was detected on your computer, please reinstall NetExtender to fix the problem!"

Trying to force program execution anyway leads to further error messages and no connection can be established. Trying to run the LogMonitor gives a very lengthy report with very cryptic info that does not help me much.

Has anyone tried to package that application yet?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Need help to solve Java Virtual Machine capture failure in SAS?

$

I have been spending many hours trying to troubleshoot this problem without any success.

I am using ThinApp 4.02 in a virtual Vista Machine SP1 trying to capture SAS 9.2.

The captured client .exe works except for functions that require a Java Virtual Machine (JVM).

As part of the applications' installation procedure, it automatically install Java Runtime, which I verified was captured properly in the package.

However, for some reason, the Thinapp exe fails to see the Java Virtual Machine/runtime packaged in it.

Any idea to help me? Thanks.

Thinapp SnapViewer

This is a simple Microsoft Snapshot Viewer Application (*.SNP files)

The application Thinapps fine. If I open the application first, then load a file via File>Open. Everything works great. Running the Thinapp MSI creates the file association for the .snp files.

The problem occurs when one launches the .snp file itself. The VMware Thinapp popup loads then disappears. Here's the log file.

I've tried on the dirty machine, clean XP and clean Win7 and the behavior is all the same.

Packaging WinSCP

Hi guys, I'm attempting to package WinSCP 5.1.1 on a machine running Windows XP Pro SP3. The process runs through fine but when I attempt to run the packaged WinSCP executable I get the following error:

Unable to load DLL C:\Program Files\WinSCP\WinSCP.exe->DWMAPI.DLL

The specified module could not be found.

If I run the installed (non-packaged) program on that same machine it works fine.

I found this post: http://blogs.vmware.com/thinapp/2009/03/common-system32-dlls.html and followed that but unfortunately that couldn't help me out.

In my research I've found that a missing DWMAPI.DLL is probably not causing this error, but I can't figure out what DLLs I need to add to the package to get rid of it. Can anybody help me out?

Cheers,

Matt

How can I avoid to create the file "Registry.rw.tvr" or use the default settings of an app?

Hi there.

I have an issue.

I've modified the registry before the build, but when I run the app, It makes changes in the registry, those changes are stored in the virtual registry, of course. Than causes I cannot run the app with my modification.

Currently, I have to delete manually the file "Registry.rw.tvr" to make to work he app as I want, which is annoying.

How can I avoid to create the file "Registry.rw.tvr" or at least use the default settings of the virtual app?

.. Or do anyone know any way to handle with this problem?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT:

Use "RemoveSandboxOnExit" won't help, because It deletes the whole sandbox, so I could lose some important information store there.
