White screen in thinapp of Firefox, thinapp not working - Firefox version 50 and higher

$

Hi everyone,

we're experiencing another problem with the thinapp of Firefox; since Mozilla Firefox 50.x, the thinapp the packaged application only shows a white screen, even without the menubar.

We've seen this problem in Firefox versions 50.0.2, 50.1.0, 51.0 and 51.0.1.

Thinapps of Firefox versions 49.0.2 and lower, work fine.

We've tried:
- 32b Firefox
- 64b Firefox
- Thinapp 5.2.2
- Thinapp 5.1.0
- base image (only OS)
- production image
- and all combinations of the above

Our OS is Windows 7 (Enterprise N), SP1, 64b.

As a build option in the package.ini, necessarry since Firefox version 49.x, we added
ExternalDLLs=ucrtbase.dll

We ran LogMonitor but couldn't identify the problem.

Does anyone encounter the same issues?
And if so, and when solved, what was the solution to the problem?

I attached a printscreen of the empty/white firefox screen and the LogMonitor-file.

Does anyone have an idea to the solution?

Thanks
Jousma

ThinDirect IE11 - Thinapp 5.1.1

We have a requirement, where Snipping Tool and Printscreen should be disabled when browsing a particular internal website. The browser installed in image is IE11. To programmatically disable Printscreen and snipping tool, we choose the option of Thindirect in conjunction with thinapp application (launch native ie with url along with  thinapp script to disable screen capture using the two tools and ). The thinapp application works as expected. When thindirect is implemented via GPO, it enters an infinite loop where redirection is invoked over and over again!

The solutions mentioned before like include ThinDirect.txt with entry to the application and ThindirectWhitelistOnly=0 is attempted already, but in vain. The URL syntax is like *.mydomain.mychoice. Any suggestions on thindirect for IE11 using v5.1.1?

Thinapp Permitted Groups

If I specify only certain groups for authorization during package creation, or later in the .ini file under "PermittedGroups", what happens when I assign that ThinApp package to a desktop pool?  Will the ThinApp package only show up for those users I specified?  or will it show up for all users and give everyone else an "access denied"?

Troubleshooting "failed to create process default activation context"

I'm trying to thinstall some tutorials from the "Professor Teachers..." series.

When I run then exe, I get "failed to create process default activation context".  The program seems to run fine, once you acknowelege the error.  I have checked the system logs, but the error isn't logged so I don't know what file or resource it is trying to access.  I am new to thinstall and I would like to know how to troubleshoot an error like this.  Thank you.

"failed to create process default activation context" For some users and not others?!

Hello,

We are trialing thinapp to specificaly fix an issue we are having. I'm very new to Thinapp so please bare with me if theres thing you need me to check.

I have packaged IE6 with a version of Java. I did this on a bare XP workstation with nothing but VMware tools running. the XP workstation had a full windows update before the pre-scan was performed.

The application will be run on a Server 2008 64 bit citrix farm and when i log in and run the application it works fine as it does for my test user. I published this for testing by or users and a lot of them get the error "failed to create process default activation context".

From what I have read, this is due to a file missing from the package or something missing on the host OS however I'm not sure how this can be.

Any ideas?

Setup Capture not restarting after prescan

I have now experienced this happen a few times on applications that force a reboot. Has anyone else had this problem ?

After doing a prescan and installing the application a forced reboot occurs. When the application restarts the setup capture does not recognise that a prescan has taken place.

Can anyone tell me what the command line syntax is to launch a post scan ?

I have also noticed that the HKEY_CURRENT_SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\RUN is empty as if its been wiped. Any help on this would be welcome

Office 2013(Including Visio 2013, Project 2013) Thinapp compatibility on Windows 8.1

$

Hi,

In this article VMware KB:     Packaging guide for ThinApp 5.x and Microsoft Office 2013 It says that there is currently no support for Office 2013 and Thinapp on Windows 8.1.

Is this still a known issue or is there ANY workarounds here?

I see that in most packaging guides you need to stop the osppsvc service, but I cant find that service on Windows 8.1 (also checked when having opened Office). Is this the reason why its not supported?

It would be appreciated if someone could give us some clues on when or if this will be supported?

This is an important question that comes up when making larger design decisions for our VDI infrastructure, regarding having Office 2013 applications virtualized or native installed on the parent image.

We have Office 2013 on the image already, but this actually regards Project 2013 and Visio 2013, but it looks like the licensing issue is impacting the whole Office 2013 suite family.

Windows 10 Thinapps - Slow Launch on Thinapp 5.2

Fortunately we've made progress since Thinapp 5.2 enables support for Windows 10, however every package that we've rebuilt with Windows 10 has the same issue. It can take anywhere from 1 minutes to 3 minutes to actually open. Once open, the application appears to function normally.

Is anyone else seeing this? I can't seem to find any posts regarding this issue but for us its happening on physical and virtual windows 10 machines.

I haven't tried to fully repackage an application on 5.2 yet but hoping that won't be required.

Any advice would be appreciated, if not then I'll go ahead and see if we can start a ticket on it.

Hi.

If user doesn't launch OCR Foxit stops normally.

Did somebody resolve similar problem?

