Oracle 10g patch and psapi.dll conflict

$

I'm trying to package Oracle 10g (with patch version 10.2.0.4). When trying to "setup-capture" the Oracle patch, it appears that the Thinapp process is hanging the setup routine. While in the midst of capture, the Oracle install routine will hang. If I exit out of the Thinapp Setup Capture, the install will continue. I've narrowed it down to a native psapi.dll tug-of-war.

Has anyone encountered this issue when trying to package the oracle patch? How did you wind up resolving the issue?

I'm using the latest Thinapp version 4.6.

Thanks

Thinapp stuck in 'Pending Install' in View Administrator

Hello,

So I've got a ThinApp that I assigned to a desktop in View Administrator, then I un-assigned it for testing.. Now I want to re-assign it but it's status on this VM is 'Pending Install', it's been pending all day now. I've rebooted the VM, made sure that the ThinApp is indeed removed from the VM.

The ThinApp admin guide says for this situation to go to Inventory -> Thinapps, then click the thinapp name, then go to the Desktop tab and click Retry Install, but all 3 of the buttons on that screen are grayed out so I can force removal of the status or reinstall.. So what do I do now??

Thanks!!

Thinapp 4.6 Office 2007 - There is not enough memory or disk space

Hi Guys, Im trying to Thinapp Office 2007 SP2 Enterprise on a Windows 7

64bit VM. Constantly Im getting the message 'There is not enough memory or disk

space to run Word' whenever I try to run any office app on my virtual machines.

So far I have tried the obvious, giving the VM 8gig ram and stupid amounts

of disk space, for the primary disk, persistent disk and temp disk.

I have also tried just packaging Word on its own.

I believe this error used to be caused by an issue with the normal.dot

template on machines, if this is the cause this time im not sure how to

troubleshoot it with persistent disks.

The only other package I have thin app'd so far is Firefox which is

obviously a lot smaller but works perfectly.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated because I would like to trial these apps around the office before the trial period runs out.

We are trying to Thinapp IBM SPSS Statistics 19.

After installing and having it activated via SPSS® site license on a clean Windows XP machine we capture it with Thinapp 4.5

Problem is that we get the following error after having the package started:

>Error # 7001

>There is no license for IBM SPSS Statistics.

>Execution of this command stops

>Specific symptom number: 18

End of job:  2 command lines 1 errors 0 warnings 2 CPU seconds

Support of IBM gave us the following response:

"Resolution Description:

This problem is generally seen when a user does not have at least read permission to the following persistence path. Below are the full paths for XP .

Windows XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel RMS Development Kit\System"

Thinapp iTunes 10?

I've noticed in looking around that making a ThinApp version of iTunes is a bear with 9.1.  Has anyone tried and been successful with 10.1.x?  If it is the same process, I can certainly try that.  If not, what steps might have gotten it working?  Purpose for this is primarily for syncing iPhones/iPads. TIA.

has anyone tried streaming hummingbird with thinapp4.6 and View 4.5?

I am able to successfully capture the application but when I stream it to the desktop, all the links are broken?

Are the steps different to package an application when application streaming is required?

Stop child process on exit of parent

$

Hi,

I'm struggling with my Office 2010 ThinApp and have come to the point where I need kill some child processes spawned.

The situation;

- user tries to save a document to a webservice (SharePoint)

- office launches Microsoft Office Upload Center and uploads the file - all is well

- user closes all office applications - problem!

The sandboxes won't close properly since the Upload Center is still running... this apparently is two files (MSOSYNC.EXE and MSOUC.EXE).

So I try to make a script to kill these two process OnFirstParentExit... but either the script is not running or it's getting confused by the fact that the upload center process "inherits" the name of the Parent. I.e. if Word.exe started and launched the Upload Center then it will spawn a Word.exe process instead of the "expected" MSOUC.EXE. Now, I can't kill Word.exe because it could be Excel doing the upload job, and I can't kill ALL Office entry points because while the user would maybe exit Word he could still want Excel up and running... makes sense?

