Mozilla FireFox ThinApp - flash player not work

$

Dear all,

we are searching the correct way to ThinApp Mozilla FireFox version 45, we've tried everything that we found in internet, any user guide ..but it was useless.. no one of this works well.

Each time we want to start Adobe Flash Player version test, on this link https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html, we get this error;

************************************

Unable to load DLL

C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\FlashPlayerPugin_21_0_0_213.exe -> COMDLG32.dll

Access Denied.

************************************

We also tried to ThinApp Adobe Flash Player separately and link it to the project through package.ini with command "OptionalAppLinks=plugins\*.exe" but for Firefox doesn't work, it works very well for Internet Explorer.

As last test we've tried to install directly on base image on local machine but we get the same error message.

There are some suggestions ?

Disable ThinApp Pop-up

Does anyone know if it is possible to disable the pop-up that appears in the bottom right corner of the screen when starting a ThinApp application? I've been searching through the documentation and the internet and I haven't seen anything on this.

Your Runtime License has Expired

I have a customer who downloaded and installed the 60-day Trial of ThinApp... by the 45th day or so, she liked it so much that she had

already virtualized about 3 dozen or so Apps... The License file was, of course, the Trial license...

Well, she just purchased and received her ThinApp "real" License, but not before the Trial one ran out...  So now, every time she launches

a ThinApp'd app, she immediately gets a small screen that says, "License Error:  Your Runtime License Has Expired"... She can only

click "OK", and that's it... Nothing else...

Where can I tell her to go, to input the new Production license file that she has just purchased, so that all her Apps "work" again?

Is she just hosed?  Will she have to re-virtualize all those Apps again?

Thanks.

An issue with ThinApp on Windows 10 1709

Hi All,

This is my first question in this community. I'm currently evaluating VMware ThinApp, version 5.2.3.

I'm trying to pack our desktop application for running it later from a CD. The final product will hold some medical data given to our customers along with a viewer to open the data.

We're planning to use ThinApp to pack our software that reads from the registry, so that it works without having to use registry keys on customer's computers.

Now, all this works very well on Windows 7. However, when I try to run the packed program on the latest Windows 10 (Fall Creators Update, build 1709) I'm getting these errors:

Error.JPG

Followed by:

Error2.JPG

I'm running the packed application from a desktop computer (not a CD, yet).

I've tried everything I could think of and I'm a bit clueless...

Does ThinApp 5.2.3 actually support Windows 10 build 1709? Or is it something else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Trying to use ThinApp unsuccessfully

Hello,

We have been using XenApp for the past several years and our contract has ended with Citrix.  We are looking at using ThinApp to run our application.  I've run through the ThinApp Setup Capture multiple times and have not been able to get anything to work.  I've tried Opera as in the video examples, something simple like notepad, but nothing runs after I've created it.  Errors only.  The app I'm trying to use starts up but it doesn't load any of the config for it so it just closes.  Am I missing something obvious here?

I have tried it on Win10 and Win Server 2016.

Thinapp Firefox ESR Issue - The address isn't valid error

Hello Guys,

I have recently struggling with Firefox ESR thinapp, actually it already happened in previous version 38.8.0 ESR, but I was able to fix that issue by this guide :

1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste pref and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.preferences.inContent preference to switch it from true to false

But since FF is changing the policy as stated in this from them :

Firefox 38 switched from a pop-up Options dialog to an "in tab" options page. Some users are finding that it doesn't work for them, but so far we haven't identified the reason - and this - Note: I don't know whether that will be in Firefox forever or is a transitional feature. As you've probably noticed, the long-term trend is to remove things that pop up.

It looks it already came and I am not able to fix that (should be since version 42) for the last 45.2.0 ESR version in thinapp. When I install the FF, all works, but when I get the packaged FF by thinapp, then it does not work. All like about:home, about:preferences, about:newtab etc. command does not work, even some https links.

I have tried to thinapp it by also older version, but no success. Currently we use last 5.2.1 .

