ThinApp - Reading from real OS drive

$

Hi,

Please excuse me if this is a simple question with a simple answer - i'm attempting to tune an application by putting files onto where I'd execute the ThinApp from. - hoping capture a package that when the ThinApp is executed it is able to read from a file that's pre-seeded onto the real OS disk, example below :

ThinApp capture is like below -
c:\software\ini files\                     <- empty folder

c:\software\bin\sample.exe

Real OS is like below -

c:\software\ini files\sample.ini

^ so that when I execute the ThinApp the sample.exe software discovers and parses the sample.ini from the real OS disk, I've tried Merged mode (package and c:\software\ini files\) with no luck.

Am i doing something silly here or is this not possible?

Creating file in user persistent sandbox at runtime of thinapp?

$

I have a program Edmark that creates a simple XML preferences file in it's own program files directory at first run.  I have Thinapped said program with the preconfigured XML file in the thinapp build directory "%ProgramFilesDir%\Edmark\Edmark Reading Program Home Edition - Level 1\" exactly where and how it is created on a standard install right with the main executable. But when I run/install it on our linked clones with user persistent data disks this file gets created in the users thinapp sandbox with default settings instead of using the one packaged in the program directory.

My question is then... Is there somewhere in the thinapp build folder I can put this xml file so it gets copied/put into the users persistent thinapp sandbox?

P:\Users\vditest\AppData\Roaming\Thinstall\Edmark Reading Program Home Edition - Level 1\%ProgramFilesDir%\Edmark\Edmark Reading Program Home Edition - Level 1\Mach Prefs.xml

Can it be because I added this file manually to the build directory after my postscan? Did it not get picked up by the build batch file and needs added to a list of files to include somewhere?  Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide!

ThinDirect IE11 - Thinapp 5.1.1

We have a requirement, where Snipping Tool and Printscreen should be disabled when browsing a particular internal website. The browser installed in image is IE11. To programmatically disable Printscreen and snipping tool, we choose the option of Thindirect in conjunction with thinapp application (launch native ie with url along with  thinapp script to disable screen capture using the two tools and ). The thinapp application works as expected. When thindirect is implemented via GPO, it enters an infinite loop where redirection is invoked over and over again!

The solutions mentioned before like include ThinDirect.txt with entry to the application and ThindirectWhitelistOnly=0 is attempted already, but in vain. The URL syntax is like *.mydomain.mychoice. Any suggestions on thindirect for IE11 using v5.1.1?

Thinapp Acrobat DC AcroCEF.exe problem

I try to thinapp Adobe Acrobat DC and faced with problem.

Acrobat has little executable AcroCEF.exe (looks like this is Chrome 45).

This exe crashes on Acrobat start (see attach). I have replace it with selfmade

exe which do nothing, just starts and stops after 5 sec. This resolves problem with crash,

but original AcroCEF.exe is required for Fill & Sign tool.

For thinapp I used Thinapp ver. 5.0, 5.1, 5.1.1, 5.2.

Has anyone thinapp Acrobat DC and how to resolve AcroCEF.exe problem?

ThinApp Issue On Win 7 64bit OS (EAccessViolation)

Hey Guys,

Having an issue with ThinApp v5.  I have been capturing Macro Scheduler (mjtnet.com) for quite a while, however recently I have run into an issue on Windows 7 64bit our image at work.  I get the below error when running the application.

It is only when running that application packaged under ThinApp, I can run the application outside of ThinApp and it works fine.  I can run that ThinApp package on other machines, Win 7 32 bit, and 64bit.  However I can't understand why this fails to run on various Win7 64bit images.  Any suggestions?

---------------------------

Application Error

---------------------------

Exception EAccessViolation in module msched.exe at 0004FA07.

Access violation at address 0044FA07 in module 'msched.exe'. Read of address 88000008.

---------------------------

OK

---------------------------

Spoke to MacroScheduler and they have advised that packaging the application via ThinApp is outside of their support and are unable to help.  The error doesn't mean anything to them.  I can run older versions of the package on the machine that were packaged with older versions of ThinApp.

Any suggestions as to what I could do to further investigate / resolve the issue?

I also have an issue with another application running on this 64bit image.  FastStone Screen Capture in the editor screen I am unable to click on the menu buttons.  Native app I can, ThinApp I can't the button presses but doesn't do anything when its ThinApp'd.

Cisco Jabber Client 9.0.x ThinApp Issues

I am currently having an issue with Cisco Jabber Client ThinApp running on Windows 7 remembering the login credentials on startup.

BACKGROUND:

We are in the process of updating our VDI environment to Windows 7. Our current environment is running Windows XP SP3 in a non-persistent configuration.  Initially I built the thinapp using ThinApp Version 4.7 on a clean Windows XP VM.  The ThinApp works fine under Windows XP but for some reason on Windows 7 it refuses to remember the login information from session to session.  If I open it, log in, exit and then relaunch it remembers it in the same session.

I have also installed Jabber on the Parent VM and it has the same issue.

I am just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue?  Is anyone else using the Cisco Jabber Client?