Is there anyway to actually stop the process I want? (I.e. get it's "proper" name or even taskid without playing around manually with tasklist and taskkill?

(I'm currently using ThinApp 4.6.1 on Windows XP SP3)

Office Communicator 2007 R2 (outloook integration error) on XP with Office 2010 SP1

$

So I have followed the document http://communities.vmware.com/thread/263969 to package Communicator 2007 R2. All running "tickety boo" except there is a little red blob on the task bar icon showing "Outook Integration Error". As expected the Outlook integration with status updates and the green/amber/red lights next to contacts is not shown...

Now, Microsoft says this is due to your primary SMTP not being the same in both Outlook and Communicator and that you can fix this error by adding the regkey:

KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator

create DWORD DisableEmailComparisonCheck=1

Despite the unlikelyhood of my primary SMTP address being different I have added this key to the project, rebuilt it but the error is still there.

I have then followed MS Method 2 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951644 of adding an adm file to the GPO and editing the "Disable email comparison check for Outlook PIM integration", still no dice.

The VM where I am trying to run this is a View 5 VM with XP SP3, Office 2010 SP1 is installed in the build. (Office 2010 is not thinapp'd)

I have also tested this on Windows 7 machine with Office 2010 installed, same results.

I have also tried changing the below section on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.TXT to "isolation_writecopy" instead of "isolation_full" - no difference.

As can be seen below, the DisableEmailComparisonCheck is also there and set to 1 which in theory should get rid of that error.

isolation_writecopy HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Communicator

  Value=EvalCleanup
  REG_DWORD=#01#00#00#00

Is anyone else experiencing this or can point me in the right direction?

Much appreciated!

ieframe.dll issues when using local IE entry point with Office 2007

$

Hello,

I have captured Office Pro Plus 2007 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) using ThinApp 4.7 - the capture machine is XP SP3 with IE8, which is the lowest common demoniator of all my production machines.

During the capture process I elected to create an entry point for the locally installed Internet Explorer (to interact with Sharepoint). This entry point is largely working well except for the fact that it doesn't seem to load ieframe.dll. This is demonstrated with the page 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' - when running the local IE this page looks correct, however when running the IE entry point the images on this page do not appear. The properties of a broken image show the address as 'res://ieframe.dll/noConnect.png', as shown below:

Using IE Entry Point.jpg

I have visited a number of blogs and forum posts but can't really see anything about this specific issue. One post did mention to copy the ieframe.dll on the capture machine into the %SystemSystem% folder before running build.bat - unfortunately this has the same result.

The only non default settings I am using in package.ini are

VirtualizeExternalOutOfProcessCOM=0

SandboxCOMObjects=0

ChildProcessEnvironmentExceptions=GROUPWISE.EXE;GWMAILTO.EXE;EXCHNG32.EXE;mlcfg32.exe

ChildProcessEnvironmentDefault=Virtual

However I have tried commenting these out with no effect.

Has anyone seen this issue? I would appreciate any help.

Thanks.

Getting around the file path length limit

$

I'm trying to thinapp SAS (yes, I know, it's not really my idea), and the postscan works fine, but writing it out to either a network share (Win 2008 R2) or the local disk (Win 7) isn't working because of the file path length limit.

What is weird is that sometimes it stops and it's using the //?/ modifier that should allow it the extra space to write to that location. Sometimes it isn't using that prefix.

I've looked through a lot of Windows documentation, but there doesn't seem to be a simple way of setting that network share to allow the longer paths.

I also wondered if there's a way to use a Linux server running Samba as a thinapp repository. I attempted to create a share this way, but View wouldn't add it as a repository. I'm assuming that's due to an authentication issue. There doesn't seem to be any way to configure a login to the share.

This is all using Thinapp 4.7 with View 5.

Thinapp 4.6 - Scanner is busy

Hi,

We have a weird problem.

