The capture was taken on a 32bit XP machine. Synapse is working fine for XP 32 bit OS. But for W7 32 bit it will not work. I get the information bubble indicating that it is reaching the vm thinapp capture then nothing happens. I attched the bubble or notification screen.

Thanks!

Interesting issue with Thinapp'd Excel Add-In and native Excel 2010

$

I have captured SAPGUI 7.20 with Business Explorer 7 successfully but am have one issue that I hope someone here may be able to assist with.

I am using 2 seperate entry points, one for SAP logon pad and one for Business Explorer. SAP logon pad is working fine haven't had any problems but clicking on Business Explorer entry point calls native Excel 2010 as it's suppose to but once a worksheet is open clicking on the "File" tab in Excel an error message screen displays. It's a thinapp error and reads:

Unable to load DLL C:\Program Files\Microsoft Lync\communicator.exe->Uc.dll
The specified module could not be found.

This same error window pops up a total of six times and once cleared with an OK or cancel I can continue working within Excel 2010 fine.

So it's not a show stopper but I'm getting some flack about the annoyance factor of it.

I captured this thinapp project on a clean Windows XP SP3 with Office 2010 virtual machine and getting this error on a Windows 7 SP1 end-user workstation. The end-user workstation does have Microsoft Lync installed on it while the capture machine did not. The head scratcher for me is...

Why the heck is anything in the Excel/Thinapp looking for communicator in the first place?

I tried to go back and recapture with that specific dll (Uc.dll) by adding it to a "Microsoft" folder under %ProgramFilesDir% but now the entry point doesn't call native Excel so that's a no go.

I'm thinking it would be better just to have the thinapp completely ignore the exsistance of native Microsoft communicator but not sure how to accomplish that.

Any insight or help is greatly apprecaited.

Thanks,

Brian

ThinApp - Paint.NET problem.

Hello,

We have tried packaging Paint.NET but it did not work. We used a clean virtual machine while doing that but the resulting .exe file does not even work on the virtual machine although Paint.NET works on it.

.NET is packaged together with Paint.NET. The error is:

"Missing Import C:\Prpgram Files\paint.net\SxS\X86\ucrtbase.dll -> kernelbase.dll:CreateProcessA"

We have also tried copying .dll files in different directories but it is still not working.

Thanks in advance.

Note: Same problem with TortoiseSVN.

Thinapp Firefox ESR Issue - The address isn't valid error

Hello Guys,

I have recently struggling with Firefox ESR thinapp, actually it already happened in previous version 38.8.0 ESR, but I was able to fix that issue by this guide :

1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste pref and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.preferences.inContent preference to switch it from true to false

But since FF is changing the policy as stated in this from them :

Firefox 38 switched from a pop-up Options dialog to an "in tab" options page. Some users are finding that it doesn't work for them, but so far we haven't identified the reason - and this - Note: I don't know whether that will be in Firefox forever or is a transitional feature. As you've probably noticed, the long-term trend is to remove things that pop up.

It looks it already came and I am not able to fix that (should be since version 42) for the last 45.2.0 ESR version in thinapp. When I install the FF, all works, but when I get the packaged FF by thinapp, then it does not work. All like about:home, about:preferences, about:newtab etc. command does not work, even some https links.

I have tried to thinapp it by also older version, but no success. Currently we use last 5.2.1 .

Would you know what can be wrong there with FF? Anyone of you have the same?

Thanks in advance for any advice. Pakcage.ini attached

Native Excel unable to access ThinApp files

$

We have recently had to ThinApp an updated version of a program for one of our clients. The previous capture was done by another company and we do not have access to the build files, so we are starting anew.

The ThinApp was done on a clean workstation and Office 2010 is installed natively on the server. (This is how it ran with the earlier version as well)

The application runs fine with the exception of some of the reports which require an excel template. When the report is run, theyfail stating it could not see the report file ie. C:\appname\Reports\rptfiles\History.rpt

These rpt files are part of the application and are contained within the ThinApp.

When I run process explorer I can see Excel being launched and it coming back with a PATH NOT FOUND to the same rpt file name

Excel would not launch at all from the program until I added

VirtualizeExternalOutOfProcessCOM=0

I currently have the following added as well for testing, however they have no impact.

