Thinapp Office 2010

$

Hello,

I read the fresh article from vmware blog for thinapp Microsoft Office 2010. I did all the steps like it said in the article but when I try to open a thinapped office application (for example WORD), I have this error message : 'Microsoft Office cannot verify the license for this application. A repair attempt failed or was cancelled by the user. The application will now shut down'.

I want to precise that when Thinapp copied the files, copy of one or two dlls failed but I think it's not important. I want also say that I used a retail installer of Micirosoft Office 2010 and before I did the postscan, I put my licence key (using the Control Panel and the "Modify" option for select "Enter a licence key") and after I started WORD and I activated my copy with the phone activation method (all was ok). After that I followed all the steps normally.

For information, I tested to start the thinapped Office 2010 on a Windows 7 machine (I don't know yet if it was a x86 or x64) when I had this error. But when I open the thinapped application on the computer I used to build the project (a Windows XP SP3 machine with Office 2010 installed), all is ok.

To finish, I didn't use a clean machine to make the capture. Office 2010 was installed before (but I don't think it's the cause of my problem).

Thank you in advance for your help !

Windows Server 2003 Admin Tools

Hi all,

With the removal of the admin tools from Windows 7, I have been attempting to thinapp the toolkit to make it available on our Windows 7 64bit machines.

I created a package with all the admin tooks, exchange tools, and resource kit, wrapped it into a .msi

On my WindowsXP 32 bit test machine, everything works fine with no errors. I see all the tabs, however, when I install/run it on my Windows 7 64bit desktop, its throws an application error.

I see this when I open ADUC.

mmc_error.PNG

I click ok, and ADUC opens, however, when I "right click" on a user, I receive the following(click the image if you don't see it., I see it when I click on it, but not in the post.):

exchangeerror.PNG

My question is:

Has anyone has an issue like this, or been success in deploying the admin tools, with the exchange toolkit and resource tools?

Am I overlooking something? Is this 1 of those very limited few applications that cannot be thinapp'd?

I appreciate your time, and input.

Thanks,

Chris

Adobe Reader X - Protected Mode issue

Has anyone been able to ThinApp Adobe Reader X and have Protected mode work? I have the ThinApp, but each time I open it I get the prompt asking how I want to proceed. Open one time with Protected mode disabled, Always open disabled, or Never open disabled (which closes the program).

I see on Adobe's site that it could be an issue with opening from a network share. I thought that when it it opened, the OS could not distiinguish where it was running from, and thought it was running locally as a native account. I would like to have this work, because our regular desktops will be deployed with this feature turned on (they are running a native install for now).

ieframe.dll issues when using local IE entry point with Office 2007

$

Hello,

I have captured Office Pro Plus 2007 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) using ThinApp 4.7 - the capture machine is XP SP3 with IE8, which is the lowest common demoniator of all my production machines.

During the capture process I elected to create an entry point for the locally installed Internet Explorer (to interact with Sharepoint). This entry point is largely working well except for the fact that it doesn't seem to load ieframe.dll. This is demonstrated with the page 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' - when running the local IE this page looks correct, however when running the IE entry point the images on this page do not appear. The properties of a broken image show the address as 'res://ieframe.dll/noConnect.png', as shown below:

Using IE Entry Point.jpg

I have visited a number of blogs and forum posts but can't really see anything about this specific issue. One post did mention to copy the ieframe.dll on the capture machine into the %SystemSystem% folder before running build.bat - unfortunately this has the same result.

The only non default settings I am using in package.ini are

VirtualizeExternalOutOfProcessCOM=0

SandboxCOMObjects=0

ChildProcessEnvironmentExceptions=GROUPWISE.EXE;GWMAILTO.EXE;EXCHNG32.EXE;mlcfg32.exe

ChildProcessEnvironmentDefault=Virtual

However I have tried commenting these out with no effect.

Has anyone seen this issue? I would appreciate any help.

Thanks.

Thinreg advanced login script

Hi

I had problems with standard thinapp login script, becouse it was not working with AD security group as I expected. I created little login script, that register package only when it wasn't register earlier, and it can unregister application without access to package file (after you remove user from group that have access to package file).

I was looking for something like this before, so maybe somone will be happy to use it and eventually make it better

Thinapped Office 2010 and wow64 enabled = no printing

$

Greetings-

I've thinapped Office 2010 Pro Plus SP1 (MSI package, using as base VM Windows 7 x32, latest Thinapp 4.7.1); I want to be integrated with the local Adobe Reader X, IE and Firefox on view virtual desktops (running Windows 7 x64).