Would you know what can be wrong there with FF? Anyone of you have the same?

Thanks in advance for any advice. Pakcage.ini attached

WriteProcessMemory Function not working in Virtualised App

$

Hi,

I have been using ThinApp for some time now without any problems.

Recently I virtualised a program, that uses ReadProcessMemory and WriteProcessMemory function to interact with other processes. The program works flawless if it is not virtualised. But once I virtualise it, the WriteProcessMemory functionality does not work at all, while all the functions relating to readProcessMemory work fine.

I thought, that it might have to do with the Isolation modes and I tryed all three Isolationmodes, but the problem remins.

Why does WriteProcessMemory not work in virtualised applications?

I'm using latest ThinApp on windows 10 64 Bit.

GraphOn GO-Global compatibility issue

GraphOn GO-Global is an application publishing service similar to what Citrix provides. A demo can be downloaed at http://www.graphon.com  for testing.

There is one feature that is broken when publishing a ThinApp. GraphOn maps clientside drives for the published application, however this doesn't work with a ThinApp'd application. When this feature is enabled, the thinapp will not start. IIRC the thinapp logs show a file not found or something similar.

Why would ThinApp conflict with mapping clientside drives?

The map client drives feature can be enabled/disabled from the GraphOn cluster manager.

Currently using beta 3.386.

Thanks

Hi,

If i copy the DLL to the local Disk the Program starts.

How i can tell the ThinApp Packager to use the DLL inside the ThinApp Application?

How to avoid creating massive size of thumbcache_.db?

$

For some reasons, for some of the apps I thinapp'd, when they are run on systems other than the (clean) system used to create them, there are .db files (such as thumbcache_96.db, thumbcache_256.db) created under %Local AppData%/Microsoft/Windows/Explorer in my Thinstall directory, all of which can be near 500MB each!

Long ago, I had created simliar app with Thinstall (the predecessor of ThinApp) and this problem never comes up!

What has changed? What can I do prevent this from happening? All the Thinstall directories of the ThinApps .exe I now created are nearly 1GB big each!

putting build dir in source code control

hiya, i want to put the Captures\MyApp directory under source control -- specifically subversion.  when you add dirs into svn it adds a .svn dir underneath every directory which contains meta-data plus the last reversion you had from trunk.

so, is it possible in Package.ini to tell it to exclude all .svn directories when i run the build script?

thx in advance,

Windows Journal 64bit Portable help

Windows Journal  has been for long time a simple free Win utility for (mainly) freehand writing.

With Win10 (pro and enterprise) it has been removed due to fears of security.

Is there someone here kind enough that is able to build a Portable 64 bit version.

The utility can be downloaded here:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=53003

With ThinApp I built a 32bit version for winXp few years ago, but it does not run on Win10 64bit. And unfortunately I do not have admin rights to access Win10 machines, so to installed it.

Thanks

Does anyone have an idea to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Guidance on Relinking Streaming Apps with Side by Side Upgrade

$

Looking for some clarity on a couple of areas related to relinking Thinapps as I'm either reading conflicting statements or am having trouble finding concrete information. We have a lot of streaming Thinapps (MSIStreaming=1) that were build on v 5.1.x of the runtime and we are looking to update them in place to 5.2.2. KB article #2030593 states that ALL files in the .\bin\ directory need to be relinked, which for many of these means it will relink .EXEs, .MSIs, .DATs and .DAT.ALTs.

Now, because they are streaming, I can't exactly just copy/paste the new packages over the existing ones. Nor can I relink in place (I think; this didn't seem to work when I tried in. The process completes successfully, but running EXE -thinstallversion still reported the old runtime version). So as I understand, the side by side/in-place upgrade method is preferred here.

