ThinApp: Capturing IBM iSeries Client Access (Terminal only)

Hi

We are trying to capture IBM iSeries Client Access to access AS400 systems (minimal, terminal emulation only), but are encountering problems.

A small summary:

  • When capturing the install the native application works fine on the system.

  • The captured & build version does not start

When starting the VMware ThinApp notify baloons are showing (near systemtray) and then the entire process is gone.

Now the fun part:

  • When excluding (aka: delete) the files in the following folders from the bubble:

%programfilesdir%\ibm\client access\emulator

%programfilesdir%\ibm\client access\shared

rebuilding and starting the application starts. Yep, the folders (& files) also exist on the native system, but the application does not need to be installed there... Just a local copy is enough.

It does not work by having the files both on the native system as well as in the bubble. It is possible to use (capture) a network install as in that case all files will be excluded from the capture, but all references are correct. For now we use a local install and a simple 'dummy' commandprompt bubble. We need to use a capture as there are depending modules that have to be loaded using applink. Otherwise complex referencing (setting paths to the correct apps) would have to be used. Now using applink the normal search paths can be used and all features off the apps are available.

I found some other threads on this on the Thinstall-forum and contacted some of the topic starters, but none had a working solution yet. There was a remark that IBM does a non-standard way of loading the DLL's, which is not (correctly) handled by ThinApp, yet.

Anyone hint to finding a solution to be able to provide a complete bubble for the terminal emulator would be appriciated.

Kind regards & thanks in advance,

Michael Baars
