Running Windows 7 32 Bit
Running ThinApp Setup Capture 4.6.2-467908
I follow these steps:
Step by Step Instructions on How to ThinApp Newer Java Versions | VMware ThinApp Blog - VMware Blogs
I realize these instructions are a few years old. I do get some issues.
1) I do not get the option to customize the Java install
2) Internet Explorer 8 does not show me to under Manage Add-Ons JQSIEStartDetectorImpl Class I do disable both SSV Helper Classess. I leave the Java pluging
3) When I do a post scan, I uncheck all and check for debug options but iexplore.exe isn't one of them for an entry point
4) I checked java.exe as my entry point since one is required
5) I edited the package.ini and the project as stated
6) I build it
7) We use a central location on the network for thinapps. I place it there.
8) Thru a Virtual Desktop I verify that I am running 6.16
9) I go to the network location and execute bin\java.exe or %ProgramFilesDir%\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe
10) Open IE and test the version. Still 6.16
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
If we activate Excel Thinapp from a Native App, it will not be able to find Excel's DLL or Binary then it will show error "cannot find Excel" However, if we use Native Excel, we will not have this problem.
Hi all,
We have a Java appled application, with require some local resources an a winword plugin.
All the local resources i have put in a thinapp.
If i open a word document from within the JavaAppled winword will start but my thinapp crashes! (i have a entry point to iexplore.exe on a windows 10 os)
I is use:
VirtualizeExternalOutOfProcessCOM=0
ChildProcessEnvironmentExceptions=Winword.EXE
ChildProcessEnvironmentDefault=Virtual
winword starts and no thinapp crash, but no i don't have the word plugin becourse winword start out side the thin environment.
so my question is how to pull winword 2016 in to a thinapp environment.
many thanks
Roger
I have captured SAPGUI 7.20 with Business Explorer 7 successfully but am have one issue that I hope someone here may be able to assist with.
I am using 2 seperate entry points, one for SAP logon pad and one for Business Explorer. SAP logon pad is working fine haven't had any problems but clicking on Business Explorer entry point calls native Excel 2010 as it's suppose to but once a worksheet is open clicking on the "File" tab in Excel an error message screen displays. It's a thinapp error and reads:
Unable to load DLL C:\Program Files\Microsoft Lync\communicator.exe->Uc.dll
The specified module could not be found.
This same error window pops up a total of six times and once cleared with an OK or cancel I can continue working within Excel 2010 fine.
So it's not a show stopper but I'm getting some flack about the annoyance factor of it.
I captured this thinapp project on a clean Windows XP SP3 with Office 2010 virtual machine and getting this error on a Windows 7 SP1 end-user workstation. The end-user workstation does have Microsoft Lync installed on it while the capture machine did not. The head scratcher for me is...
Why the heck is anything in the Excel/Thinapp looking for communicator in the first place?
I tried to go back and recapture with that specific dll (Uc.dll) by adding it to a "Microsoft" folder under %ProgramFilesDir% but now the entry point doesn't call native Excel so that's a no go.
I'm thinking it would be better just to have the thinapp completely ignore the exsistance of native Microsoft communicator but not sure how to accomplish that.
Any insight or help is greatly apprecaited.
Thanks,
Brian
We have recently had to ThinApp an updated version of a program for one of our clients. The previous capture was done by another company and we do not have access to the build files, so we are starting anew.
The ThinApp was done on a clean workstation and Office 2010 is installed natively on the server. (This is how it ran with the earlier version as well)
The application runs fine with the exception of some of the reports which require an excel template. When the report is run, theyfail stating it could not see the report file ie. C:\appname\Reports\rptfiles\History.rpt
These rpt files are part of the application and are contained within the ThinApp.
When I run process explorer I can see Excel being launched and it coming back with a PATH NOT FOUND to the same rpt file name
Excel would not launch at all from the program until I added
VirtualizeExternalOutOfProcessCOM=0
I currently have the following added as well for testing, however they have no impact.
ChildProcessEnvironmentExceptions=EXCEL.EXE
ChildProcessEnvironmentDefault=Virtual
I have tried setting all the ##Attributes in the folder paths to the report files to merged, however it has had no effect.
I'm assuming since the excel is running outside the virtual file space it does not have visibility to access the report file within the thinapp.
Does anyone know how I can have Excel launch externally yet still have access to the virtual file space?
Does anyone know if it is possible to disable the pop-up that appears in the bottom right corner of the screen when starting a ThinApp application? I've been searching through the documentation and the internet and I haven't seen anything on this.
Is there a way to get multiple versions of Acrobat Reader to run at the same time. We have some old legacy apps that require Acrobat Reader 4? We have created a thinapp package for Acrobat Reader 8 and it works great. However, we can not run both Acrobat Reader 4 and Acrobat Reader 8 (thinapp) at the same time. If Acrobat Reader 8 (thinapp) is running and you try to open Acrobat Reader 4, it opens Acrobat Reader 8. If I close Acrobat Reader 8 (thinapp), then we are able to open Acrobat Reader 4. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Hi all,
We're going down the application virtualization path but we're not sure which product to go for. Does anyone have any experience with both products? Any comments are really appreciated.
Thanks
Good news! ThinApp 4.0.1 is now available for download (as of 4pm PST Dec 4th 2008)
This a maintenance release that addresses a number of known issues. It also delivers some nice additions to utilities within the ThinApp Suite including the ThinReg application. You can find out the more about the contents of this release here at http://www.vmware.com/support/thinapp4/doc/releasenotes_thinapp401.html
Thanks so much for your interest. We would love to hear what you think.

