Thinapp R, RStudio, RTools and Rstan

Hello,

i'm trying to create a package with 4 statistical open source applications R, RStudio, RTools and Rstan.

Everything seems working fine in the composer machine (Tried WinXp, Win7-32 and 64). After installing and loading all dependecies, Rstan is installed. I try to load a basic function and the result is fine.

When i try to run the captured package in another machine i've got compilation error. Same result if i try to run the same script in the composer machine i've used for capture.

Does anybody have experience with this combination?

Thanks for attention

Regards

Nicola

i tried the switch: LoadDotNetFromSystem=Win7

I work with Win 7 64bit, because the programs have to run on Windows 2008 R2 and Win10 Clients.

Any virtualized application

I have noticed for some reason when you try to access certain

functions of virtualized software thinapp copies the dat file from the

installed location to the sandbox. This is fine for some apps but if

you start getting into the bigger application for example Flash CS3 or

Office 2007 coping a 1.6 + more gig files to the sandbox takes some

time, and it looks like the application is not responding.

Is this necessary? or is there a way i can stop it from doing this?

Thank you.

Bloated thinapped application

Bare with me I'm only a novice.  I found someone else who has thinstalled a similar application to mine.  He thinstalled it to less than 200Mb's.  My thinapped application is a whopping 750Mb's for the same app (different version)

I'm not sure how he got it so small.  I don't think it has anything to do with thinapp and thinstall differences but I don't know.  It's probably a stripped down version of the install, but I'm not sure how to do it.  I installed thinapp on a virtual desktop and ran it from there (I see no problem installing thinapp on the virtual desktop - but only because I have no idea how to setup a network share and run it from a crisp clean windowsXP environment - again, from an earlier post, maybe someone can point me in the right direction to do an example network share runthrough/tutorial of thinapp.

In any case I ran the capture, did a minimal install (my previous test was a full install and it ran out at 956 Mb's!), then ran the 2nd capture.  I selected USB and selected the copy/write isolation mode.  There were a few user exe entry points I selected.  Other than that I'm not sure how to deselect installed portions of the software.  Now the installation required the install of the java runtime environment, maybe this is where all those extra Mb's are but I'm not sure, it takes a few hours to complete a test app (very slow computer).  Also I did not select compressed because I remember reading somewhere that it doesn't make much of a difference.  But I could be wrong, maybe it does?  For interest, the MSI file it created was only 230 or so Mb's, that file is a compressed file so maybe that is my answer?  Use compressed?

Good news! ThinApp 4.0.1 is now available for download (as of 4pm PST Dec 4th 2008)

This a maintenance release that addresses a number of known issues. It also delivers some nice additions to utilities within the ThinApp Suite including the ThinReg application. You can find out the more about the contents of this release here at http://www.vmware.com/support/thinapp4/doc/releasenotes_thinapp401.html

Thanks so much for your interest. We would love to hear what you think.

Printing in Office 2007

I've captured Office 2007 sp2 with Thinapp 4.0.3.  When we try to print out of Outlook, Visio, powerpoint, we get "printers not installed"  We can print out of word, excel and other apps in the package.

We also have an issue in OneNote,  I am

unable to select the color pen palette in OneNote 2007. It would be

available at first, but once I selected a pen color, the whole palette

would then become greyed out.

I used a clean WinXP sp2 workstation to capture on.

Any Ideas?

ThinApp vs. XenApp

$

We are looking at implementing VMWare View and ThinApp in our environment. For the most part we have been happy with what we have seen. However, one question has come up. Citrix's XenApp has the ability to essentially provide applications to anyone, anwhere and on any device by using "hosted application delivery". One of the possible initiatives that could come out of a ThinApp rollout would be to provide our third party partners the ability to run one of our applications to enter application data. We don't want them to have a virtual desktop, we only want them to have the icon on their desktop and then they can get to that one application.

From what I am seeing I don't see where ThinApp would provide this functionality....yet. Is this true? Does anyone know if VMWare has any way to do this or are they working on this type of access?

We really need to know this before we promise our executives something, have them commit a lot of money and then say "sorry we thought we could do this but we can't".

Thanks.

Running the Locally Installed Internet Explorer Through ThinApp

Referring to post on virtualizing IE http://blogs.vmware.com/thinapp/2009/02/ie_notes.html

I have a requirement to virtualize an activex component and would like to use the locally installed IE instance instead of packaging it.

The post refers to the fact that it can be done, but not exactly how.

Could somebody please explain how one invokes the locally installed IE with an ocx that is installed in a virtual thinapp bubble ?

Thanks

Unable to load required Type Library C:\Program Files\ThinstallPlugins\scripting.dll

Hi all,

I'm a newby for ThinApp, and I'm having this problem with a package, maybe someone could help with.

One of my packages runs perfectly as it is, but I need to add a vbs script to have it do something before the application starts. However, as soon as I add ANY script to the package and rebuild, I get this error on startup of the application:

Scripting System:

Unable to load required Type Library

C:\Program Files\ThininstallPlugins\scripting.dll

Error Code=0x8007000e

I can see scripting.dll being added to the build at the end of the building process, so that's not the problem.