Now, when I do an in-place upgrade, the product literature states that I simply need to copy/paste and rename the updated PDC, not the entry points (this seems to conflict with the instructions for running relink that states I need to relink everything under .\bin\). Along with this, if there are .DAT.ALT files, I understand I also need to update these in addition to the PDC/.DAT file. I assume this means I need the relinked version of this too? What about the .MSI file? It's not technically an "entry point", but nor is it the PDC. Does this have to be relinked and does it need to be updated as part of the in-place upgrade process (ie: copy/paste and renamed to .MSI.1)?

I tested one scenario where I only updated the .DAT file (as .DAT.1) and none of the .DAT.ALT, .MSI or .EXE files. If I run EXE -thinstallversion on one of the entry points, it correctly reports the new version of the runtime, but I honestly don't know if that's the correct approach.

Accessing files in the same folder as the ThinApp executable

I have an interesting use case that I am trying to get working with my current ThinApp trial, to see if it is useful for our current environment.

- I have an application that is ~5Gb

- It may be installed in any number of locations on a client PC

- There are multiple, different, optional patches for this application that are ~500Mb each

- A user of the application will only have at most one of these patches installed at a time

- Some users will still be using the original base install and have no requirement for installing any patch

- When installed, these patches irreversibly modify the base application, and it needs to be reinstalled to switch to another patch

- There is no desire or requirement to package the base app itself, as this is generally deployed by an existing method

My hope was that I could package each patch up as a ThinApp (with a "Package X.exe" and "Package X.dat") and allow users to simply place them in the application folder.

This would allow the original app to remain unmodified, but when run inside the sandbox it would contain the modified data from the relevant patch

The blocker I have reached is that it doesn't seem possible to have the "current folder" as an expandable macro anywhere.

Ideally the package would simply contain the modified patch files and folders, and be run from the application folder, using "current folder" as merged.

The workaround I am considering at the moment is to use a script to locate the existing install on the machine, copy the patched files from wherever they are in the package over to that location (resulting in them being present in the sandbox), then launching the application.

Unfortunately, this results in extremely long load times (if sandbox is cleared on exit), or duplication of data (each patch is now stored both in the .dat file and in the sandbox).

Is there an easy method to have files packaged into the "folder where the thinapp is being executed"?

Get the correct local IP address from java applet

$

Hello all, I have Problem go through it!

I would like to determine the local IP address from my java applet. The problem is when there are several IP adresses on the same machine, which has LAN and internet connections (palm, VMWare...).

Here is my test :

public static void main(String[] args) {   try {   String hostName = InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostName();   System.out.println("HostName = " + hostName);   System.out.println("HostAddressLocal = " +   InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostAddress());   InetAddress[] inetAddresses = InetAddress.getAllByName(hostName);   for (InetAddress inetAddress : inetAddresses) {   System.out.println("hostAddress = " + inetAddress.getHostAddress());   }   } catch (Exception e) {  e.printStackTrace();   }   }

The result is :

  HostName = xxxx    HostAddressLocal = xx.xx.xx.xx    hostAddress = 10.10.11.51    hostAddress = 192.168.23.1    hostAddress = 192.168.106.1

where xx.xx.xx.xx isn't the correct address. The correct is 10.10.11.51.

EDIT in response to jarnbjo :

Your Crystal Report ball say the truth. You've understand my problem. The client can connect through a proxy so I can not use your first point. If I execute this code below on my computer :

Socket s = new Socket("www.w3c.org", 80);     InetAddress ip = s.getLocalAddress();     System.out.println("Internet IP = " + ip.toString());     s.close();

I have this result :

    >> Internet IP = /127.0.0.1

And not 10.10.11.51

Thanks

ThinApp Boot Loader Error - Mikromarc - Server 2016

Hi, I'm sure I have solved this before but I'm not able to find the solution for this now.

I'm trying to run it from network share as FQDN in UNC path, tried both DFS and without DFS, not working. If I copy the package locally it works fine.

Anyone knows what obvious thing I'm missing this time?

Also tried to enable the string SetVirtualModuleFileNameInPeb=1 as that worked for Chrome at some point earlier.

It's packaged with 5.2.2 on same OS it's supposed to be running on.