ChildProcessEnvironmentExceptions=EXCEL.EXE

ChildProcessEnvironmentDefault=Virtual

I have tried setting all the ##Attributes in the folder paths to the report files to merged, however it has had no effect.

I'm assuming since the excel is running outside the virtual file space it does not have visibility to access the report file within the thinapp.

Does anyone know how I can have Excel launch externally yet still have access to the virtual file space?

SAP GUI 7.10

Got a bit of a problem packaging SAP GUI 7.10 (and patch level 7)  with ThinApp - can't open .SAP files directly.

We have entry points being SAPlgpad.exe (the SAP Login Pad - we've also done all of this with SAPLogon.exe instead as well), SAPgui.exe and the primary data store being a large .dat file, merged intsallation type, on Windows XP SP3, everything patched and up to date.

We can start SAP and run it correctly - so we startup via the SAPlgpad.exe and everything runs fine - can connect to the server, input information and do everything we need to do.   If we click and DRAG the .SAP file into an already logged in instance of SAP then it executes correctly.What I believe might be happening is that when we run (double click or execute) a .SAP file, it loads up SAPgui.exe (like it's supposed to), then realises that the user needs to be logged in, so calls SAPLgpad.exe to login the user before executing the .SAP file.  However, ThinApp seems to be passing the .SAP file directly to SAPlgpad.exe instead of passing a request to login the user.  SAPlgpad.exe then doesn't know how to execute a .SAP file and so quits with an error.

I've logged a support call with VMWare about it, but I was wondering if anybody else had packaged SAP GUI 7.1 before and had anything similar to this problem, or whether it was just an issue with our setup?

can you upgrade an old thinapp to thinapp 4.0.4

I have some apps I did on an older version of thin app..

so they dont work on windows 7. I no longer have the package to just re compile, So Id have to repackage again.

There was mention at vmworld this year of having a tool to upgrade the older thin apps to the new version of thinapp that would

be windows 7 compatible.

Any one know of this tool or how I can take an older thinapp package and upgrade it to 4.0.4.xx and hopefully get it working on win 7 without having to repackage the app!

cheers

Help with capturing FRAPS screencap app with Thinapp?

$

I am experiencing trouble capturing a screen capture program called FRAPS in Windows VISTA. The program allows capture of screenshots and videos of DirectX or OpenGL applications (e.g., games).

I went through the capture process in a clean Virtual Machine of Vista. There was no error in the capture progress. The Thinapp .exe that is generated launched fine, but when I press the hotkey (as part of the capture program function), no screencap was saved.

Is there a problem with ThinApp dealing with client apps that directly relies on DirectX?

Windows cannot find javaw.exe when launching thinapp

Thanks for taking the time to help out a ThinApp first timer!

I am trying to ThinApp a program called Infranet Portal 6.5 because of its java dependencies.

After I build the ThinApp, copy the .exe to my desktop and try to run the application I receive the following error:

Windows cannot find 'C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\PORTAL~1\JRE\BIN\javaw.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

It seems that during the software installation the main program files go in the folder: C:\Program Files\Portal Software\CustomerCenter\ and the java files go in the folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Portal Software\JRE\bin

How do I direct the application to look at the javaw.exe without installing it locally on my workstation?

Here are the settings I have used during the ThinApp and I have attached a copy of the package.ini file that I have not made any changes to:

Using ThinApp 4.6

Entry Point chosen: "Customer Center.exe"

Groups Authorized: "Everyone"

Isolation: have tried both "Full write access" and "Restricted write access"

Sandbox: have tried both "user profile" and "same directory as the application"

Inventory name: "Customer Center 6.5"

Project Locations: "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware ThinApp\Captures\Customer Center 6.5"

Package Settings:

* Use one of the entry points: "Customer Center.exe"

* NO separate .DAT

* NO msi generation

* NO compression

Thanks to anyone that can assist me here!

Visio 2007 ThinApp Package fail on Office 2010 install machine

$

Hello,

I packaged MSOffice Visio Standard 2007 application on Windows XP SP3 OS using ThinApp 4.7.2. I used below reference

http://pubs.vmware.com/thinapp4/help/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm (Also tried without .net)

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1022287

I enbled MSI for this package and deployed to Windows 7 Enterprise OS (User Desktop) where Office 2010 installed but it failed to launch. Package configuration details as below

  •      Visio install to VisioStd.2K7 folder instead of C:\Programs Files\Microsoft Office\
  •      Visio License Type = MAK
  •      While packaging network disabled
  •      Used Office Customization Tool and create a MSP for silent install
  •      Visio is full install
  •      After package deleted $PatchCache$ from C:\Windows\Installer\
  •      If I delete MSOCache Folder then it failed to launch. Enclosed the attachment for this (Microsoft Office Visio Std 2007.zip)
  •      I followed the steps in the above KB

Don't know what I am missing...

