Thinapp applications crash after installing Windows 10 Creators Update

$

Hi,

we are running different virtual applications with thinapp on windows 10.
After upgrading to windows 10 creator update these applications crash.

Every time the event viewer shows an error 1000, Application crash, Faulting Module c:\windows\system32\oleaut32.dll.

We tried with thinapp 5.2 and 5.2.2.

Is this a known issue with the creator update ?

Kind Regards,

Verheijden Thierry.

ThinApp 5.2.2 Win10 slow Application startup

Hi,

I've tried the new 5.2.2 version that should resolve this trouble but the start up delay seems to be the same as with 5.2.1.

I captured the application both in Win7 and Win10 with same results. So is there any "tricks" to enable a "quick" start up on Win10 with 5.2.2?

64 Bit OS/Apps don't support VBS?

$

We have recently moved to 64 bit base OS for Horizon.

When building any thinapp on this new base OS, it will not work if I include a VBS file (for doing the FirstParentStart functions etc):

  • Packaged Thinapp works fine without a VBS file.
  • VBS file works fine on it's own.
  • Even if I comment out everything or have a blank VBS file, the ThinApp package doesn't work.

It does attempt to run, but fails:

  • ThinApp popup appears with license details
  • the process spawns (seen in Task Manager), but then exits.
  • Packaged App doesn't run
  • no errors are shown.

Found similar issue (VB script crash thinapp ) but the solution doesn't apply to me as that DLL is not present in the package.

Any ideas?

ThinApp / Windows 10 - Creator Update

Hi,

we deploy a ThinApp with Word 2003. When a user is forced to update to "Creator Update" the ThinApp does not work anymore.

I think there would be the need of a fix from VMware, ist there something in the near timeline?

Internet Explorer 8 - automatic proxy settings

Was able to successfully capture and create a thinapp'ed Internet Explorer 8 (using WinXP SP2).  The one quirk I noticed is that IE refuses to work properly if the "use automatic configuration script' or "automatically detect settings" if selected from within the LAN settings in the IE control panel.  If I set the proxy server manually then it'll connect fine to sites outside the corporate intranet.  This is using 4.0.2-3089.

Thanks

Running Thinapp Office 2007 in Win764bit with Office 2010 installed

Hello, we have a use case where a few Excel documents can only run in Office 2007.  Therefore, I decided to thinapp Office 2007 or just Excel 2007.  All our VDI boxes are already having Office 2010 installed natively.

Office 2007 thinapp well, but now we have another issue.

Whenever user opens any excel documents, it opens up Excel 2007 instead of Excel 2010.  User wants to have Excel 2010 open whenever he opens up the any excel document.  However, user is aware that he will have to run Excel 2007 first whenever he wants to open up those few special Excel documents.

But, once Excel 2007 is streamed to his VDI box, opening any excel documents ends up calling Excel 2007 instead of Excel 2010.

Is there a solution to this problem?  I assume it will be some sort of registry change, but don't know where.

Thanks!

ThinApp 16-Bit Win App - Calls *.PIF

Hi All,

I'm tyring to virtualize an older 16-bit Windows application - portions of the application attempt to run *.PIF files - these PIF really only execute a *.bat file that then in turn runs an executable and exits.  The platform being tested on is Windows XP Pro and; the original application works fine but the ThinApped verision has some problems.  When the ThinApped application tries to execute the PIF it failes.  Attempting to execute the *.pif from the ThinApp cmd.exe entry point results in the "is not a valid Win32 application".  The PIF and BAT files are not selected as entry points, should they be?  From the ThinApped cmd.exe entry point, I can run both the BAT file, and the EXE file that is called by that BAT without problem.  It appears there is a problem with the way the virtualized environment is interpretting the PIF.

ThinApp - Windows 7 (x64) / Internet Explorer 9 / Java 1.71

Help!  Has anyone successfully packaged these together.  I have tried several different ways and every time I package it together either the browser won't work at all it just hangs, or I get lots of prompts about my java being out of date.  How do I package them together where it will run the webpage I need without any prompts or error messages.

Things I have tried.

1.  Install IE 9 - Run a prescan install java and then run post scan

2.  Run a prescan - Install IE9 and java - and then post scan

3.  Install IE 9 and java then click the Internet Explorer option and then post scan.

Any which way I try it, it won't open on any box or opens and prompts.  Please help.

Thank you.

Thinapp clickonce app

Hi

I'm working with a click once app that requires you to logon to a webpage first and then have the link on the webpage launch the app. This means I can't open the clickonce app directly, because there is session token that is passed from the website to the click once app. In a last attempt to get this to work with Horizon View application pools I'm trying to put it in a thinapp. The problem is I've captured internet explorer 10 and that works as expected, and I've tried to capture the dot net framework 4.5 as well. When  I launch the click once app , I get a message that "ClickOnce has stopped working" and the event is CLR20r3 and it references dfsvc.exe, System.Drawing, and System.ArgumentException. Has anyone seen something similar?

If I set ChildProcessEnvironmentDefault=External  I don't get that error, but that's because its using the local dot net framework.

I have a problem with virtualized applications with ThinApp 5.2.1 and Windows 10. In other operating systems work perfectly, but in Windows 10 gives me the following error: " ThinApp has encountered an unexpected error. Click Abort to close the application, Retry to debug, or Continue to ignore the error. Support info PID=3564, create_process.cpp@1949.

They are compatible with the virtualized ThinApp Applications in Windows 10 ?

Thanks for the help

.bat file changed to an .exe file that opens a file linked to the main program doesn't open after packaged

$

Okay, here's what happens.

I have an add on package that I wanted to package up with a main program.  The problem is the add-on doesn't have a .exe file so I had to make a .bat file to open it which, unfortunately, is not recognized as a user entry point.   So I converted the .bat file into an .exe file so that I could create a user entry point to that file.

This is a similar situation to opening a word document and it automatically opens Microsoft word.  Only in my case I would create a batch file to that word document then convert it to an .exe file so I could create a user entry point for that document.

So in my case after it's all packaged up and I run the user entry point I get an error, could not open file.  Is this what I would call a linked file?  I'm packaging it up under isolation write/copy mode and not in merged mode.

Any ideas?

Queue Length counter on guest Windows 2012 R2

Hi.

I have noticed that Server Work Queue\Queue Length counter value is always 0 (zero).

Whatever I do, it doesn't reacts.

Does this performance counter works correctly in guest OS? Or should I enable it in some special way?

I use ESXi host ver. 5.1.0, guest OS - Windows Server 2012 R2.

Thinreg, Reader, batch file

Another question about Thinreg and Adobe Reader.  The way I understand it, you would need to go to each workstation and run Thinreg to reg PDFs with Thinapp'ed Reader.  That, of course, is out of the question with a 500+ userbase.  So as a workaround I created a batch file that runs Thinreg then starts Reader.  Seems to work fine.  However, now I have two files.  Is there a way to incorporate the batch file into the package without using an MSI?  I want to make it as transparent as possible to the user.