So for example, say I just want pdf preview in Outlook -> before building I will add the needed "VirtualizeExternalOutOfProcessCOM.." for adobe reader. If deployed on Windows 7 x32 pdf preview works in Outlook, but not on Windows 7 x64.

So I uncommented wow64=0; this fixes the issue.

But introduced another one -> printing does not work anymore in Office, even to the XPS printer.

Similar, if I want deeper integration and instead I create an entry for local IE, FF, Adobe Reader to be able to use the option send as email from opened pdf docs, have Office plugins in browsers; the integration will work on Windows 7 x64 only if I uncomment wow64=0 (for pdf preview in Outlook, the rest works without this) but this will introduce the printing issue for everything that is virtualized (e.g. Office, local IE/FF ran through bubble, etc).

By printing does not work I mean that by clicking print nothing happens; it's like the print job does not get created (the small printing window appears and closes quickly).

Thanks!

Adrian

ThinApp "APPCRASH" issue. Our internal Lab product's ThinApp fails on Windows 7 and windows 2008R2.

We have our internal products and we are working on to make them as ThinApp. One of our product is compatible with Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 2008R2 (compatible with all windows x86 and x64 OS). We are using ThinApp original license (tied up with VMWare) to create ThinApps.

The error is following:

These are the following inputs I'm providing here:

1. ThinApp of this product works fine on Windows XP (ThinApp created using XP box) without any issues.

2. If we create ThinApp of this product on Windows 7 and on Windows 2008R2, the above error we get.

3. We have checked that the folder "C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Roaming\Thinstall\Application Folder" is cleared.

4. ThinApp is captured sucessfully, because the above config laboratory.exe is running in sand box but after building the exe which comes in bin folder is not running, so the problem is after build only.

5. We are using original thinapp license, no trial.

Any suggestion would be appreciated very much.

Thanking You,

Hi.

Process (ifrun60.exe) remains active (Taskmanager) after closing thinapp under windows7 (xp works)

Hi,

I have installed "oracle forms6 runtime + reports" as a Thinapp. The Thinapp works fine. I can also open the thinapp a second or third time.

But when I close the Programm the process "ifrun60.exe" remains active (Oracle Forms Runform)!!

If I try to start the programm again it waits until i kill the "old" process. After killing the process the thinapp application starts.

The Problem occurs on Windows7 32bit and 64bit.

Under Windows XP the thinapp works fine.

I tried to build the thinapp and run the thinapp in compatibility mode (Windows XP SP3) but the problem was the same.

With Process Explorer i only found out that some Threads are running. (some with Wait:UserRequest some with Wait:wrQueue)

When I install the "oracle forms6 runtime + reports" as a regular application under windows 7 it works fine.

No processes remain open when I close the application.

Are there parameter/switches for the thinapp.

Any suggestions, ideas?

Invalid Thinapp on View

Hello.

I'm trying to integrate ThinApp with VMware View.

I build the package with MSIStreaming=1, and put it on a NetApp share.

I'm able to launch it and works, but when I try to register the package on VMware View Admin, I get the error "Invalid".

I'm tried already to build a .dat instead .exe, both, change paths, etc.

All times I can see this error on debug.log from Connection Server:

Thinapp 5.0, removable disk and ghost drive letters

I'm using some simple applications packaged with Thinapp 5.0. When a thinapped V5 app is running and I eject a removable disk such as usb flash disk, the drive letter remain assigned.

When a removable disk is re-inserted, the next available letter will be assigned..

The only way to reclaimed the "ghost" driver letters is to close any thinapped application..

Any clues?

AutoCAD 2010 with ThinApp 4.0.4

I'm trying to thinapp AutoCAD 2010 Civil 3D with ThinApp 4.0.4.

During capture I get the following errors:

Could not copy file C:\WINDOWS\assembly\NativeImages_v2.0.50727_32\index45.dat -> E:\ACAD\%SystemRoot%\assembly\NativeImages_v2.0.50727_32\index45.dat

Could not copy file C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\ngenrootstorelock.dat -> E:\ACAD\%SystemRoot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\ngenrootstorelock.dat

Could not copy file C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\ngenservice_pri1_lock.dat -> E:\ACAD\%SystemRoot%\Microsoft.NET\ngenservice_pri1_lock.dat

I don't think this errors are a problem because this are locked temp files...