Thanks,

Jon

Thinapp clickonce app

Hi

I'm working with a click once app that requires you to logon to a webpage first and then have the link on the webpage launch the app. This means I can't open the clickonce app directly, because there is session token that is passed from the website to the click once app. In a last attempt to get this to work with Horizon View application pools I'm trying to put it in a thinapp. The problem is I've captured internet explorer 10 and that works as expected, and I've tried to capture the dot net framework 4.5 as well. When  I launch the click once app , I get a message that "ClickOnce has stopped working" and the event is CLR20r3 and it references dfsvc.exe, System.Drawing, and System.ArgumentException. Has anyone seen something similar?

If I set ChildProcessEnvironmentDefault=External  I don't get that error, but that's because its using the local dot net framework.

Downloads not available with ThinApp virtualised Internet Explorer 10

I am attempting to virtualise Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 7 x64 to deploy on Windows 10 x64.

I can successfully virtualise this using ThinApp, however when using the virtualised copy on Windows 10, I am unable to download any files and also cannot access the downloads area within Internet Explorer either from the menu or using the CTRL+J keyboard shortcut.

Anybody seen this behaviour before or managed to get downloads working with ThinApp virtualised Internet Explorer?

Thanks

Entry Point to physical installed software

Hi guys

I am having an application which runs with an Access frontend (*.mde) and has in the background an oracle database.

Up till now the software was only compatible with access 2003 and we had the following installations thinapped:

- Access 2003

- Oracle Client

- Oracle ODBC Connection

- some regkeys

Now the application is compatible with access 2016. Access 2016 is installed on our base image, so we don't need to thinapp access 2016. We only need the Oracle Client, ODBC Connection, Regkeys... but the entry point has to be Access.

For example:

[XYZ.exe]

Source="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16\MSACCESS.EXE"              (--> also tried it with %programdir% variable)

WorkingDirectory=\\Server\Share

CommandLine="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16\MSACCESS.EXE" /runtime "\\Server\Share\Access.mde

Shortcuts=%Desktop%

But at the end of the build process I get the Information that it can't find %programdir%\Microsoft Office\Office16\MSACCESS.EXE"

I guess it's looking for this path into the capture folder and not on the physical machine. How can I make this working or is it not possible?

The [Isolation] is set to: DirectoryIsolationMode=Merged

Kind regards

64 Bit OS/Apps don't support VBS?

$

We have recently moved to 64 bit base OS for Horizon.

When building any thinapp on this new base OS, it will not work if I include a VBS file (for doing the FirstParentStart functions etc):

  • Packaged Thinapp works fine without a VBS file.
  • VBS file works fine on it's own.
  • Even if I comment out everything or have a blank VBS file, the ThinApp package doesn't work.

It does attempt to run, but fails:

  • ThinApp popup appears with license details
  • the process spawns (seen in Task Manager), but then exits.
  • Packaged App doesn't run
  • no errors are shown.

Found similar issue (VB script crash thinapp ) but the solution doesn't apply to me as that DLL is not present in the package.

Any ideas?

Creating a similar application structure to the PortableApps format

Hello, I'm new in this forum. I wanted to ask how to create the program a similar structure to the PortableApps format, but without the Source and Other folders. I don't need a lot of .ini files in order to save application settings. It would be much better to convert the existing HKEY_CURRENT_USER.txt, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.txt, HKEY_USERS.txt files into one .reg file. When I launch vregtool.exe, it displays the following message: "Error processing command-line arguments: Excepted .tvr registry file." I don't know which .tvr file is excepted. I found only one .tvr file: Registry.rw.tvr, which was in Capture folder of ThinappDir.  Also, I want to the sandbox to be saved in the Data folder. I tried to modify package.ini settings and re-build the program with build.bat, but it had no effect. When I tried to open the program again, the new sandbox was created automatically named with app name.
I changed the default name of the Sandbox to Data. I also modified SandboxPath. But nothing is working, even after launching build.bat. How to fix everything? Thanks in advance.

ThinApp'ed IE6 issues with Temporary Internet Files.

Hi,
I am currently facing an issue with a Thinapp'ed IE 6 Module. We are trying to run a web based application Via a thinapp'ed IE6 Module. At one point during the functionality testing we need to download a report(both .xls and .pdf format) and open the same.
However, opening the same gives a "file not found" error. On further analysis we see that this files is getting downloaded to "Temporary internet files" folder and the file just gets deleted automatically before it opens.
We tried setting the isolation mode to "Merged" in the ##attributes.ini" file in %Internet Cache% in the project directory.
Also, we tried adding the below properties in Package.ini File, but no luck.
VirtualizeExternalOutOfProcessCOM=0
ChildProcessEnvironmentExceptions=WINWORD.EXE;EXCEL.EXE;POWERPNT.EXE;OUTLOOK.EXE;MOC.EXE
ChildProcessEnvironmentDefault=External
We are not sure how the file is actually getting deleted from Temporary internet files" folder automatically.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks a lot in advance.

