Hi,
How can we make our application to read dependencies from capture's local GAC i.e,
%SystemRoot%/assembly/GAC_32 only, through thinapp.
Here is my scenario in detail
My application A.exe has a compile time dependency on a dll B.dll that is refered from GAC.
to avoid redistribution i don't supply that as a part of MSI A.msi which installs application A.exe
1. I take clean system with thinapp installed.
2. Take first snapshot
3. install A.msi
4. Manually install B.dll in GAC of the system(this is a temperory step later seperate msi installer will do this).
5. take second snapshot and build the capture.
6. copy the capture onto another clean system with .net etc installed
6. Now i try to execute A.exe which FAILS as it says it is unable to find the dependency B.dll
however it was very much a part of the capture and can be seen in the %SystemRoot%/assembly/GAC_32.
however if i install the dll in the GAC of Host system ,to which i have copied the capture, A.exe runs fine.
but this is not my requirement.
Why is the dependency not being resolved capture's local GAC
Is there any way to resolves this .
Thank you in advance

Is it true that ThinApp does not support COM+ objects? If this is true then I have a problem.
I have a legacy program that I am trying to ThinApp, and it contains COM+ objects. However, I do not need the functionality that these objects provide. Is it possible to edit the post-install snapshot and delete the COM+ object entries and therefore not package this functionality in ThinApp? Can anyone think of any other workarounds? Thanks,
CS
Thanks to evilone's help, starcraft and Broodwar (and Insurrection) worked after updating battlenet. However, I could not play battlenet. It gave an error:
"Battle.net was unable to properly identify your application version..."
Here are the minimum files required to play the campaign.
I've split them up and linked them using "OptionalAppLinks=*.exe"
compression = fast

It be great if optionalapplinks can also detect iso files as virtual cdrom. Then there's no need to mount the iso file first using 3rd party tools.

My question is, can I input some credentials in the AppSync paramater section of the package.ini for ftp use? Our security group does not want to use annonymous ftp. I see all the sync paramaters such as the url, update frequency and the like, but nothing for authentication. I have successfully tested updating a thinapp using a network share, but my credentials allow that. We want a laptop user at home to connect to the ftp site and get the updated thinapp.
We have virtualized Lotus Notes 8.5 with ThinApp 4.5, Writecopy iscolation. It is working well, but a notes2.exe process takes a long time to end after quitting Notes. If the desktop session is logged out of when notes2.exe is still running, get the Windows message to "click to end now."
Has anyone seen this before? If so, was anything able to resolve this?
I could use a vbs script to end the process on shutdown, any one know of any pitfalls with that?
The build was done on a clean XP Pro SP2 vm.
Thank You.
I'm struggling with Teradata SQL Assistant so if anyone has had any success with this I'd appreciate the help.
Here is my problem:
I install the software in order as required by the ODBC drivers. In order for this to function correctly it must be installed with the pre-req's in a specific order (from my understanding from http://forums.teradata.com/forum/connectivity/trying-to-set-up-odbc-connection)
The error (attached) is in the Teradata ODBC Driver Setup: "Unknown error occurred in the terasso library." (very helpful)
The locally installed copy functions correctly, however the Thinapp version gives the me same error regardless if I run it from a "clean" PC or a PC with the local copy of Teradata installed.
I've run procmon.exe from Sysinternals and tracked down any DLL's that appear to be missing from the package and included them with no solution.
From what I've been reading, this error happens when the pre-req's aren't installed before the ODBC driver and the program itself but this isn't the case. It almost seems like the ODBC can't see the pre-req's when it runs in the bubble but procmon.exe isn't complaining about not finding any files.
Any thoughts?

(thinapp version 4.5 on XP SP3)
Hi,
I have installed "oracle forms6 runtime + reports" as a Thinapp. The Thinapp works fine. I can also open the thinapp a second or third time.
But when I close the Programm the process "ifrun60.exe" remains active (Oracle Forms Runform)!!
If I try to start the programm again it waits until i kill the "old" process. After killing the process the thinapp application starts.
The Problem occurs on Windows7 32bit and 64bit.
Under Windows XP the thinapp works fine.
I tried to build the thinapp and run the thinapp in compatibility mode (Windows XP SP3) but the problem was the same.
With Process Explorer i only found out that some Threads are running. (some with Wait:UserRequest some with Wait:wrQueue)
When I install the "oracle forms6 runtime + reports" as a regular application under windows 7 it works fine.
No processes remain open when I close the application.
Are there parameter/switches for the thinapp.
Any suggestions, ideas?

Hi guys,
I got the following problem. I thinapped Firefox and executed it on an other system. firefox.exe created a folder "Mozilla Firefox" containing the following stuff (http://communities.vmware.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/2-39242/thin.png)
However I'm missing the%ProgramFilesDir% folder (where FF puts its main files). Is there any way to make %ProgramFilesDir% directly accessible?
Thanks guys
Is there any tool to convert the txt registry files (when capturing) into an equivalent reg file?

