Is there ANY way to use ThinApps with an .exe? I've been reading and noticed that the only thing it shows is .msi files.
Is it possible?

Hi All,
We have had a request to virtualise Team Viewer, version 10 for some of our users.
It all seemed to go smoothly until we noticed that if a user exits the application by hitting the X, it prevents them from reopening the application until they either perform a full log off/on or end 2 processes in task manager.
If they exit using the menus in Team Viewer, it seems to end the processes too.
After some further investigation, it appears that there is a service created when the application is installed which was included in the thinapp but commented out. I have done a rebuild and removed the ; to include this which now creates the service on the users VM. However, it never starts, despite being set to automatic. I tried to manually start and it states it cannot find the file specified, no mention of what file though.
Has anyone else managed this application?
Thanks
Danny

I've read the following:
VMware ThinApp Licensing information (1006248) | VMware KB
and I want to be sure I understand the licensing model. The "Per End Point" option means each application that is virtualized will count towards your license cap, correct? If I virtualize an application with the application virtualization packager, then distribute those applications to a number of endpoints, it's those applications that count towards the license cap (as opposed to the virtualization packager instance)?
If that is the case, how are the licenses enforced on endpoints that are not connected to the internet? When a virtualized application (a thinned application) is executed, does it check a license server? What happens if it can't reach said server (as in, not connected to the internet, etc.)?
I apologize if I've confused the concepts. Thanks in advance for the help.
Hello,
Does anyone know how to permanently delete old sandboxes in the \user\appdata\roaming\thinstall directory? If I delete them wait for some time for Persona to record changes,restart a new floating desktop, all of the sandboxes I deleted are back. These are to Thinapps that are no longer being served by View, and therefore the package was a test and has long been deleted itself. I now find my roaming profile filled with obsolete sandboxes, and one sandbox that causes my current Thinapp to fail so I need to get that one deleted as well. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Does anyone know if it is possible to disable the pop-up that appears in the bottom right corner of the screen when starting a ThinApp application? I've been searching through the documentation and the internet and I haven't seen anything on this.
Hello everyone,
I've been evaluating the VMWare ThinApp trial and reviewing the documentation but I still need assistance with the following:
1. Could someone help me on how to make file associations? For example, if I made a virtualized application of Adobe Photoshop CS3, how do I get Adobe Photoshop CS3 to launch if I click on a .psd file? Moreover, I would like to have this "built in" and not have to manually assign it after the application has been built.
2. Active registry settings... Currently I have an application that assigns current user registry settings via Active Registry Setup every time a DIFFERENT user logs in to a workstation. The name of the application is called Endnote in which a toolbar is installed in Microsoft Word 2007 for each user that logs in. I already have the registry keys created for this if i were to physically install the application to Program Files... However is there a way to make this work for a virtualized version of Endnote?
Many thanks,
Al
Hello everybody,
end-users are trying to create a hyperlink in their thin-apped Excel (also Word) 2000. If you create a hyperlink to a xls file (within Excel) then it fails to open. When you create a hyperlink from Excel to for example word then it opens fine.
Exactly the same problem in Word. When you create a hyperlink within Word to another Word document, it does nothing. When we create a link to an excel doc, it works fine.
Can someone simulate this problem ? Or even better... Give a solution for this problem ?
Thanks in advance,
Bjorn
I wanted to ask out there if anybody else experienced issues with the Windows Help Application when launching a help file from within a thinapped application. My problem is when using an application called Pinnacle (which uses the Omnis runtime) I click the help file and if you watch process monitor you see that it attempts to run "C:\Windows\System32\Winhlp32.exe axis.hlp" which is the command to use the Windows Help application to launch its help file. The help file never opens no matter how many times I try. I attempted to try and place the Winhlp32.exe which there is one in C:\windows and C:\windows\system32 in the virtual %SystemSystem% and %SystemRoot% so that when launching winhlp it would use the virtual version instead of the native but instead I now get a "Unable to open main container" error when lanching the help file.
So if anybody else had bad experiences or best practices with dealing with hlp files let me know, I"m thinking this issue could come up in all different kinds of applications.