MS Visio and Project 2013 on Windows 10 - License Issue

Hi All,

I am trying to get Visio and Project 2013 to run on Windows 10. Every time I launch it I receive an error stating "Microsoft Office can't find your license for this application. A repair attempt was unsuccessful or was cancelled. Microsoft Office will now exit".

I ThinApp'd it on a clean system, but am launching it on systems that have other Office apps installed locally.

I tried to use the TAOffice tool as stated in VMware's KB 2107369, but receive errors when trying to run it. One error states "OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform\OSPPSVC.exe error: The system cannot find the file specified".

I tried copying OSPPSVC.exe to the locations on Program Files and Program Files (x86), then it give me an error stating "OSPPSVC.exe is native".

I used the TAOffice tool when I ThinApp'd these on Windows 7 and it worked well.

Does anyone know how to get this working????

Many Thanks!!!

Did anybody successfully thinapp office 2016?

Hi all

Today I tried to package office 2016 (with KMS). But somehow the licensing made some problems.

I tried the guides of 2013 (Guide) and 2010 (Guide) but either didn't help.

Was anyone able to do this successfully (with KMS)?

Thinapp of older Java client w system-installed IE11

$

I have a Java app that requires an older version of Java 1.6.0_43 or 1.6.0_45 (either one is fine..I chose '45' for the Thinapp).

I've had this app in production for nearly 2 years with no issues.  It appears when the VM has 1.6.0_85 Java and IE11 installed, the application breaks.  If a pool has either Java '85' OR IE11, the app works fine.

I rebuilt the Thinapp from scratch on a clean VM machine with IE 11 installed as the default browser.  If I set the default ISO mode to MERGED (original Thinapp was set to WRITE COPY), I get to the point when IE launches and I get the following error

"C:\progra~2\java\jre6\bin\ssvagent.exe"  The service cannot accept control messages at this time.

Typically, I would include the system installed IE as an entry point and add a CommandLine entry in the package.ini to point to the specific URL location for the application.

For testing, I omitted the CommandLine entry and manually typed in the URL once I launched the IE11 entry point

Deployed Win7/64bit

any assistance would be appreciated.

Registry.rw.tvr error

hello

i use a virtualized program and there is the registry file registry.rw.tvr with 126.521.344 bytes.

so it seems that the size of this file makes problems, bekause it produces always copys of it

with the name damaged....

i looked for the vregtool from net and tried this:

vregtool registry.rw.tvr printstats

as result

unable to load error message for id 13

i also tryed to export, but also the same.

i think the size of the registry is on the limit because it doesent become more on size,

it has the same size since the problems began

and i found no solution for repair the registry or clean it

that the size will reduce.

sure, i can delete it, but its a mail program and there are all the settings and accounts

and i dont want to loose all the accounts and mailprograms, because i tried to

delete the registry and copy than the mails in the new one, but than i can't see the mails.

i hope there is a solution or program wo cleans the registry

regards

Fatal Application Exit - Google Chrome

$

Hi All,

I have recently tried to package Google Chrome (55.0.2883.75) and keep receiving an error message "Fatal Application Exit - ThinApp has encountered and unexpected error" it displays some PID (1944) and create process.cpp (1949) numbers, clicking retry the message comes up again, PID=5236, create process=4444  but then says "unexpected exception in RelaunchUsingCreateProcess"

One place I found this error in another forum, the OP said it was an isolation issue left the post unanswered and didn't say any more.

The quickest way to reproduce this error is to thinapp Chrome, change MSIIs64 to 0 and the MSIInstallDirectory to Google\Chrome\application.  I am installing the thinapp to the same location as the physical location so the shortcuts users have setup continue working.  The next step was to change the name of the thinapp EXE, but found it failed at this point.  In fact it failed just by changing the MSIIs64 and MSI install dir to Google.

Opening the Entry Point cmd.exe I can run browse all the internal locations, run DIR as many times as I like, run copy con and create a short txt file inside the thinapp/sandbox but if I run chrome.exe it crashes and takes the cmd window with it. I can open the EP I created for windows explorer that opens at Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\application and browse, once again can't run the chrome EP without crashing both chrome and the thinapp EP of explorer.exe

I have found running the uninstalled EXE EP seems to work, but as soon as it is installed, the EP fails/crashes.

The version I created for a pilot release worked, with very little modified in the package, but someone tried to open a DOCX file from a link and received the same error as my tests above.  I had to withdraw the pilot at this point.

I have attached both the pilot and experimental package.ini files for anybody to have a look.

Most of the paths in the package had the default attributes file.  The last version I created unmodified, I built it, tested/worked, modified MSIIs64=0, built/tested/worked, changed MSIInstallDirectory=Google, built/test/failed.  I have even played with wow64 and AltArchitectureShortcut to see if any of this changes things.

Background behind Google Chrome - I have packaged for our company Chrome for the last year and a half, built the MST and modified it for fixing the shortcut errors in Windows 98.1 because of the metro interface and the way it uses classes.  I contribute on a ninja site for packaging under Chrome, so I know "how to Chrome stuff"

The installer might be 64bit, but it installs into PF (x86), so Chrome is not fully 64bit.

I am hoping someone might know how to help with this problem.

Thanks