The same thing happens when I build the application without a script, but applink it to another application that does have a script inside. (Although this second application runs fine when run on its own, and the script executes without problem).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Vincent

Thinapped Firefox problem using userChrome.css

Hi guys,

I got a weird problem using a thinapped FF (no matter which version) and a so called userChrome.css (same issue using a userContent.css too)

when I'm trying to put a userChrome.css into FF's profile (%AppData%/Mozilla/Firefox/profiles/.../chrome/userChrome.css) - the thinapped FF does NOT recognize that file and isn't able to use the containing codes.

Why? This only happens to a thinapped FF...

Anyone got an explanation for that behaviour?

Thanks in advance

AppSync w/ AppLink

I've seen some question regarding this, but they seem to be from several releases back.  Can AppLink'd packages now be updated through AppSync, when they are only dependencies (ie. not launched as .exe)?  Assuming the answer is 'no', what's the best course of action for updating these dependency-only type packages when everything else is being updated via AppSync?

Thanks

Hello,

I'm using ThinApp SAP GUI 7.20. It's based on ThinApp 4.7

When using the ThinApp SAP GUI, I'm unable to launch the SAP GUI through command prompt sapgui <server name> <nr>.

Is this a known issue with ThinApp SAP GUI?

How to overcome this problem?

Please advice if anyone has any pointers about it.

Thanks.

Cisco Jabber Client 9.0.x ThinApp Issues

$

I am currently having an issue with Cisco Jabber Client ThinApp running on Windows 7 remembering the login credentials on startup.

BACKGROUND:

We are in the process of updating our VDI environment to Windows 7. Our current environment is running Windows XP SP3 in a non-persistent configuration.  Initially I built the thinapp using ThinApp Version 4.7 on a clean Windows XP VM.  The ThinApp works fine under Windows XP but for some reason on Windows 7 it refuses to remember the login information from session to session.  If I open it, log in, exit and then relaunch it remembers it in the same session.

I have also installed Jabber on the Parent VM and it has the same issue.

I am just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue?  Is anyone else using the Cisco Jabber Client?

Thanks,

Jon

Virtualizing RSAT with ThinApp 5 - MMC MSC problems

$

Hi All,

After a few months of browsing, I am finally posting something because I need help!  If I can get this problem solved, I plan on publishing a new recipe here to the discussion boards to benefit those who are running into the very same problem.

I have done *tons* of searching on this topic; add command-line attributes to the Package.ini file; use the /32 switch for MMC...none of which are working for me:

- ThinApp version 5.0.0-1391583

- Windows 7 SP1 x86 (clean install, joined to domain, using admin account to package apps)

After installing RSAT to my VM, when attempting to start AD Users and Computers, I get this error message:

"MMC cannot open the file C:\Windows\system32\dsa.msc

This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC.  This may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the file"

My ThinApp and target VMs are both running the exact same Windows 7 SP1 x86 build, so I know it's not a platform issue (and people have done this before me, so....)

For what it's worth, Active Directory Administrative Center works fine, so does the PowerShell snap in.

AD Domains and Trusts, AD Sites and Services, AD Users and Computers, Certification Authority, DFS, DNS, File Server Resource Manager, and Group Policy Management all exhibit this error.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

ThinApp failed to open, find, or create Sandbox directory.

I have made a thinapp for MS Office 2007 Pulisher.  It is deployed to a test linked clone pool.  The users profiles are on a separate D: drive.  The Thinapp gets deployed properly, but when the user starts the app I get the following:

ThinApp failed to open, find, or create Sandbox directory.

Registry probe failed for c:\users\testuser\appdata\roaming\microsoft office Publisher

It seems it's assuming the user profiles are in c: and not d:

how can I change this in package.ini?

thanks all.

Oracle SQL Developer Thinapp?

Hello,

I'm trying to create a thinapp for SQL Developer, but the app doesn't install like a typical app, and only runs from a folder. I'm not sure if this can be done in thinapp, and I can't find any solid sources on it being done. Does anybody know how to do this, or if it's even possible?

Thanks,

Mark

ThinApp Microsoft Office 365 Elements (Visio and Project)

$

Hi,

I have tried many times to thinapp visio and project (part of Microsoft office 365 click-to-run version). I have captured them on both machine that has got Office 365 click-to-run installed and with the one that had no office installed. Vision and Project are not deployed on our build image (Gold image) and this will need to be packaged so we can delopy them to the some selected users. Has anyone managed to thinapp any of Office 365 products.

After capturing, It runs only in the task manager for some few seconds and goes off with not coming up.

Many Thanks

Windows 10 Thinapps - Slow Launch on Thinapp 5.2

$

Fortunately we've made progress since Thinapp 5.2 enables support for Windows 10, however every package that we've rebuilt with Windows 10 has the same issue. It can take anywhere from 1 minutes to 3 minutes to actually open. Once open, the application appears to function normally.

Is anyone else seeing this? I can't seem to find any posts regarding this issue but for us its happening on physical and virtual windows 10 machines.

I haven't tried to fully repackage an application on 5.2 yet but hoping that won't be required.

Any advice would be appreciated, if not then I'll go ahead and see if we can start a ticket on it.