Hi all ,no need to mention that I love this forum and the help I got from its member,thank you all.
The question is this , what are the entry points needed in JDK 6 in order for an IDE like net beans or INtellij Idea to use them with no problem .
I allready packaged net beans with success but only the application ,is it possible to package the application and the JDK 6 at the same time so you dont need to download JDK 6 on every computer ?
Intellij Idea was packaged but is very slow to open and takes time dont know why .
Thanks for everyone contribution for an answer.....

I have tried adding a .vbs-file in the project's root sometimes, but It always results in that the application gets probiem with dlls after the script has been parsed..
Here, I attempt to create an exception the Windows Firewall before the application starts. It works, but when the main entrypoint starts, it wines about missing ocx/dlls.. Have I missed somethin obvous?
Function OnFirstSandboxOwner
ExecuteExternalProcess("netsh firewall add allowedprogram z:\apps\app.exe ThinApp")
End Function
Function OnLastProcessExit
ExecuteExternalProcess("netsh firewall delete allowedprogram z:\apps\app.exe ThinApp")
End Function
I'm struggling with Teradata SQL Assistant so if anyone has had any success with this I'd appreciate the help.
Here is my problem:
I install the software in order as required by the ODBC drivers. In order for this to function correctly it must be installed with the pre-req's in a specific order (from my understanding from http://forums.teradata.com/forum/connectivity/trying-to-set-up-odbc-connection)
The error (attached) is in the Teradata ODBC Driver Setup: "Unknown error occurred in the terasso library." (very helpful)
The locally installed copy functions correctly, however the Thinapp version gives the me same error regardless if I run it from a "clean" PC or a PC with the local copy of Teradata installed.
I've run procmon.exe from Sysinternals and tracked down any DLL's that appear to be missing from the package and included them with no solution.
From what I've been reading, this error happens when the pre-req's aren't installed before the ODBC driver and the program itself but this isn't the case. It almost seems like the ODBC can't see the pre-req's when it runs in the bubble but procmon.exe isn't complaining about not finding any files.
Any thoughts?

(thinapp version 4.5 on XP SP3)
We have our internal products and we are working on to make them as ThinApp. One of our product is compatible with Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 2008R2 (compatible with all windows x86 and x64 OS). We are using ThinApp original license (tied up with VMWare) to create ThinApps.
The error is following:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Problem signature:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These are the following inputs I'm providing here:
1. ThinApp of this product works fine on Windows XP (ThinApp created using XP box) without any issues.
2. If we create ThinApp of this product on Windows 7 and on Windows 2008R2, the above error we get.
3. We have checked that the folder "C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Roaming\Thinstall\Application Folder" is cleared.
4. ThinApp is captured sucessfully, because the above config laboratory.exe is running in sand box but after building the exe which comes in bin folder is not running, so the problem is after build only.
5. We are using original thinapp license, no trial.
Any suggestion would be appreciated very much.
Thanking You,

Hi All,
I am capturing an application using Thinapp 4.7.3 which has DCOM services . When captured , i am not able to check the services when i open the virtual explorer and "run as administrator" the "dcomcnfg.exe" in system32 folder(Tested on clean machine).
I am not sure whether we can see the DCOM services in the virtual explorer . How can we make sure that DCOM services are captured in the package.
I cannot test the package as i am not the end user . Once packaged , it will go for UAT where it will be tested . I don't want the package to fail in UAT.
Please share your views and help me!!!

I've used ThinApp for portable VST plug-ins development. Using .exe as entry point everything works fine. But .dll files of VST plug-ins saves almost all data in registry and don't use the sandbox. How to make .dll file of VST plug-in portable? Is it possible to create an entry point of the .dll file?
