ThinApp Issue On Win 7 64bit OS (EAccessViolation)

Hey Guys,

Having an issue with ThinApp v5.  I have been capturing Macro Scheduler (mjtnet.com) for quite a while, however recently I have run into an issue on Windows 7 64bit our image at work.  I get the below error when running the application.

It is only when running that application packaged under ThinApp, I can run the application outside of ThinApp and it works fine.  I can run that ThinApp package on other machines, Win 7 32 bit, and 64bit.  However I can't understand why this fails to run on various Win7 64bit images.  Any suggestions?

Access violation at address 0044FA07 in module 'msched.exe'. Read of address 88000008.

Spoke to MacroScheduler and they have advised that packaging the application via ThinApp is outside of their support and are unable to help.  The error doesn't mean anything to them.  I can run older versions of the package on the machine that were packaged with older versions of ThinApp.

Any suggestions as to what I could do to further investigate / resolve the issue?

I also have an issue with another application running on this 64bit image.  FastStone Screen Capture in the editor screen I am unable to click on the menu buttons.  Native app I can, ThinApp I can't the button presses but doesn't do anything when its ThinApp'd.

Process (ifrun60.exe) remains active (Taskmanager) after closing thinapp under windows7 (xp works)

Hi,

I have installed "oracle forms6 runtime + reports" as a Thinapp. The Thinapp works fine. I can also open the thinapp a second or third time.

But when I close the Programm the process "ifrun60.exe" remains active (Oracle Forms Runform)!!

If I try to start the programm again it waits until i kill the "old" process. After killing the process the thinapp application starts.

The Problem occurs on Windows7 32bit and 64bit.

Under Windows XP the thinapp works fine.

I tried to build the thinapp and run the thinapp in compatibility mode (Windows XP SP3) but the problem was the same.

With Process Explorer i only found out that some Threads are running. (some with Wait:UserRequest some with Wait:wrQueue)

When I install the "oracle forms6 runtime + reports" as a regular application under windows 7 it works fine.

No processes remain open when I close the application.

Are there parameter/switches for the thinapp.

Any suggestions, ideas?

Virtualized wfica32.exe does not work if workstation already has version of wfica32.exe running

$

We are using ThinApp 4.6 to virtualize the Citrix XenApp Online Plugin (web) v12 and a Citrix ICA shortcut. The idea is that workstation without a Citrix client installed will be able to run a Citrix application that has been packaged by ThinApp, but I also want users who do have a Citrix client installed locally to be able to use the package as well. Currently that latter part is failing.

When a user launches a .ICA shortcut from the package, and the workstation already has Citrix installed/running, the ICA shortcut is launched using the local Citrix client instead of the packaged Citrix client. That's bad in our case because I have customized registry settings for the packaged Citrix client to take advantage of a Citrix virtual driver that we have written. The local installation of Citrix may or may not have that configuration already in place.

This seems to be caused because the packaged wfica32.exe is called, then realized that there is already a wfica32.exe active on the machine, so it just hands off the request to that already-running (local) wfica32.exe.

Q: Anyone know how to force the 2nd instance of wfica32.exe to run?

Q: Any other ways to solve this that you can think of?

Thinapp 4.6 Office 2007 - There is not enough memory or disk space

Hi Guys, Im trying to Thinapp Office 2007 SP2 Enterprise on a Windows 7

64bit VM. Constantly Im getting the message 'There is not enough memory or disk

space to run Word' whenever I try to run any office app on my virtual machines.

So far I have tried the obvious, giving the VM 8gig ram and stupid amounts

of disk space, for the primary disk, persistent disk and temp disk.

I have also tried just packaging Word on its own.

I believe this error used to be caused by an issue with the normal.dot

template on machines, if this is the cause this time im not sure how to

troubleshoot it with persistent disks.

The only other package I have thin app'd so far is Firefox which is

obviously a lot smaller but works perfectly.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated because I would like to trial these apps around the office before the trial period runs out.