Hi all,
With the removal of the admin tools from Windows 7, I have been attempting to thinapp the toolkit to make it available on our Windows 7 64bit machines.
I created a package with all the admin tooks, exchange tools, and resource kit, wrapped it into a .msi
On my WindowsXP 32 bit test machine, everything works fine with no errors. I see all the tabs, however, when I install/run it on my Windows 7 64bit desktop, its throws an application error.
I see this when I open ADUC.
I click ok, and ADUC opens, however, when I "right click" on a user, I receive the following(click the image if you don't see it., I see it when I click on it, but not in the post.):
Associated Event Logs:

My question is:
Has anyone has an issue like this, or been success in deploying the admin tools, with the exchange toolkit and resource tools?
Am I overlooking something? Is this 1 of those very limited few applications that cannot be thinapp'd?
I appreciate your time, and input.
Thanks,
Chris
I have now experienced this happen a few times on applications that force a reboot. Has anyone else had this problem ?
After doing a prescan and installing the application a forced reboot occurs. When the application restarts the setup capture does not recognise that a prescan has taken place.
Can anyone tell me what the command line syntax is to launch a post scan ?
I have also noticed that the HKEY_CURRENT_SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\RUN is empty as if its been wiped. Any help on this would be welcome
Hi,
Package Environment:
Clean Windows 7 German SP1 (32Bit)
Production Environment:
WIndows 7 German SP1 (32Bit)
Office 2010 natively installed
.NET 4 natively installed
After downloading and installing the new Version 4.7.1 I tried to package Sharepoint Designer 2010 SP1 on a Windows 7 32Bit SP1 German language platform.
I followed all the suggested steps like copy the deleted lines into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE text file, and added our KMS server to the config.xml within SharePointDesigner.WW. and all the other things mentioned.
KMS ist available and reachable (ping and rdp tested).
I also made sure that the Office Software Protection Service is stopped before the post scan.
I tried also to install the App-V package from Microsoft and configured the Sharepoint Designer before doing the prescan (offvirt.msi SPD=1).
But I still get the Licensing issue :-(
By the way: Since version 4.6.0 Visio and Project 2010 SP1 are running as thinapps beside a natively installed Office 2010 without any issues (not looking on cross over functions :-)).
It has just worked doing the following steps:
1.) App-V installed and regsitered Visio and Project (OffVirt.msi VISIOPREM=1 PRJPRO=1)
2.) Prescan
3.) Installed Visio/Project with SP1
4.) Start Visio / Project
5.) Stop the Office Software Protection Service
6.) Postscan
=> Both Visio and Project working fine beside the native installed Office 2010!
Greetings-
I've thinapped Office 2010 Pro Plus SP1 (MSI package, using as base VM Windows 7 x32, latest Thinapp 4.7.1); I want to be integrated with the local Adobe Reader X, IE and Firefox on view virtual desktops (running Windows 7 x64).
So for example, say I just want pdf preview in Outlook -> before building I will add the needed "VirtualizeExternalOutOfProcessCOM.." for adobe reader. If deployed on Windows 7 x32 pdf preview works in Outlook, but not on Windows 7 x64.
So I uncommented wow64=0; this fixes the issue.
But introduced another one -> printing does not work anymore in Office, even to the XPS printer.
Similar, if I want deeper integration and instead I create an entry for local IE, FF, Adobe Reader to be able to use the option send as email from opened pdf docs, have Office plugins in browsers; the integration will work on Windows 7 x64 only if I uncomment wow64=0 (for pdf preview in Outlook, the rest works without this) but this will introduce the printing issue for everything that is virtualized (e.g. Office, local IE/FF ran through bubble, etc).
By printing does not work I mean that by clicking print nothing happens; it's like the print job does not get created (the small printing window appears and closes quickly).
Thanks!
Adrian
We have thinapped RSAT for Windows 7 and it works great. All apps are working except the settings Tab in Group Policy Management console. It will display the error:
Error Occurred Generating Report:
No such interface supported.
I know they are HTML reports. We have tried to allow for .net permissions, added XML, nothing works. Does anyone have this working and how did you do it? We are building on windows 7 so can't really install IE with it so not sure where to go from here.
Any help or tips would be appreciated.

Hi All,
I'm having a nightmare of a time with Outlook 2010 on one of our pools with Outlook 2010 crashing out with faulting module ntdll.dll error (I have attached the full fault log from event viewer). The back story is that I successfully thinapped Office 2010 5 months a go and it's been working perfectly on all of our pools. We have recently created a new pool with a new main image for one of our sister companies, the main image is the same O/S and config but is not a direct copy of the main image on our other pools. I started streaming Office 2010 to it and have had nothing but problems with it, Outlook will crash randomly at launch or shortly after. I have tried my best to pick out any differences between the new main image and the one Office 2010 is working fine on and all appears to be the same, same Group Policy, same updates and same services running etc. I understand it's not possible for it to be exactly the same unless we do a snapshot of the main image Office 2010 is currently working on but there are subtle differences like extra print drivers and some bespoke programs added to the new image which could possibly be causing conflict. I have tried my best to remove any differences, removed any additional problems etc and still Outlook crashes.
My next course of action is to use a snapshot of the main image Office is working fine on and use that as the main image for the new pool but before I do that I just wondered anyone ever encountered this issue with Outlook 2010 and how did they go about fixing it?
Regards,
Ross