IE 8 and Java 1.5 Update 8 JRE not loading

I am attempting to crate an IE 8 ThinApp and AppLink JRE 1.5u8 using the following articles:

Step by Step Instructions on How to ThinApp Newer Java Versions - VMware ThinApp Blog - VMware Blogs

How to package Internet Explorer 8 - VMware ThinApp Blog - VMware Blogs

Now, I have tried the AppLink approach, as well as integrating Java in IE before doing a post scan. No matter how I what I try, I always get the following message when attempting to start an applet in the IE ThinApp:

30-11-2017 08-47-22.png

In the project directory, under %ProgramFilesDir%\Java\jre1.5.0_08\bin, there is no server directory, which is correct. The server directory should only be available when installing the JDK, not the JRE. Nonetheless, I vopied the client dir and renamed it to server, but I am still receiving the same error.

I am doing all capturing on a Windows XP Sp 2 32-bit OS, and would like to run this on a Windows 7 64-bit system. I have not been able to find a solution to this problem anywhere.

I am using ThinApp Setup Capture v5.2.2

Visio 2010 Thinapp issue

$

Hi,

I am packaging Visio 2010 for a client to run on Windows 7 64bit. I have tried packaging it following the various guides I have found such as:

VMware KB: Packaging guide for ThinApp 5.x and Microsoft Office 2010

ThinApp Microsoft Visio and Project 2010 while locally installed Microsoft Office 2010 | VMware ThinApp Blog - VMware Bl…

For the most part the app works. However the user's My documents directory is redirected to a network location, and Visio throws "an error (126) occurred during the action Save." whenever you try to save to that directory or one of the sub directories.

The file will save successfully either locally, or to any non-redirected network location.

The user has full control access over the folder, and can manually copy the file to the directory after successfully saving the file elsewhere.

This appears to be an issue with thinapp and the folder redirection. Locally installed Visio does not experience the same issue.

This issue is not happening to the Project 2010 thinapp that was created following the same guides.

Any suggestions?

ThinApp Script to terminate child processes

$

Working on virtualizing Quickbooks 2012 Premier with Eval version of ThinApp 4.7.

QB leaves 3 or 4 processes running after closing QB that consume too much RAM to keep running indefinitely in a Remote Desktop environment, so I'd like them to terminate along with QuickBooks. My experiments thus far show no ill effects from doing so, aside from longer QB load times. And it has the side-benefit of preventing background QB updates, which, here, is desireable.

I am including a VBScript with my package that works correctly outside the bubble, but does not work at all when run from the OnFirstParentExit callback. The relevant code follows:

Function OnFirstParentExit     Dim objWMIService     Dim colProcess     Dim objProcess     strComputer = "."     Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")     Set colProcess = objWMIService.ExecQuery("SELECT * FROM Win32_Process")     For Each objProcess in colProcess          If InStr(UCase(objProcess.Name), "QUICKBOOKS") > 0 Then               objProcess.Terminate          End If     Next
End Function

I've verified that closing QB does, in fact, run this procedure, by adding a Wscript.Echo statement.

Is it not possible to terminate these processes from a script within the bubble? If so, is there a way to have OnFirstParentExit run this procedure outside the bubble?

TIA

Unable to load required Type Library C:\Program Files\ThinstallPlugins\scripting.dll

Hi all,

I'm a newby for ThinApp, and I'm having this problem with a package, maybe someone could help with.

One of my packages runs perfectly as it is, but I need to add a vbs script to have it do something before the application starts. However, as soon as I add ANY script to the package and rebuild, I get this error on startup of the application:

Scripting System:

Unable to load required Type Library

C:\Program Files\ThininstallPlugins\scripting.dll

Error Code=0x8007000e

I can see scripting.dll being added to the build at the end of the building process, so that's not the problem.

The same thing happens when I build the application without a script, but applink it to another application that does have a script inside. (Although this second application runs fine when run on its own, and the script executes without problem).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Vincent

I have tried several time to Thinapp Google Chrome (version 15.0.874.121 m) but keep running into problems. I will run the prescan, then install flash player and java, then install chrome and make the changes i need to for the broweser, then run the postscan. i choose the top google chrome.exe as my main entry point and unselect everything else, then build my package. I build it with a .DAT and a .MSI package. i then copy the packages out to our file server and then try to run them from a view desktop and i get the following error "Google Chrome.exe - Fatal Application Exit Unable to open. I press OK to the message and it dissapears. i have tried to build the package with multiple entry pointes to see if it works with no luck. I have even tried to package it using the .EXE instead of .DAT. Can someone please walk me through the steps needed to get chrome thinapped? The simpler the steps the better i will be able to understand.

Thanks

Running Windows 7 32 Bit

Running ThinApp Setup Capture 4.6.2-467908

I follow these steps:

Step by Step Instructions on How to ThinApp Newer Java Versions | VMware ThinApp Blog - VMware Blogs

I realize these instructions are a few years old.  I do get some issues.

1)  I do not get the option to customize the Java install

2)  Internet Explorer 8 does not show me to under Manage  Add-Ons JQSIEStartDetectorImpl Class  I do disable both SSV Helper Classess.  I leave the Java pluging

3)  When I do a post scan, I uncheck all and check for debug options but iexplore.exe isn't one of them for an entry point

4)  I checked java.exe as my entry point since one is required

5)  I edited the package.ini and the project as stated

6)  I build it

7)  We use a central location on the network for thinapps.  I place it there.

8)  Thru a Virtual Desktop I verify that I am running 6.16

9)  I go to the network location and execute bin\java.exe or %ProgramFilesDir%\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe

10)  Open IE and test the version.  Still 6.16

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!