Getting error RelaunchUsingCreateProcess::CreateProcess failed when running a ThinApp in Vista

$

Hi all,

I've ThinApped an application in ThinApp 4.5 on a clean XP SP3 build and it runs perfectly on XP. The problem comes when running it on Vista; I get the error message "RelaunchUsingCreateProcess::CreateProcess failed ". I've tried ThinApping it on Vista and get the same error message running on Vista and a different error message when running on XP. I'm not concerned about it not running on XP as backward compatibility isn't strictly supported but I thought I'd try it just in case. I've also tried ThinApping it in 4.6 but get the same results. The package is linked to two other packages but I don't think that's where the problem lies as the error message refers to the executable of the main package.

I haven't been able to find much about the error apart from this post that seems to suggest it's a bug in ThinApp related to memory. The author's solve was to amend the exe of the app in question to address the memory issue. Unfortunately I don't have that luxury.

Does anyone know any more about this bug? Is there any way of solving the issue? Is it likely to be addressed in a future release?

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks!

Autocad 2008 on Windows 7 - Problem with "standard user"

$

Hello,

After strugling a bit, i finally made a portable autocad 2008 for windows 7. The problem is that only work with the administrator user (tested on several pcs). When i try with a standard user always gave the same problem: appHangb1 error.

This are the Steps made:

Virtualization of Windows 7 Ultimate with Parallels in Macbook Pro

Instalation of ThinApp 4.6

PreScan with ThinApp

Instalation of Autocad 2008

Autocad 2008 Activation

Autocad service Pack SP1 Instalation: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=10035892&linkID=9240618

Hotfix - Autodesk Activation Update: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=5620053&linkID=9240618

Copy Enu Dirs in "c:/Users/Administrator/Appdata/LOCAL/autodesk..." and "c:/Users/Administrator/Appdata/ROAMING/autodesk..." in a new "Setting" directory in autocad instalation dir: c:/Program Files/Autocad 2008/Settings"

Change al "User Paths" from Local and Roaming dirs to paths in new folder:  "c:/Program files/Autocad 2008/Settings"  (in Tools-Options-File tab)

Change autocad2008.cfg path (in Tools-Options-File tab-Help and miscellanius files names-Configuration File). Here, you cannot change de file path, you must change setting the ACADCFG enviroment variable:

on Autocad command Line write: (setenv "ACADCFG" "c:/Program files/Autocad 2008/Settings/enu/autocad2008.cfg")

PostScan Tof ThinApp

After creating the project: remove OLEAUT32.DLL from %SYSTEMSYSTEM%

Build Project

After all this the portable aplication runs on several pcs with windows 7, but only as an administrator. When i try with the Standard User, always gave me the same problem: The program hang, and if you see the error always sat "AppHangB1"

Someone could help me?? I dont know what im doing wrong, and i need urgently a portable Autocad in Windows 7. please.....

Windows Server 2003 Admin Tools

Hi all,

With the removal of the admin tools from Windows 7, I have been attempting to thinapp the toolkit to make it available on our Windows 7 64bit machines.

I created a package with all the admin tooks, exchange tools, and resource kit, wrapped it into a .msi

On my WindowsXP 32 bit test machine, everything works fine with no errors. I see all the tabs, however, when I install/run it on my Windows 7 64bit desktop, its throws an application error.

I see this when I open ADUC.

mmc_error.PNG

I click ok, and ADUC opens, however, when I "right click" on a user, I receive the following(click the image if you don't see it., I see it when I click on it, but not in the post.):

exchangeerror.PNG

My question is:

Has anyone has an issue like this, or been success in deploying the admin tools, with the exchange toolkit and resource tools?

Am I overlooking something? Is this 1 of those very limited few applications that cannot be thinapp'd?

I appreciate your time, and input.

Thanks,

Chris

Process can't terminate after exit?

$

Hi all,

It seems my application can't terminate itself upon exit. It does fine if running natively but after Thinapp packed the ThinApp image will left in process list and refuse to exit itself. I searched on forum and Google for a possible solution and possible cause but no luck. I came across someone mention using a VBscript to kill application by name after the firstParent exits, but it seems not a very reliable solution to me. Can anyone suggest a solution or a way to troubleshoot my thinapp? Or to breakdown the problem:

1. Is there a way to list all the process "inside" the virtual environment in run-time?

2. Is there a way to find all child process of a ThinApp instance?

3. What's the exit condition of ThinApp environment? all process terminates?

Getting around the file path length limit

$

I'm trying to thinapp SAS (yes, I know, it's not really my idea), and the postscan works fine, but writing it out to either a network share (Win 2008 R2) or the local disk (Win 7) isn't working because of the file path length limit.