When we use a Cannon DR-2510C scanner (32bit driver) on a windows 7 32 bit client from a virtual application everything works fine.

On a windows 7 64 bit client we receive the error 'scanner is busy operation cannot be completed - 4437'.

The scanner can be used on a windows 7 64 bit client from a local application.

The scanner doesn't have a 64bit driver.

Any ideas on how to make this work?

GIMP 2.8.0 colors menu not working, GIMP crashes

Hey guys,

seems there's an issue with the newly releases GIMP 2.8.

When I package GIMP, following these instructions (http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-19441), I'm able to start the TA package and mess around with it.

However If I try to open anything under the "Colors" menu, GIMP quits immediately.

There's no issue with the installed version, so I guess there's something wrong with the thinapp package.

Has anyone else observed this?

thanks a lot

Frank

Thinapped Office 2010 and wow64 enabled = no printing

$

Greetings-

I've thinapped Office 2010 Pro Plus SP1 (MSI package, using as base VM Windows 7 x32, latest Thinapp 4.7.1); I want to be integrated with the local Adobe Reader X, IE and Firefox on view virtual desktops (running Windows 7 x64).

So for example, say I just want pdf preview in Outlook -> before building I will add the needed "VirtualizeExternalOutOfProcessCOM.." for adobe reader. If deployed on Windows 7 x32 pdf preview works in Outlook, but not on Windows 7 x64.

So I uncommented wow64=0; this fixes the issue.

But introduced another one -> printing does not work anymore in Office, even to the XPS printer.

Similar, if I want deeper integration and instead I create an entry for local IE, FF, Adobe Reader to be able to use the option send as email from opened pdf docs, have Office plugins in browsers; the integration will work on Windows 7 x64 only if I uncomment wow64=0 (for pdf preview in Outlook, the rest works without this) but this will introduce the printing issue for everything that is virtualized (e.g. Office, local IE/FF ran through bubble, etc).

By printing does not work I mean that by clicking print nothing happens; it's like the print job does not get created (the small printing window appears and closes quickly).

Thanks!

Adrian

Hello,

Environment:

- ThinApp 4.7.1

- ThinApped on Windows XP 32bits

- Run on Windows 7 32bits

AIM:

- Build a ThinApp of Microsoft Access 2010

- ThinReg the ThinApp it to a VM which has Microsoft Office 2010 Standard already installed ! (I installed Office Std directly on the basic VM)

Issue:

When I launch a macro which create a file and send an Email i get some errors:

  • Windows:
    • There was a problem sending the command to the program.

  • Outlook:
    • Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request.
    • Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as default mail client.

  • Access:
    • Microsoft Access can't send this e-mail message.

  • And it seems to want to install "Microsoft Outlook MUI 2010 (English)"

I already try to add this to the ini file:

- VirtualizeExternalOutOfProcessCOM=0

- ChildProcessEnvironmentExceptions=WINWORD.EXE;EXCEL.EXE;POWERPNT.EXE;OUTLOOK.EXE;MOC.EXE;ONENOTE.EXE
- ChildProcessEnvironmentDefault=Virtual

and

RegistryIsolationMode=Merged

When i build the application, i keep the default settings (Full isolation / Sandbox %AppData%)

Has anybody an idea?

Sorry for my English...

ThinApp Adobe CS4 - Flex Service issue with ThinApp works with XenApp

$

Hi,

I am having issues ThinApping Adobe CS4. The issues are related with the FlexNet Licensing service. Once I run the Thinapp CS4 I get the following message "This product has encountered a problem which requires that you restart your computer before it can be launched"

I have seen that CS4 was giving the same issues to XenApp users. As reported in this link

http://www.dabcc.com/article.aspx?id=13051

There is a workaround in XenApp that seems to work.

http://www.dabcc.com/article.aspx?id=13073

I was wondering if someone has been able to get CS4 working with ThinApp 4.7 or knows a way to get this going?

Thank you.
