Virtualization of Internet Explorer 10 is not successful

$

Hello,

i´ve tried to virtualize the Internet Explorer 10, but after the successful packaging, the exe-File does not start. It opens only the small usual notify window from ThinApp.
My packaging-environment consists of a blank Win7 32 bit VM.
ThinApp is installed in Version 4.7.3

Does anyone know what settings I have to make?

Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium ThinApp questions

$

This is my first experience with ThinApp and have questions to the experts here.

I finished the build process without any errors but I don't feel like it's completed successfully.

Here's why?

1. I used all the default setting and keep hitting next until about the last step when it asked you to build .msi and compressed the build. I checked those two boxes based on the youtube tutorial that I watched. But, when I open the "bin" folder, I do not see the .msi file.

Is that normal?

2. The Creative Suite Design Premium came with 14 applications such as Adobe BRIDGE, Device Central, DREAMWEAVER, ExtendScript Toolkit, Extension Manager, FIREWORKS, Flash Catalyst, Flash Professional, ILLUSTRATOR, INDESIGN, Media Encoder, PHOTOSHOP, Photoshop (64-bit), Pixel Binder Toolkit.

I picked those .exe files prior to the build process but when the build is done, I only see six application (Capitalized above).

Is that what it supposed to be? Not all application can be built as a ThinApp?

3. Maybe I need to rebuild it again. If I need to do that do I need to start from scratch again or I can just rebuild from the current capture files that I already have?

4. I was using Windows 7 Enterprise Edition 64-bit VM base image as my ThinApp 4.7.3 builder. Do I need to do all ThinApp building process on Windows XP instead? I'm not sure if 64-bit has anything to do with it or not. All of my VMware View desktop is using the same OS so I'm guessing I better use the same one?

Appreciate the feedback in advance.

Opening a support ticket would be my next step if I can't get help here.

ThinApp failed to open, find, or create Sandbox directory.

I have made a thinapp for MS Office 2007 Pulisher.  It is deployed to a test linked clone pool.  The users profiles are on a separate D: drive.  The Thinapp gets deployed properly, but when the user starts the app I get the following:

ThinApp failed to open, find, or create Sandbox directory.

Registry probe failed for c:\users\testuser\appdata\roaming\microsoft office Publisher

It seems it's assuming the user profiles are in c: and not d:

how can I change this in package.ini?

thanks all.

ChildProcessEnvironmentExceptions with wildcards

Hello does anyone know if it is possible to enter a value for ChildProcessEnvironmentExceptions with a wildcards, or a tip for flash.

We want to run the local installed flash outside the virtual environment. But the flas executable name is FlashUtil32_11_3_300_257_ActiveX.exe.

When we install a new version/update of flash we need to build our iexplore thinapp everytime.

Thank you.

How to change the sandbox %AppData% folder structure and name?

I need to change the sandbox %AppData% folder name, but when I launch the application, it creates a new folder named %AppData%. Is there any package.ini parameter that allows to rename the sandbox %AppData% folder?

Office 2013 ThinAPP - No Internet Connection

$

I appreciate there is already a discussion for Office 2013 but wanted to start a new thread as this is a different query.

I've followed the standard KB for Office 2013 with ThinAPP 5.1 which has worked fine. Office activates sucessfuly against our KMS server and performance is fine. However, none of the office applocations claim to have access to the internet, and under the 'account' option it shows 'No Internet Connection'. I can see this biting us when we roll out a pilot deployment and users try to access web based clipart and other online features.

Has anyone else come across this, or have a fix? I've created the package a few times and in different packaging VMs but get the same result.

Many Thanks

Pete

ThinApp legacy ERP client crashes under Windows 7 64 bit

I am packaging a legacy client for our legacy ERP system using ThinApp 5.1.0 in a clean Windows XP SP3 virtual machine running on top of a Windows 7 64 bit host.

  • I have packaged a single .EXE entry point.
  • Added RegistryIsolationMode=Merged to the Package.ini file

The ThinApp runs and for the most part works in the host OS Windows 7 64 bit.  There is a point when generating a report where the ThinApp client creates a .PDF file to a folder on a server, then the ThinApp crashes.