But when I launch AutoCAD I get the following errors:

1st launch thinapp package: This version of AutoCAD was not installed properly and some featurures may not run correctly. You should reinstall AutoCAD immediately to make sure all features are working properly. Do you wish to continue anyway? (This error comes with every launch)

1st launch thinapp package: No Profile name exists: <<C3D_Benelux>> Will create Profile with default settings. (This error is only during first launch so a sbmerge probably will fix this one)

3e launch: The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is niet available. Insert the 'AutoCAD civil 3D 2010 Language Pack - English' disk and click OK. (A sbmerge will also probably fix this one)

How to get rid of the error that AutoCAD isn't installed properly?

I think it has something to do with .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 but I can't get figure it out...

The way I captured AutoCAD is:

run a prescan

install AutoCAD

reboot

launch the program and click around

close the program

run a postscan

standard settings selected in thinapp

build the program

(on my package machine .NET Framework is NOT installed. The installer of AutoCAD installs .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 during capture! Also tried to capture AutoCAD 2010 with .NET Framework allready installed but no difference )

Hopefully somebody knows how to get rid of this error!

Office Communicator 2007 R2 (outloook integration error) on XP with Office 2010 SP1

$

So I have followed the document http://communities.vmware.com/thread/263969 to package Communicator 2007 R2. All running "tickety boo" except there is a little red blob on the task bar icon showing "Outook Integration Error". As expected the Outlook integration with status updates and the green/amber/red lights next to contacts is not shown...

Now, Microsoft says this is due to your primary SMTP not being the same in both Outlook and Communicator and that you can fix this error by adding the regkey:

KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator

create DWORD DisableEmailComparisonCheck=1

Despite the unlikelyhood of my primary SMTP address being different I have added this key to the project, rebuilt it but the error is still there.

I have then followed MS Method 2 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951644 of adding an adm file to the GPO and editing the "Disable email comparison check for Outlook PIM integration", still no dice.

The VM where I am trying to run this is a View 5 VM with XP SP3, Office 2010 SP1 is installed in the build. (Office 2010 is not thinapp'd)

I have also tested this on Windows 7 machine with Office 2010 installed, same results.

I have also tried changing the below section on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.TXT to "isolation_writecopy" instead of "isolation_full" - no difference.

As can be seen below, the DisableEmailComparisonCheck is also there and set to 1 which in theory should get rid of that error.

isolation_writecopy HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Communicator
  Value=
  REG_SZ~Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2#2300
  Value=InstallationDirectory
  REG_SZ~%ProgramFilesDir%\Microsoft Office Communicator\#2300

  Value=EvalCleanup
  REG_DWORD=#01#00#00#00
  Value=DisableEmailComparisonCheck
  REG_DWORD=#01#00#00#00

Is anyone else experiencing this or can point me in the right direction?

Much appreciated!

Office 2000 Displaying MSI-Repair box on Startup

$

This is going to be an embarrassingly easy question I fear. I'm thinapping Office 2000, which, due to the lack of specific instructions my googling ability has been able to bring up, must be quite straight-forward.

My most recent attempt followed the instructions for Office XP, which went into more detail, but every time I run word or excel it comes up with a repair-type box. It doesn't do this on the machine I thinapped on. I have not entered any user name or initials as per the instructions.

The only other things that might be affecting it are:

     I'm not using a volume license key, so it is asking for the app to be activated.

     It's being thinapped on a machine without internet access.

I'm putting on SP3, and installing every option available. I have unregistered the two dll's it talks about, and removed the options in the language bar.

Sometimes the Office programs hang on exit.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Best wishes,

Simon

Outlook 2010 faulting module ntdll.dll

$

Hi All,

I'm having a nightmare of a time with Outlook 2010 on one of our pools with Outlook 2010 crashing out with faulting module ntdll.dll error (I have attached the full fault log from event viewer). The back story is that I successfully thinapped Office 2010 5 months a go and it's been working perfectly on all of our pools. We have recently created a new pool with a new main image for one of our sister companies, the main image is the same O/S and config but is not a direct copy of the main image on our other pools. I started streaming Office 2010 to it and have had nothing but problems with it, Outlook will crash randomly at launch or shortly after. I have tried my best to pick out any differences between the new main image and the one Office 2010 is working fine on and all appears to be the same, same Group Policy, same updates and same services running etc. I understand it's not possible for it to be exactly the same unless we do a snapshot of the main image Office 2010 is currently working on but there are subtle differences like extra print drivers and some bespoke programs added to the new image which could possibly be causing conflict. I have tried my best to remove any differences, removed any additional problems etc and still Outlook crashes.

My next course of action is to use a snapshot of the main image Office is working fine on and use that as the main image for the new pool but before I do that I just wondered anyone ever encountered this issue with Outlook 2010 and how did they go about fixing it?

Regards,

Ross