When I create a ThinApp, I create an msi, and sometimes ThinApp creates the .dat file instead of the .exe. I am a little confused as to which to put into my login script that runs ThinReg. Do I put \\server\path\xxx.dat or \\server\path\xxx.msi ? Or does it matter? Thank you.
I was wondering if anyone has run into this problem. After ThinApp'ing the Cisco Historical Reporting Client application on a vanilla Windows XP virtual machine, I can't get it start on any other systems. It always gives the error:
The key part definitely seems to be related to a "Run As" service. I'm just not sure what this is or where it's at or if it's something that can be virtualized with the app...
I'm running VMware 4.7.3-891762...
Thanks!
Daniel
I created a thinapp of Java 7 Update 45, following the instructions from the ThinApp Blog, and the msi installs fine. I can see it in Programs and Features in Control Panel, and the About Java start menu item appears and opens showing me that it is Java 7 Update 45. Unfortunately, my browsers are not aware that it is installed, the installation is not recognized by "verify your java installation" on the java webpage nor on javatester.org. Can someone point me in the right direction to get this to work? I'm not sure what to check or change. Thank you.
We are using a native install Office 2010 on our desktops. We have a program that integrates with Office via VSTO. When we run Outlook the add-in shows as Inactive in Outlook. When we try to enable it we get the following error. I have included the vsto file in the thinapp build so you see the vsto file. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this working? I would rather not have to do a native install since our Office Suite has a dozen different add-ins.

If we activate Excel Thinapp from a Native App, it will not be able to find Excel's DLL or Binary then it will show error "cannot find Excel" However, if we use Native Excel, we will not have this problem.
I've used ThinApp for portable VST plug-ins development. Using .exe as entry point everything works fine. But .dll files of VST plug-ins saves almost all data in registry and don't use the sandbox. How to make .dll file of VST plug-in portable? Is it possible to create an entry point of the .dll file?
Dear all,
we are searching the correct way to ThinApp Mozilla FireFox version 45, we've tried everything that we found in internet, any user guide ..but it was useless.. no one of this works well.
Each time we want to start Adobe Flash Player version test, on this link https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html, we get this error;
************************************
Unable to load DLL
C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\FlashPlayerPugin_21_0_0_213.exe -> COMDLG32.dll
Access Denied.
************************************
We also tried to ThinApp Adobe Flash Player separately and link it to the project through package.ini with command "OptionalAppLinks=plugins\*.exe" but for Firefox doesn't work, it works very well for Internet Explorer.
As last test we've tried to install directly on base image on local machine but we get the same error message.
There are some suggestions ?

I have tried the number solutions suggested on different forum for application crash issue with GIMP like delete the user profile C:\Users\username\.gimp2.8 etc… but none of It working for Virtualize package.
I would like to know, whether GIMP 2.8.18 support to Virtualize application ThinApp or not ?
Any suggestions or input will be helpful.
Hi all,

I is use:
VirtualizeExternalOutOfProcessCOM=0
ChildProcessEnvironmentExceptions=Winword.EXE

winword starts and no thinapp crash, but no i don't have the word plugin becourse winword start out side the thin environment.

I have tried several time to Thinapp Google Chrome (version 15.0.874.121 m) but keep running into problems. I will run the prescan, then install flash player and java, then install chrome and make the changes i need to for the broweser, then run the postscan. i choose the top google chrome.exe as my main entry point and unselect everything else, then build my package. I build it with a .DAT and a .MSI package. i then copy the packages out to our file server and then try to run them from a view desktop and i get the following error "Google Chrome.exe - Fatal Application Exit Unable to open. I press OK to the message and it dissapears. i have tried to build the package with multiple entry pointes to see if it works with no luck. I have even tried to package it using the .EXE instead of .DAT. Can someone please walk me through the steps needed to get chrome thinapped? The simpler the steps the better i will be able to understand.
Thanks
