I'm trying to use Thinapp to install a program called Checkmaint and I'm not having the best of luck. I'm very new to the virtual machine world so bare with me as I try to explain what I'm trying to do and what I'd like to have happen. Checkmaint uses an access 97 database and so does another program that we need to install on the same machine. Somehow they're not working well together so I'm trying to run Checkmaint via Thinapp. So far I've done a clean install of Windows XP SP2 and installed the Thinapp client. I then ran the capture procedure and as it instructed installed the program when it asked. From here I've tried a few different things after completing the capture.
1. I tried to uninstall the program and reload with the .msi that was created during the capture process. I attached a sample database which worked great until I closed the program down. When I tried to reopen Checkmaint again (the Thinapp created Checkmaint) I received the message: You can't open 'C:\Program Files\Checkmnt\Checkmnt.mde' for exclusive use because another user has the database open. CheckMaint will open the database for shared access. Then I have the option to press ok. I can make deletions now but I can't make changes or add new tasks when it's shared.
2. I left the original Checkmaint installed and also installed the .msi that was created during the capture. Then from here a did pretty much the same process and got the same results.
Neither of these worked and I'm kind of at a loss as to where I should go next. Some things I've noticed that I'm not will help or not. When installing Checkmaint, it creates the folder C:\Program Files\Checkmnt, and this is where all the database files get saved. When installing Checkmaint via Thinapp it creates the folder C:\Program Files\Checkmaint (VMware ThinApp) and in this folder there's the .exe to run Checkmaint, msaccess.exe, repair and compact.exe, and wrkgadm.exe.
I'd be happy to provide more information or try any suggestions that anyone might have. Thanks for your help and if I've been too vague or gave wrong info please let me know.
