Office 2010 + Project 2010 thinapp

Hi,

I have a base image that includes an install of Office 2010. I've created a MS Project 2010 thinapp, if I run this on a machine that doesn't already have office installed it runs fine but if office is installed I get "Microsoft Office  cannot verify the license for this application. A repair attempt failed  or was canceled by the user. The Application will now shut down."

I've checked out the advice in this vmware KB article: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1022287

and it looks like I'm hitting:

"Office  2010 may fail to launch or terminate with an error if deployed to an  operating system that already has an Office 2010 component natively  installed."

Has anyone had any similar experiences?

Reading the client registry directly

Sorry for this question, but I have not had any luck in finding or perhaps understanding the answer through searching the online documentation.

I need to look at the client registry directly to determine if there a specific registry entry.  In this case, I need to access the client registry and not the sandbox/thinapp registry.

How do I do this from within my application?

Attached is my Package.ini file

Thank You!

Downloads not available with ThinApp virtualised Internet Explorer 10

I am attempting to virtualise Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 7 x64 to deploy on Windows 10 x64.

I can successfully virtualise this using ThinApp, however when using the virtualised copy on Windows 10, I am unable to download any files and also cannot access the downloads area within Internet Explorer either from the menu or using the CTRL+J keyboard shortcut.

Anybody seen this behaviour before or managed to get downloads working with ThinApp virtualised Internet Explorer?

Thanks

Hello,

I am trying to ThinApp Mozilla Firefox v52 using ThinApp v5.2.2.

This is on a Windows 7 VM.

When I try to launch the ThinApp on my Windows 7 workstation, I receive an error that reads...Missing Import C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\ucrtbase.dll->kernelbase.dll:CreateProcessW.

Does anyone know how to correct this? I currently have Firefox v49 ThinApp'd and it works fine, but the newer versions have this issue.

Many thanks for any help you can provide!!

Thinapp 5.0, removable disk and ghost drive letters

I'm using some simple applications packaged with Thinapp 5.0.  When a thinapped V5 app is running and I eject a removable disk such as usb flash disk, the drive letter remain assigned.

When a removable disk is re-inserted, the next available letter will be assigned..

The only way to reclaimed the "ghost" driver letters is to close any thinapped application..

Any clues?

ThinApp SAP 6.4 gui - DLL problems

Hey guys. I am having major problems with SAP ThinApp. When I try to execute the shortcut, I get an error message "This application has failed to start because msvcp71.dll was not found". This DLL file is inside the %SystemSystem% folder. It seems that it is not being loaded at all. I can manually copy this file to system32, but I shouldn't have to do that.

Has anyone encounetered any similar DLL problems, and what did you do to resolve. Thanks a lot.

Thinapp and browsers (Chrome and Firefox), lots of issues

$

Hello:

Are there some guidelines or best practices for capturing Chrome and Firefox?  The reason I am asking is that we are having a bunch of issues with each.  In more detail:

Chrome: We thinapped the latest version of Chrome, without any additional plugins, with and without the --no-sandbox option per the KB article here:

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2104409VMware KB: Google Chrome fails when capturing Google Chrome with VMware ThinApp

This one works fine on the initial run, but after it is closed and opened a second time, it will not work properly after that.  It crashes, then upon re-launching it will consume 100% cpu and its window never opens even though the process is running.  If I clear the Thinapp sandbox folder for Chrome, it will open up fine for the first time, but when opening a second time the same issue comes back.

Firefox: We thinapped the latest version of Firefox, along with the latest Java 1.8.x, latest Flash, and VMware client integration plugin.  It worked fine for about a week then all of a sudden one day it no longer launches (and we haven't changed anything) with the error: Fatal Application Exit, Unable to Open.

I've been looking around and the information is fragmented.  I've seen posts with similar issues in the past but supposedly they were resolved with later versions of the Thinapp setup capture program which we are using the very latest and greatest version (5.1.1).  To my knowledge we are using best practices and using a bare minimum Windows 7 VM to capture with.  Any help would be appreciated, if there have been known working solutions or combinations of versions that work.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

we deploy a ThinApp with Word 2003. When a user is forced to update to "Creator Update" the ThinApp does not work anymore.

I think there would be the need of a fix from VMware, ist there something in the near timeline?

Virtual Registry allocation problem

Hello,

I noticed a problem with the Virtual Registry allocation.

In some application that use to create some registry values and then destroy them the virtual registry space is never released and execution after execution of the program the virtual registry size is never compacted but it continues to grow.

I was able to reproduce it.

Basically if in HKCU you create a subkey (example: myKEY) and under this key you do this:

for N = 1 to 3000 {

create string value named myVal[N] and assign some random generated string

create string value named myVal[N+1] and assign some random generated string

create string value named myVal[N+2] and assign some random generated string

create string value named myVal[N+3] and assign some random generated string

create string value named myVal[N+4] and assign some random generated string

delete the string value myVal[N]

delete the string value myVal[N-1]

delete the string value myVal[N-2]

delete the string value myVal[N-3]

delete the string value myVal[N-4]

}

you will see that at the end of the 3000 cycles the registry key myKey is empty but the virtual registry file will be big.

If you will use the virtual registry tool to display the stats you will see that more than the 80% is not used.

Running again the 3000 (or more cycles) the registry will continue to grow.

Can you fix this issue? At least should be nice that when the virtual program terminates (or when it starts) the virtual registry will be compacted (like exporting it and reimporting it again).

Kind regards,

Hi All, I am new to End user computing product of VMware. I saw license of Thin-app purchased in the inventory but with different variants (thinapp 4 client 200 clients, thinapp 4 client legacy 50 clients, thinapp 4 packager legacy 5 instance, thinapp 4 virtualisation packager3 instance).

When I saw thinapp 5 or above it has no variants like this.

SPSS 22 Thinapp very slow

Hello Thinapp community,

I'm trying to create a Thinapp package for IBM SPSS 22. The package works but is very slow. Starting the program takes about 3 minutes and working in SPSS is very slow, especially with large files.

We use VMWare View desktops with Windows 7, 32 bit, linked clones, non persistent.

When I install SPSS directly on a View desktop it works fine, so the problem seems to be in the Thinapp package.

Anyone has any experience with this? Or maybe an idea what the problem may be?

With other Thinapp packages we don't experience this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all

Today I tried to package office 2016 (with KMS). But somehow the licensing made some problems.

I tried the guides of 2013 (Guide) and 2010 (Guide) but either didn't help.

Was anyone able to do this successfully (with KMS)?

Accessing \javasoft\prefs using Java inside the "bubble"

$

Thinapp 5.2.2 , Windows 7

Hi,

we've an mysterious problem with java inside  the bubble. The  application uses HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs in the registry to store it settings.

The problem: If we put the settings inside HKEY_CURRENT_USER.txt , then we had problems accessing it inside  java. Java may fail to write these values or report 0x80000001 .

If we remove all values (not the keys) and put it into an windows .reg file and import it using regedit /s  file.reg inside the bubble, the java app launches without trouble.

The app may also works fine, if  the  registry keys and values are defined outside in the "normal"  Registry and the registry isolation mode is writecopy.

We still seeing errors like

Aug 15, 2017 5:46:49 PM java.util.prefs.WindowsPreferences <init>WARNUNG: Could not create windows registry node Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\my app at root 0x80000001. Windows RegCreateKeyEx(...) returned error code 5

But the java app seems to work so far.

Outside Thinapp, we don't see such registry errors. The user have the same rights.