If I run the client standalone in the Windows XP virtual machine, it works.

If I run the ThinApp client in the Windows XP virtual machine, it works.

If I run the ThinApp client in the host OS Windows 7 64bit, it crashes (only when generating the .PDF).

I was thinking this may be related to a TEMP folder issue but I'm not sure.

Thoughts?

How to package MS Project 2010 on Windows 8.1 Update 1(64-bit) with native Office 2013 suite on virtual desktop image

Hi,

We have the following infrastructure:

VMware View 5.3 with non-persitent floating assignment pool

Windows 8.1 Update 1 image

Microsoft Office 2013 32-bit is installed locally on desktop image

Thinapp 5.1

We want to package Microsoft Project 32-bit on our platform with Thinapp.

I have tried all the tricks in the book when trying to package Project 2010 in our VMware enviroment. I have switched to 2010 version because Thinapp does not support Office 2013 on Windows 8.1 Update 1. But I start to suspect that our configuration is not supported by the fact that we have Office 2013 locally installed on our image..Good if someone can confirm that!

MS Project start, but hangs and is not "Not licensed" in Window toolbar. After trying to close the application we get a error message from: Microsoft Office Office 64-components saying that its can not find a MSI file. the name is 23a3267e.msi , but this filname is randomized and I cannot find anything when googling the filename.

I have followed these guides:

https://communities.vmware.com/thread/471565

http://www.egroup-us.com/2011/02/howto-thinapp-microsoft-office-2010-known-issues-and-resolutions/

I have even tried this custom thinapp tool: VMware KB: Resolving licensing errors when deploying virtual Office to a system with Office installed natively.

Have someone managed to package Visio or Project on a similar enviroment before?

And can someone confirm that a Thinapped 2010 Office applications will work on a image with Office 2013?

ThinApp and database

Hello,

I tried to virtualize an old 32bit application that no longer turns on windows 8.1 64bit. Everything worked perfectly.

I have this problem.Since the application uses a DB (SQLBase) local, the changes made in the DB are provided only on the PC where the program runs through virtualized ThinApp.

If I copy the virtual application on another PC I find the situation of the DB to the state it was when I initially virtualized application

Thank you all

Updating a cpatured program - loading master machine to just before final snapshot

Hi, I was wondering if there is a way to load your 'clean machine' back to the point of a capture just before you end the capture and built your thin app. This would save me a lot of time on updating one of my packages that has lots of parameters that need changing. i.e. I would like to:-

  1. start initial capture on vanilla machine image
  2. Install original software and make all changes
  3. end capture and build app.exe

Then 6 months later when an update to the app comes along,

  1. Power on Vanilla Image PC
  2. start capture process
  3. somehow load machine to same position as it was just before step 3 above by using previous captured data and without re-installing the software again
  4. install updates and make any new changes
  5. end capture and build a new updated app.exe

I have seen how to do side by side updates and sbmerge etc, but they seem to imply you have to start the image capture from scratch and not start building the image from where you left off on the original build.

Thanks in advance.

dll comctl32 error when packaging think-cell

$

I try to package think-cell (www.think-cell.com) but the 'show datasheet option' does not work.

think-cell is an add-in for Powerpoint to easily create charts.

It has to call Excel to show a modal form. The following error occurs.

thinkcell error.PNG

Toegang geweigerd is Dutch for Access denied.

When I open Excel (also has the plugin) and insert an chart into Powerpoint from Excel it works well and also gets back to Excel when click 'open datasheet'.

I tried to include the DLL in the package, calling the dll in the package.ini, first opening Excel and numerous other stuff (tried everything on Google) but nothing seems to be working..

Please help me on this one...

First of all apologies if the question is being repeated. I have captured Java 1.8 using ThinApp 5.1, but have now ran into troubles.