What is weird is that sometimes it stops and it's using the //?/ modifier that should allow it the extra space to write to that location. Sometimes it isn't using that prefix.

I've looked through a lot of Windows documentation, but there doesn't seem to be a simple way of setting that network share to allow the longer paths.

I also wondered if there's a way to use a Linux server running Samba as a thinapp repository. I attempted to create a share this way, but View wouldn't add it as a repository. I'm assuming that's due to an authentication issue. There doesn't seem to be any way to configure a login to the share.

This is all using Thinapp 4.7 with View 5.

Adobe Reader and Outlook 2010 (both Thinapp-ed) missing features

$

Greetings -

I've successfully Thinapp both Adobe Reader (9.5.1 and X 10.1.3) and Office 2010 SP1 Standard (KMS activated). The VM on which they were thinapp-ed is Windows 7 32-bit and ThinApp was version 4.7.1.

I've used applink to set Adobe Reader as child app for Office -> the idea behind this is to allow users to open and preview documents in Outlook.

Also I've used applink to set Office as child app for AdobeReader -> the idea behind this is to allow users to send as email an opened PDF document.

Note that Adobe is also a child for a thinapp Firefox 12.0 (which works fine).

Case 1: PDF preview in Outlook:

-> if I double click an attachment pdf file, it opens succesfully in adobe.

-> but if I want to preview the same PDF file, it throws a "PDF Preview Handler for Vista error".

I tried with both Adobe Reader 9 and X. I even tried with both Reader X and Office thinapp-ed together (integrated no applink, in this case it does work on the thinapp VM both not on the destination one).

Case2: Send as email in Adobe Reader:

-> if I open a PDF from desktop and click the send as email option it throws a "No Outlook Profiles have been created"

-> if I open an attachment PDF in Outlook I can succesfully use the send as email option.

I thought there might be some isolation issues and played a little bit with some registry values, but without any success.

Thanks,

Adrian

Is the StatusbarDisplayName parameter broken under ThinApp 4.7.1?  My newly captured apps won't display the glorious names I designate.

Example of its usage:

Shortcut=SomeApplication.dat
WorkingDirectory=#25drive_C#25\SomeFolder\
Icon=#25drive_C#25\SomeFolder\SomeApplication.exe

Thinapp 4.6 - Scanner is busy

Hi,

We have a weird problem.

When we use a Cannon DR-2510C scanner (32bit driver) on a windows 7 32 bit client from a virtual application everything works fine.

On a windows 7 64 bit client we receive the error 'scanner is busy operation cannot be completed - 4437'.

The scanner can be used on a windows 7 64 bit client from a local application.

The scanner doesn't have a 64bit driver.

Any ideas on how to make this work?

We have thinapped RSAT for Windows 7 and it  works great.     All apps are working except the settings Tab in Group Policy Management console.   It will display the error:

                      Error Occurred Generating Report:

                      No such interface supported.

I know they are HTML reports.  We have tried to allow for .net permissions, added XML, nothing works.     Does anyone have this working and how did you do it?   We are building on windows 7 so can't really install IE with it so not sure where to go from here.

Any help or tips would be appreciated.

I'm packaging an app called SAS 9.3

There are indeed a series of msi's that exist in c:\windows\installer and they have been included in the Thinapp, but it seems these files are dynamically named and so 4c1ab3.msi does not exist! For example I just tried to install the msi again on the same machine and the log now states this..(everytime I try to install it tries to locate a different msi name)

The system cannot open the device or file specified.

Any pointers welcome...this isn't specific to just this app, I had the same problem with Adobe CS6 and that was convieniently solved by excluding Acrobat from the package. I don't have the option to remove anything else from this package. I should perhaps mention that it is a 4.1GB MSI and a 4.2GB DAT in case it's relevant, but I'm using msiexec v5 on Windows 7 SP1.