I attached the error message here and the package.ini (package.txt) file. This is our critical application.

Could someone please let me know the best practice to package this successfully.

Thanks,

Ram

Lync Basic 2013

$

Hello, i'm trying to package this application that you can download for free from Microsoft. I'm following this document:

https://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-17823

The only additional steps is that i'm deleting  the MSOCache folder in order to reduce the size of the package and I'm using thinreg /a to register the application. On the machines that i don't have office 2010 natively installed Lync is working 100%

Unfortunately i have some machines with Office 2010 and APP-v deployment tool for 2010 already installed and on these machines sometimes the applications is trying to repair, and because MSOcache is missing is failing.

What i can see when i run "ospp.vbs /dstatus", the office activation is having some error code and the way to fix it is to use ospp.vbs /act. It looks like for some reason ThinApp is "touching" the Office Software Protection service and in Windows logs there is an error "The system was tampered". What i can see in my project, the folder with all ospp files is with FULL isolation?

! Is there anyone who tried to capture Lync Basic 2013? Any help will be really much appreciated!!!!

I forgot to add...i'm using ThinApp 5 and all machines are with Win7 Pro

ThinApp failed to open, find, or create Sandbox directory.

I have made a thinapp for MS Office 2007 Pulisher.  It is deployed to a test linked clone pool.  The users profiles are on a separate D: drive.  The Thinapp gets deployed properly, but when the user starts the app I get the following:

ThinApp failed to open, find, or create Sandbox directory.

Registry probe failed for c:\users\testuser\appdata\roaming\microsoft office Publisher

It seems it's assuming the user profiles are in c: and not d:

how can I change this in package.ini?

thanks all.

Visio and Project 2013 Error

$

Hi All

Wonder if anyone has seen the below issue with Project and Visio 2013 thinapps

Ive thinapped Visio and Project 2013 using the guides in other discussions which other people have got to work.

My setup up includes a KMS server which is setup to manage licences which has the 2013 licences installed.

Office 2013(Excel, Outlook, Word and powerpoint) is on my image with no problem with licencing. I have tried capturing on a clean machine with office 2010 on and one with no office products installed.

Visio and Project thinapp as expected but have an issue which appears randomly when they run

Both have the same error they can run  fully with no issues and the users can use them as expected. However randomly they try to start and run a wizard which errors with Microsoft Project(visio) Professional 2013 configuration did not compete successfully.

I close the message and get another message Microsoft Office can't find your licence for this application. A repair attempt was unsuccessful or cancelled. The below events are in the application log of the VDI desktop.

Anyone else had this problem and resolved ?

Hello,

I have thinapped visio 2010 following the sequence guidelines on this site

http://blogs.vmware.com/thinapp/2013/02/thinapp-microsoft-visio-and-project-2010-while-locally-installed-microsoft-office-2010.html

Visio does not activate, when i run 'cscript.exe ospp.vbs /act' within the thinapp cmd. i recieve the message:

'No installed product keys detected'

When I run the installer with the same config.xml and then run the above command the KMS server succesfully activates my Visio product.

Someone got an idea?

thanks.

Is there ANY way to use ThinApps with an .exe? I've been reading and noticed that the only thing it shows is .msi files.

Is it possible?

TeamViewer 10

$

Hi All,

We have had a request to virtualise Team Viewer, version 10 for some of our users.

It all seemed to go smoothly until we noticed that if a user exits the application by hitting the X, it prevents them from reopening the application until they either perform a full log off/on or end 2 processes in task manager.

If they exit using the menus in Team Viewer, it seems to end the processes too.

After some further investigation, it appears that there is a service created when the application is installed which was included in the thinapp but commented out. I have done a rebuild and removed the ; to include this which now creates the service on the users VM. However, it never starts, despite being set to automatic. I tried to manually start and it states it cannot find the file specified, no mention of what file though.

Has anyone else managed this application?

Thanks

Danny