1. Icon doesnt appear for the virtualised Java in the Virtual control Panel applet

2. When testing the java version using the IE entry point created during capturing phases, IE fails to detect the correct version

Can somebody please suggest a solution.

Native Excel unable to access ThinApp files

We have recently had to ThinApp an updated version of a program for one of our clients. The previous capture was done by another company and we do not have access to the build files, so we are starting anew.

The ThinApp was done on a clean workstation and Office 2010 is installed natively on the server. (This is how it ran with the earlier version as well)

The application runs fine with the exception of some of the reports which require an excel template. When the report is run, theyfail stating it could not see the report file ie. C:\appname\Reports\rptfiles\History.rpt

These rpt files are part of the application and are contained within the ThinApp.

When I run process explorer I can see Excel being launched and it coming back with a PATH NOT FOUND to the same rpt file name

Excel would not launch at all from the program until I added

VirtualizeExternalOutOfProcessCOM=0

I currently have the following added as well for testing, however they have no impact.

ChildProcessEnvironmentExceptions=EXCEL.EXE

ChildProcessEnvironmentDefault=Virtual

I have tried setting all the ##Attributes in the folder paths to the report files to merged, however it has had no effect.

I'm assuming since the excel is running outside the virtual file space it does not have visibility to access the report file within the thinapp.

Does anyone know how I can have Excel launch externally yet still have access to the virtual file space?

ThinApp .Net ClickOnce Application

hi there

our customer is using an application, wich uses the .Net Feature "ClickOnce" this is an automated installation and updating procedure from .net.

If a user start a such application the first time, it will download programm data to the local part of the users profile appdata.

In an classic environment, the user has to download these data once per workstation.

but when using floating desktops, the installation happens everytime when the user gets a new desktop.

redirecting the local part of appdata is not, what we want to do.

has anyone expirence how to generate an thinapp from such a application? the entry point to start the app is an webserver url.

Google Chrome resets itsself

Hello,

today I have thinapped the newest Google Chrome.

I had added Java to the Browser/VM.

And I had added an extension: Scriptsafe.

The sandboxpath is the executable path (portable).

I had set only 2 options to the package: erase sandbox on start and on exit.

I had build the package on Windows 7 64Bit.

When I execute the thinapped Chrome there was a surprise: Chrome resets several settings and and removes extensions because it detects some unusual changes.

German message which appears in the settings:

Chrome hat festgestellt, dass einige Ihrer Einstellungen von einem anderen Programm manipuliert wurden, und hat sie auf die ursprünglichen Standardwerte zurückgesetzt:

Chrome reset your browser settings - Chrome Help

In english:

Chromehas detectedthat some of yoursettings have beenmanipulatedby another program, and took it backto the original defaultvalues.

So my Thinapp Package is not useable anymore with my intended settings and extensions...

I want to ask if someone has a workaround?

TIA

Where is the location of the last prescan snapshot in a portable ThinApp?

In the ordinary ThinApp, the details of the last prescan are stored in C:\Program Files\VmWare\ThinApp

I actually made the ThinApp itself portable, so in that case, where are the details of the last prescan stored?

Slow Open Dialog folder listing

Hi.

I have an issue with Open dialog and folder with a large number of subfolders in thinapped application.

Folder has over 12000 subfolders.

Default (not thinapped) application list subfolders in Open Dialog almost instantly.

But thinapped enumerates all subfolders more than 30 seconds (depends on view and filter).

I have replicate this issue on Windows Server 2012 (R2) and Windows 8 (8.1) using Thinapp ver 5.x.x

with applications that use standard Open Dialog (Adobe Acrobat).

Apps that use own Open Dialog opens folder as installed one.

Is this thinapp bug or there is some trick to resolve it?

chrome start cmd.exe

Hello,

When using the chrome thinapp, at some websites there is a cmd.exe box that pops-up, this only happens when using the thinapped chrome as far as I can see.

The cmd.exe reads a couple off dll's like apphelp.dll

Anyone seen the same behavior with the thinapped chrome.exe is there a way to avoid this, because our environment blocks the CMD.exe process for the users.

Thanks
